Saying. Temperatures will rebound. A bit today. We are starting off colder. There are a lot more 30s today than yesterday. A patch or two of fog possible. Mostly out to the valley. Lots of 30s. Sunny today. A little warmer. Not much. Rain developing on sunday. That will take us into monday. The colder pattern. Good morning to marty in larksberg. It looks like a gorgeous day. 36 santa rosa. Fairfield in there in the 30s. Sonoma, 37. Its close for mill valley at 41. I did see a couple of 37s around novato as well. Its a cold morning. Sunny and nice. Just a tiny bit warmer today. Upper 60s to low 70s. Sal, do you want to start at the 80. Yes. Im reading its been cleared. Thats good. Actually did a good job getting it out of the way. A jackknifed truck. Now its gone and the lanes are open. The damage is done. The traffic will be slow as you drive across the bridge. The vehicles now jackknifed on the shoulder. The traffic is slow in vallejo. Slower than a normal friday. 101 out of burlingame. Look at all of the red on the san mateo bridge from 880 to the highrise. Thats going to be a slow commute. Lets go to the bay bridge where theres a back up of 25 to 30 minutes. 280 looks good. But northbound 101, there goes the train. All right. Thats for steve. All aboard. Back now to that breaking news in belmont we first brought you 30 minutes ago. Seniors this morning sent scrambling by a fire at the Senior Living facility. Christian captain at the scene. I know its early but do investigators know what started the fire, christian. Reporter yeah. Of course thats still under investigation. At this time they believe it may have been caused by a resident that moved through yesterday and placed boxes next to a space heater. The fire is out. Fortunately no one injured at this time. Were joined by captain patrick halerman. If we could talk about the fire and the response to get out here immediately. The concern of course being the residents and possible mobility issues that could have made this a dangerous situation. Yes. The facility is a Senior Living Apartment Building. About 400 residents. The fire came in at 4 00 a. M. This morning. There was a significant fire response. They sent six engines. Due to the highrise nature of the building and the nature of the residents. Everyone okay at this time . What are you hearing about any injuries, anybody evacuated . No injuries. Initially we assisted the Fire Department in evacuating the 35 residents in this building to the dining room. At this point it looks like we have three residents displaced. One resident where the apartment where the fire was and the two residents below him. And gasia was asking at the beginning of the story about the possible cause of this fire. As i understand it, youve tracked it down to one room. It may have been caused by boxes placed too close to a space heater. Yes. The resident had several unpacked cardboard boxes with belongings in them. He had do not to bed, leaving some of the boxes stacked right up against the wall heater. It ignited the cardboard boxes that started the fire. Thank you so much for offering details here. Again, the good news of course nobody injured. Were hearing some residents still displaced. Some residents still saying in the dining area for the leslie terrace Senior Living facility. Mostly out of precaution. Making sure that there is no smoke or water damage. It seems like the fire was under control. One more note that patrick told me earlier. All of the emergency systems in the building seem to have worked perfectly. The sprinkler in the unit where the boxes were too close to the heater went off and put the fire out relatively quickly and the fire alarm summoned the Fire Department here. In that aspect at least things worked out well. Good to know, christian. Thank you. Classes resume this morning at uc merced for the First Time Since wednesday mornings knife attack at the school. No longer restricted access to the campus except the Office Building and the building where the stabbings occurred. The attacker mohammed of santa clara left behind a twopage manifesto explaining why he went on a rampage. He wanted revenge after being kicked out of a study group at school. He goes on to say that hes going to Ambush Police Officers and try to get their gun. He further says during his manifesto that he has a couple students that he is upset with apparently because of the prior activity. Now, his handwritten manifesto included 24 precise steps on carrying out a killing spree. And his backpack was stuffed with handcuffs, duct tape and a hammer. Mohammed studied Computer Science at uc merced and planned on being an engineer. He went to Peterson Middle School and Wilcox High School in santa clara. A childhood friend said he was kind, intelligent and religious and prayed at a local mosque. I was honestly shocked that he could do this. I honestly didnt believe it at first. He was a good kid. Quiet. Not very different than many teenagers. Now, Santa Clara Unified School District person says that mohammed had a tight knit circle