Thats awesome news. At least if you have to work this week, traffic is light. The rest of the east bay, ive been looking around for slow traffic. Even 580 is cleared up after earlier accident. Traffic recovered and were off to a nice start for this monday on this week between christmas and new years. Thank you, sal. Its been an especially cold morning and hundreds of homes in Discovery Bay have been without heat for hours after a major natural gas outage. Service started to be restored. Ktvus alex savidge is at one of the Warming Centers. Whats the latest . Reporter the good news is that pg e is beginning to restore service. Workers are turning the gas back on home by home. Obviously it will be a very slow process and it obviously has been a very cold night for people in this area. Meantime, this Warming Center here at Timber Point Elementary School remains open. Only a handful of people were here since yesterday, but theyre going oh, to keep the place going in case people need somewhere to go through the day today as the gas will be off for many folks throughout the day. People last night stayed at home, some of them and braved the cold temperatures the best they could. Temperatures dipping down into the low 30s in this area. A couple families built a fire in their driveway, gathered around just to stay warm. There were around 6,000 homes there still are 6,000 homes here in the Discovery Bay area that have no gas service, meaning no home heating systems, gas stoves out, water heaters are out as well. This is because of an issue with a nearby gas facility. Its a pressure issue that prompted the utility to shut off service altogether starting early sunday morning. The problem is peers to be re appears to be resolved. Some hoementz homes have had Service Restored. Of course its been a tough time for many folks. So cold. But finally my mom found a heater and so we had had to stay all in one room to keep warm. Pg e is blaming the cold weather for this service disruption, for the pressure issue. 200 workers will be going doortodoor starting very soon to continue turning the gas back on to many of the homes in this area. There was a safety warning going out. Theyre urging people not to try to turn gas meters back on themselves. That would be certainly dangerous. Wait until a representative comes to your home. Thats the advice from a pg e spokesperson. Theyll begin the process of restoring gas service, but theyll do it slowly. It will happen home by home. They have 6,000 homes that need to have the gas turned back on, so it will take much of the day. Pg e is not giving an exact estimate, but in all likelihood, it will be sometime tonight. So awful with how cold it is. Hopefully people are checking in on neighbors, elderly people and making sure they have blankets and such. People are out in the streets and building fires and gathering around, they took the chance to help neighbors and good to see. 7 07. Oakland fire investigators looking for the cause of a dead an morning fire at an apartment complex. Paul chambers says two people died in that fire. Paul, do they have any more answers now that its daylight . Reporter not yet, pam and dave. We moved a lot closer. You can see its four units right here, up stairs and downstairs. Investigators have not returned to the scene yet, but you can look for yourself. It appears to be a total loss. Once on scene, crews saw flames coming out of the top floor and heavy smoke throughout. Fire Officials Say four units were damaged and one had previous fire damage. It took about an hour to get things under control and they found two people deaden side. One of the lower dead inside one of the lower units. It was a man and a woman, but race and age is unknown. Fire Officials Say the cause is unclear. Well come out live once again. There is a lot of things, a lot of articles they removed from inside. Im sure investigators will be going throughout that area when fire investigators get here. The mayor in chicago is demanding changes in the Police Department after two people were shot and killed over the weekend, one by accident. They say 19yearold man was holding a baseball bat and was threatening his father when Police Officers shot and killed him. His neighbor, 55yearold betty jones, was accidentally hit by gunfire. She was also killed. The shootings come amid intense scrutiny of Chicago Police and mayor after the shooting death of a teenager last year by an officer. When is the mayor going to step up . When do we get help . We cant get no help with the police. Cpd has failed us over and over. Family members say he suffered from a mental illness. Yesterday chicago mayor said there should be changes in the way police are trained to handle calls that involve people with Mental Health problems.
