But we have a couple of days to fine tune. That the average is 70, 55. Plenty of low clouds, now it is making it out to parts of the east bay and helping the firefighters, cooler temperatures, higher humidity, the wind sometimes is not a good deal, but at least it is more out of the west instead of easterly or northerly. Leigh Martinez is live near the crash scene. Leigh what can you tell us . Reporter well, a motorcycle ride hear been culted out here afterrider has been killed out here after colliding with a big rig. They have closed off i80, down to just one lane, we have seen a few cars get off of the exit, just trying to make it over to the tennessee street exit and that is where a lot of the traffic has been cleared up and it is good from there. But the commute here is backed up to one lane, just trying to get through this accident. And i believe, like you had said before, that the investigations into accidents like this, a deadly accident, it is going the take a while. So we do not have any estimated time as to when the other lanes will be back open. We know that the coroner is on his way out. All right u thank you very much. And now aall right, thank you very much. And now a look at the traffic here, 80 westbound is slow through all of vallejo and the back up is still growing. Some people, have no doubt, her and the crash at the dunk people, will, no doubt, hear about the crash at the junction. And you can go for a out of your way, but you can do that to get around the problem here. Some people are using the city streets to get around the crash as well. So this is going to have a, you know, an effect on all of the commutes here and chpings as you may havechp, as you may have heard her say, will be there for time to come. And now a live picture here of people here going to the toll plaza and then the bridge. Remember years ago when it was a quote, quick bridge, that no one used. Those days are gone, as you can see, this is a pretty typical back up getting out of the richmond area, and it stays this way for a couple of miles before this point into the main point of richmond. Also, the bay bridge, that is backed up all the way out to the mace, 25 to 35 minute delay as the time is getting slower and slower. Now back to the desk. Fire officials are concerned about a possible arsonist here. Arson investigators say there have been a number of fires in just the past few months. The lathest fire was on tuesday. People who were burned out of their homes on tuesday by a fast moving fire say that caltran should have trimmed row of trees that helped the flames spread so fast. Now it quickly ignited the trees, which then spread the flames onto a row of near by homes. Four houses were destroyed. The trees that were a buffer between the highway and the homes are blamed for intensifying the fires. We apply, to you know, to get rid of them. We talked to the city, but never got it done. We asked for the wall. And you know, for the last, at least eight, ten years, that never happened. Caltrans said they could not find any record of a complaint about the trees going back to 2010. Now to video you just have to see after a driver in new jersey bumps into a deer on the road. Take a look at what happens seconds after she opens up the door. Watch the 200pound buck trying to get into the vehicle. A
Police Dash Cam captured it all, it happened just a couple of weeks ago, by the way. We will watch it again, you can see the buck run up and try to get in the car. The driver here says she was just stunned. I opened the door and you know, literally, he was right there and i just grabbed a hold of his antlers and put my foot in his chest to try to keep him from coming in more. And the woman has a few bruises. Unfortunately, the deer died from its injuries. The only reason sis now telling her story is because of the police video. She says other wise nobody would believe it. I have never seen lying that. All right, nowseen anything like that. And now all right, over to sal. Yes, a deadly crash, it happened about and hour and a half ago now on 80 westbound near redwood parkway and the street here, it is still blocking lanes. The
Fire Department is still on the southeastern. There ask oneon the scene. There is one lane here getting by. Traffic is backed up for a good long way, for miles and miles coming out to vallejo so, if this is your commute, maybe use 680, or use city streets, maybe using highway 29, to get around the crash pause they are going be here forker a while and they have set unconesset up cones, not flairs. And again, onenot flares, and again, one lane is getting by. Also, at the bay bridge toll blast is a a lot of chp cars coming to try to get to something that was reported as a possible case of road rage and a crash on 80 westbound. So they sent several units out, they are still trying to get to the incident here. We will let you know what happens. But the vehicles involved in that crash may be blocking one of the cash lanes here at the toll plaza, i hear chp talking about it, they are stuck in traffic, too, trying to get this to problem. And now let s move along and take a look at northbound 280, getting up to highway 17, it is slow getting up to the valley, all of the valley commutes are slow, as normal. , nothing out of the odderas normal. Nothing out of the ordinary. And now it is cool here, and the temperatures which went from one extreme to r going to the other, that was record highs, not anymore, the cost cleared up, they were hot. And now the temperatures are dropping. It always takes another day to get to some. And today they will cool off as well. Santa rosa to 73, and san jose, 74. The forecast models are usually better at forecasting warm ups than cool downs. Fairfield, 39
Miles Per Hour. Rio vista, 35