of friends and the School District did not know of any problems with him. A report is suggesting that a santa rosa teenager shot and killed may have known the risks of carrying the item. According to the paper the county questioned two of lopezs friends. They indicated that an orange safety tip on the barrel of the gun had broken off. He tried to fix the tip to make the gun look less authentic and even hid the toy gun under the clothing because friends mentioned how dangerous it was to openly carry a gun. Residents will be able to speak out whether theyre willing to pay more taxes to help the homeless. They will conduct a poll if residents would support a housing bond. This would raise more than 250 million for housing and other help for the homeless. Officials tell the paper theyre encouraged about the passing of prop a, the housing bond in San Francisco. Bay area nonprofits are gearing up to help those less fortunate as the holidays get closer. People are lining up in the cold for holiday food boxes. Jeanine is there to tell us about the give away and how viewers can help. Reporter weve been here since 4 00 this morning and there were people in lines huddled in blankets. You can see most have woken up. Some brought their babies and kids and slept here overnight. Theyre waiting for the doors to open so they can register to receive help for the holidays. Sacred heart is providing 4,000 holiday food boxes so these families can prepare nice meals for their families for thanksgiving and christmas. They are also giving away 18,000 toys and books for those that register. Some are single parent households. Many still have jobs but with rent increasing 11 in Santa Clara County from last year, they cant keep up with the bills. We spoke with a single mother of five who works at mcdonalds. She had her kids sleep in the car so she could be in line. The rents are really high right now. Its getting harder and harder and my kids are excited about the holidays coming around. And i thought that, you know, taking advantage of this is just something that im really grateful for. One guy around here at 4 30 said he needed to be in the beginning of the line because he earns about 1,000 a paycheck but his rent is 1,600. So theres very little left after that for holiday goods and he has children. Reporter Sacred Heart Community needs donations of turkeys and canned goods so they can assemble the food boxes. Monetary donations are also good so they can shop for the presents. We included a link on our website. So if you go to ktvu. Com and click on web links on the top of the home page, that will direct you to more information on how to help. These people will be waiting for the next hour or two hours because the doors dont open until 9 00 a. M. To register people. It goes on until 6 00 p. M. Again, theyre worried that the line is going to get cut off after they get through a certain number. So they want to make sure that they hold a spot. Gasia. Jeanine, you grew up in santa jose. Some people might be surprised to see that there is such great need in the city of san jose. Yeah. Theres a disparity of the haves and have notes. Especially with rents rising. The Tech Industry booming. Like i mentioned, some of these single parent households and people who are working, the wages are just not increasing enough even though the inflation is going up. As you can see with the camera panning around, theres still a lot of great need. They said theres about the same amount of people who are in line last year for this event are back here again as well as new people. All right. Jeanine. Thank you. And while the need is great in san jose as jeanine just showed us, a new survey shows that the residents are overall the richest in america. A new report this morning says the average income for people in san jose was more than 105,000 a year. Thats double the national average. Bloomberg credits that to the Tech Industry in Silicon Valley. San francisco also made the list coming in third place. Residents in San Francisco earn on average more than 80,000. The time is 7 12. Thank you for mentioning that off the top. We are going to go to that but were going to look at the other east bay commutes. You will see that traffic will be slow. Here on highway 24, just moderately heavy as you drive up to the tunnel. Between walnut creek and oakland, you will see things going on there. We have a look at the other commutes around the bay. Bay bridge toll plaza going to be slow traffic as you drive into this area. Westbound is about a 25minute delay. We can go to highway 4 which has been pretty slow in Contra Costa County as you drive up to this area. We can also talk about what gasia mentioned on 80. We had the jackknifed truck. Now, the good thing is that the traffic was bad. But now they got rid of the accident and it has improved dramatically. Still slow approaching the bridge. Part of the damage is already done but its Getting Better by the moment. Lets go to the south bay with the maps. 280 is slow. Not quite as bad as other days of the week.
