Yesterday. Livermore minus 7. It is cooler. It is nice today. Upper 60s and low 70s. Getting busy sal, or busier. It has been busy for the last hour. Now were seeing the peak of the commute, starting off with the toll plaza if youre trying to get into San Francisco. A couple of minor crashes but the traffic is slow at the toll plaza. Nothing out of the ordinary. 20 to 25 minute delay if you make it on to the span. You see that traffic will be okay. You look at the south bay commute and the traffic is going to be slow. Almost every friday getting up to the west valley. There is still room when you get there. All of the traffic is essentially moving up to the west. Theyre all going here. Pretty soon this area will be crowded as well. Just give yourself extra time. Look at downtown san jose. You can see for yourself that 280 northbound is slow around that corner up to highway 17. At 7 01, the chp is investigating a violent crash that killed three women this morning in marin county. Allie rasmus is near sir francis boulevard where the accident happened. Reporter sir francis boulevard opened an hour ago. All three victims, the three women in the car were wearing their seat belts but the impact was too much and the women did not survive. Now, about 5 00 this morning, a tow truck hauled away the wreckage of that crash. The Toyota Corolla the three women had been in was almost unrecognizable. Just a tingle of metal as it was being pulled up to on the flatbed tow truck. The wreck happened around midnight about a mile west of the entrance of the park. The car hit a power pole before plowing into several trees. This is the only vehicle involved in the crash. But chp officers dont know the ages or identities of the victims yet. They appeared to be younger adults, possibly in their 20s. Drivers who frequent this area say this road dark and windy can be treacherous. It is dangerous, especially when the road is wet or when its drizzling. If you dont observe the speed limit, of course there is wildlife out here. You throw in distracted driver and alcohol, those are all factors. It is an ongoing investigation. We will be looking at all of that. Reporter chp doesnt know if speed was a factor or possibly wildlife on the road. There was quite a few deer that we saw on the roadway on the side of the roadway as we were driving up here. All of this still under investigation. Back to you, gasia. Thank you. Police have made an arrest in a deadly hit and run case. Police caught up with the suspect after a fivehour manhunt. She spotted the 27yearold edwards in a white pickup truck that matched the description of the vehicle in yesterdays hit and run. The incident apparently began with a dispute at the True World Foods warehouse in san leandro. Investigators say they believe edwards was trying to steal wooden pallets but confronted by a store worker. He then drove off in the white truck, intentionally hitting and killing the employee. Then they found it abandoned as they made the uturn. This man was walking away and tried to escape them. They were able to apprehend him without any incident. Edwards is being held on a charge of suspicion of market. There is a market for recycled pallets. The employee killed has not been identified yet. Officials at San Jose State University promise to make changes after the alleged rape of two female students. The schools president says she realizes now more needs to be done to help victims of Sexual Assault. Ktvus janine de la vega is at san jose telling us what they plan to do. Good morning. Reporter yeah. The president sent out a letter to students and faculty saying they need to do more to help the victims. The letter says it will make changes to the way that it responds to Sexual Assault allegations. Those changes include improving communications with victims and reexamining when to send out alerts following a Sexual Assault report. When we spoke to students late last week, many were upset that the campus never sent out a campus alert about the rapes that occurred at an off campus party. The school is just trying do their best with the situation. So i mean, theres not much they can do. It already happened. Theyre trying to make it better for the future. E. Reporter the suspect, a freshman water polo player, was barred from campus during the investigation. He wasnt arrested but the District Attorneys Office is reviewing his case. In that time, the student has since left to go back to serbia. They are in the midst of planning a series of campus conversations about Sexual Violence and harassment and how they plan on combating it. Dave. Thank you, janine de la vega. In the meantime uc berkeley is alerting students about two Sexual Assaults reported at off campus fraternities. Both happened over the weekend. In the first case a female student reported being assaulted at a party friday night. In the second case, another student told police she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance at a Party Saturday morning. No arrests have been made. Police arent saying whether the two assaults happened at the same fraternity. New this morning, demonstrators and protesters and Police Clashed at el cajon, california in the latest protest against a deadly officerinvolved shooting there three weeks ago. Police refused to reveal what sparked the overnight scuffle but some demonstrators say a taco shot near last months shooting wants officers to take down a memorial because it was disrupting the business. It was for the man killed last month. In the meantime, 14 protesters arrested in another demonstration are now suing the city, claiming their civil rights were violated. The president of the nations Largest Police association is apologizing for the mistreatment of people of color. There have been times when Law Enforcement officers because of the laws inenacted by federal, state and local governments have been the he face of oppression to far too many of our fellow citizens. A man in texas is now the first prison inmate to reject a clemsonence eoffer from president obama. 50yearold Arnold Ray Jones is serving time in prison for drug charges. He would have been released a few years early but required to enroll in a residential drug treatment program. Jones turned down the offer. The president has commuted the sentences of more than 700 people, most serving time for nonviolent drug crimes. Well, happening today, the San Jose City council is considering several new regulations on medical marijuana, just weeks before voters in california decide whether or not to legalize recreational marijuana. The issues include whether to allow medical marijuana dispensaries in the city to offer delivery service. Another proposal would allow registered dispensaries to grow at two locations. The San Jose Police have come out in favor of allowing the dispensaries to deliver marijuana to their clients. Its about a 25minute delay. Driving on the east shore freeway, you will see slow traffic getting to the bridge from the macarthur maze. It has taken quite a long time this morning. Almost up to 50 minutes there. We will explore that next traffic report. As you can see, traffic on 101 San Francisco doesnt look bad as you drive through the area. The traffic continues to move along relatively well now. We talked about the east shore freeway from hercules to richmond is slow. 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek. The rain we had over the weekend was great after years of drought. The santa clara mountains saw ten inches of rainfall during the recent storm. That helped to fill the reservoir in south santa clara county. Overall the reservoirs are at 40 capacity but a long way to go to make up for years of drought. We have seen years where you have a good start and then the rest of the winter peters out. Were hopeful that we continue to have a rainy year and have an average or above average year. The Water District also says conservation efforts from people in the community are also helping to make a difference when it comes to the drought. Now it looked like winter in the sera nevada yesterday. Causing dangerous driving conditions and chain requirements on the mountain passes. Elevations above 6,000 feet got up to a feet of snow. It is giving the resorts hope that the upcoming ski season will be a good one. Today a federal judge in San Francisco is due to hear from volkswagen owners fighting volkswagens 10 billion settlement in the emissions scandal. The judge gave preliminary approval to the deal back in july. Volkswagen would spend the 10 billion to buy back or fix 475,000 volkswagens and audis with 2 litter diesel engines. The owners would get 5,000 to 10,000 each. More than two dozen people have signed up to address the judge. Last year it was discovered that volkswagen had fitted many of the cars with Software Designed to fool an emissions test. Well, City Planners in San Francisco are stepping up their efforts to transport people underground. Now theyre reviewing plans for the citys socalled subway city project. It is exploring underground roots under San Francisco. Most people in the city would like to see a subway along gary boulevard and 19th avenue. Right now, theres no specific timetable for these proposed projects. An unmanned space craft carrying thousands of pounds of supplies is heading to the International Space station. Nasa launched the rocket from virginia. But a private aerospace and Defense Company built the rocket.