Miles Per Hour. Mount tam, 26, i think they are going to crank up here. A bigger fog bank, and it is a coral forecast. It is a cooler forecast. And rain late sunday into monday with snow up in the sierra. The bases have lifted. It is going to hellment firefighters a lot. Again, they are up around 3000 feet, the higher humidity, cooler temperatures, the wind is always a factor, but any time it is a northwest or a west, i am surer they will take it. I am sure they will take it. Low clouds and fog are with us probably for another day. The temperatures will cool down and there they will lose their support. The fog is there now but it is probably going to max itself out. 50s on the temperatures, low 60s, upper 50s, a little bit of a southeast breeze on the peninsula is usually holding the temperatures up. So upper 50s to 60s in lowes altos. But it is down about 15degrees from two days ago. And a chill there. 39 in truckee. 54 in monterey and they are socked in. Probably only 59 down there and you can see the fog. And here comes the system, it is coming in late friday into saturday and then the strong er part of the energy is coming in, that is going so the and i think it will give us our rain. Now again, it is not until late sunday or probably into monday. But a windy day into friday. Temperature drop will take us all the way into probably sunday, where we are in the upper 0s in some areaupper 60s in some areas that were near 100 a couple of days ago. Today, 60s, 70s. And the temperatures are on their way down. They are coming way down, especially santa clara valley, they are dropping big time there. 50s, 60s, cold and foggy for some that were very warm three days ago. And a cooler pattern into the weekend and then rain is on the way sunday night and monday. Oh, steve, you called it. It is now 7 51 a. M. Think about washing machines that explode. South Carolina is if jail after the police say that he killed his father, then went to an
Elementary School playground and shot more people. It happened yesterday in townville,
South Carolina, near the
Georgia State line. A teacher and two 6yearold students were shot at that school. But all three are expected to survive. A volunteer firefighter captured and pinned down the 14 yearold suspect until the police dot there. The teenager s father was later found dead at a home, two miles from the school. Well, wells fargo s ceo is testifying right now before the
House Finance committee in washington. Pam cook is back in the studio with more. He is on the heat seat. I have been listen to it in the news room. Wells fargo ceo is talking about when the bank found out about this, congress wanting the bank to be accountable to customers. We will have more on that in just a sedged is. We wantin just a second. We want to stalk about the opening bell this morning, it is a local company, they are based in alameda, they do intervention therapy, they are calling awareness to stroke prevention and with the company ringing the bell is a stroke survivor. Again, that is a local company rinking the bell. Right now, ringing the bell. Right now, the numbers, they are all down, the nasdaq, the s p 500 are down. And the wells fargo ceo is testifying. And lets listen in for a moment. On a side note, we passed a bill out of the committee that will ensure if you run into trouble again, the shareholders and the management would pay the consequences and the taxpayers would no to longer be on the hook of the third and final point, no, they are not here, but once again, the fie fan shall regulators were completely asleep at the wheel, as this massive fraud was happening. If you look at the cfpb, they have only one job in a framework, and they completely blew it. It took a report fresh the la times to under cover what was goingfrom thea reporter from the la times to under cover what was going on . And again, we are listen in live to the testimony going on right now, you can see, it is very confrontational, the
House Finance committee, they are asking the ceo of wells fargo when did he know about the accounts. You heard him mention the regulators what happened to the regulation of the banks, why wasnt this discovered sooner in is and how and when did the bank let the customers know. And the ceo said that extives learned ab the problems in 2013. But now sounds like the problems, the account set upstarted back in 2007. So there is a lot of investigation going on, of course, employees of the
San Francisco, they created some 2 million accounts under pressure for sales cotass. Quotas. This morning, we are hearing that california is not going invest in
Wells Fargo Securities are not work with wells fargo. The bank is also not permit today financepermitted to finance state bonds. We will continue to follow the hearing. In the nec hour, we arein the next hour, we are going hear some comments from the ceo, including answers to questions about selling a lot of wells fargo stock right before a lot of this came down. So there is a lot coming out right now. It is a very, very interesting investigation going on right now. And i think we will continue to hear more. All right, pam, thank you. It is now 7 58 a. M. And it is time now to check in with mike and gasia. Comfort food, youve had a good long run. But your time is over. Its time for something new, something simple. Grown right here in california with absolutely no antibiotics ever. Food were comfortable eating, making, serving. This is the new comfort food. And it starts with foster farms simply raised chicken. California grown with no antibiotics ever. Lets get comfortable with our food again. Because shevery year. Ow that it kills 40,000 californians. Because she doesnt understand what cancer is. Breaking news out of new jersey, at least three people reportedly killed, more than 100 injured. Some critical after a commuter train crashes into a rail station. And firefighters at home continue to make progress on the fire burning in the
Santa Cruz Mountains. This is ktvu mornings on 2. Good morning, welcome back. It is september 29th. I am mike. And i am gasia. And in new jersey, a commuter train crashed into a station in the morning rush hour. Officials have con officialed that more than 100 people are hurt. Our sister station in new york is reporting that three people have been killed but that has not been confirmed. Videos and photos coming from the scene are showing the damage. You can see part of the roof of the train station collapsed. We have multiple injuries right now, the terminal is shut down, no service on task or on new
Jersey Transit rail or light rail. Officials estimate there were about 250 people on the trail. This is important, witnesses are saying that the train did not slow down or stop. They say it just crashed into the station. There was no word yesterday on the cause of the crash. It is right there on the west bank of the hudson river, across from new york city. It is used by people going to manhattan from new jersey. And now new pictures and video we have taken from the scene of the crash, you can see a lot of people a lot of rescue workers at the scene, a lot of people, confusion, dismay, people are wondering what caused it. A fox station in new york is reporting that three people have died as a result of the crash. We are working to find more information for you. We know that dozens of ambulances are at the scene. Again, a lot of damage. The train station itself is obviously shut down. We will bring you more through the morning. Also, do not know if it is accident or a crime scene, here, the federal
Railroad Administration has sent investigators outs to the crash. And now here at home in the bay area, that is stretch of i7 there is a stretch of i80 that is closed this morning after a deadly motorcycle crash. And now we are live near the crash scene. Leigh is live with more. Reporter well, gasia, we have a slow down on both sides, eastbound and westbound lanes, following a fatal motorcycle accident. The person was killed, on the motorcycle, when he collided with the big rig right there. That is where they are closing down the three lanes to get into one lane to get by the accidents. And you can see the orange cones set up. And now the traffic is slow, we have seen a couple of vehicles try to get off of the redwood parkway exit and then trying to get to the tennessee street exit where the traffic is moving quicker. But you can also see here that the eastbound lanes are also slowing down approaching accident here. We do not know when this investigation will wrap up. So we do not know when that third lane will be reopened again. Back to you. Good morning, right now, leigh, i am still looking at what time they say they are going to be trying to open the lanes. Chp does not have a time yet. So this is going to be out there for a while. And now going to the maps to look at a way to maybe get around this. And again, as soon as we know when they have an estimate as to when the lanes will open, we will try to getlet you know. And now a look at westbound 80, you can use 680 heading down to the bridge. It does not look like it is really that bad coming in from, let s say fairfield. Obviously, it is going to take you out of the way. But one lane, as you saw in leigh s report is not enough for this morning commute volume. Is maybe consider that or going around and getting around the problem and getting on the freeway after that crash. I wan to take you to the bay bridge toll plaza, but there was a road rage reported to chp. One said that the other driver hit her in the face after some sorted of problem in traffic. They do have the two drivers there and they are speaking with them. But for afterwhile, it was a for but a while, it was a problem for drivers. And now back to the maps, i want to show you that the traffic is heavy in other parts of the bay area, 580 is busy. But 680 is slow, also driving on 880 southbound all the way down to fremont. 8 06 a. M. And now to steve with a look at the weather. All right, sal, thank you, sir. And now let s get right down to morgan hill, keith is there, hello, deer, see the deer . Yes, two bucks on that, right there. Thank you, keith, down in morgan hill. And temperatures are cooling off even there. The big fog and wind forecast, cooler forecast, in fact, way below as we are in the weekend and early next week, there is plenty of low clouds to go around. This is going to help the firefighters, maybe not up to 3000 feet yet, but higher humidity, cooler temperatures and more of an on shore breeze is bigger than the difference a couple of days ago. Low clouds and fog, mist, drizzle in there, and the fog is lifting and they are making a strong is your honor here. 25, gusts ofa strong surge here, 25 here, gusts at 30
Miles Per Hour. Low clouds and fog, and that is is the key to the cool down, the low isand that is the key to the cool down. And the low is coming out of alaska. We could have rain and mountain snow on monday. Back to mike and gasia. All right, steve, thank you. Now to the story in the santa crews mountains, the loma fire continues to grow, now. And now we are live at morgan hill with the update. Janine. Reporter mike, i just wanted to show you what it looks like out here, we are at the bottom of the hill, on the road where that the firefighters take to get up to the fire. And it is a combination of fog and smoke that you are seeing there. Overnight, we were told that you could actually see the orange glow from the flames. We are told a few minutes ago that their plan is to set fires right on the ridge. And that is to get rid of the brush. Now that is going to help stop the main fire from growing. Right now, it is 22 contained. And it is burning towards the mountain communities on the
Santa Clara County side. Evacuation orders are still in effect there but they have been lifted in
Santa Cruz County so people can return to their homes. There are still more than 300 homes that are threatened by the fire and crews are working to protect them. There is an engine at my house and all of the houses around there. They have cleaned the bush out and the crews came in overnight. They seem to be allowing the fire to burn down the ridge line. And that that actually just going to eliminate a future fire problem. Reporter so far, cal fire hassest mated thathas estimated that one home and six out buildings have been destroyed. But people say three or four people have lost their homes. And cal fire says that the fire is intense. They are watching the weather, they are concerned about the wind because later on, i guess it is forecasted that they are going have gusts from 35 to 40
Miles Per Hour and so they are worried about that. And there is upcoming rain that is going to hit the area. So while that may sound like it is good, water to help get rid of the fire, they are worried about the mud and the terrain, and getting crews up there and it is being dangerous. So they are really going to have to wait and see. Back to you. All right, janine, thank you for that update. And in
San Diego County last night, several hundred protestors in el cajon returned to the scene of a shooting of a black man. As you can see here, the angry crowd blocked traffic and there were several problems with the police in riot gear. The protesting started shortly after the
