The widow of the orlando nightclub shooting will appear in an oakland federal court. Noor salman was first interviewed 7 months ago to find out what she knew about the mass shooting. Allie rasmus is live in oakland with the criminal charges she will be facing. Allie. Reporter well, 9 30 this morning is when 30yearold noor salman will make an appearance in federal court in oakland. The charges she faces in connection with the shooting include obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting. The details about the charges we dont know. We dont know why she is facing those charges. Because the federal prosecutors have not yet released the charging documents in the case. The latest information that we have coming in just about 15 minutes ago is that salman is charged with the counts because federal prosecutors believe she misled police and the fbi about the orlando nightclub shooting. Now, salman is the widow of omar mateen, the man who killed 49 people and injured dozens others at the pulse nightclub back in june. The deadliest in u. S. History. Salman was interviewed after the shooting 7 months ago but now they believe they misled the fbi about the attack and that is why she is now facing criminal charges. She is originally from the bay area. She moved back to the bay area after the shooting. She was taken into custody by fbi agents in rodeo. The family said no comment when asked about the arrest. Neighbors on her block were surprised by all of the fbi activity. And many said they didnt even realize that salman had moved back home. She may have had, you know, some thoughts about this. And if she had just said something ahead of time, it may have saved lives. She may not know anything. I hope thats the case. Reporter salmans Attorney Says she is innocent. She said, quote, it is misguided and wrong to prosecute her. While salman may have been with her husband when he bought ammunition used in the attack, she didnt know what his intentions were. He physically abused his wife so she may is have been scared to come forward with any information that she had. They met on a dating site. There will be more information released on the information that salman is facing after her Court Appearance. When i spoke to an fbi agent in florida this morning, they said that is the timeline. After she makes her appearance here at 9 30, the federal prosecutors involved in the case may release more details why she is facing the charges she is. The expectation is once salman makes her Court Appearance in oakland, after this is done, she will be transferred to florida for future court proceedings. Back to you, gasia and dave. Showing up for Racial Justice is organizing it, saying they want to express outrage at the agenda of donald trump. This is part of a nationwide movement called 120 hours of direct action leading up to fridays president ial inauguration. Another protest that is part of the 120 hours of direct action took place last night outside of San Francisco city hall. Demonstrators put up tents and said they would stay there until the incompetent august race on friday and are pro protesting several issues, including police shootings. We checked a little while ago and the protesters had left. Were not sure what happened. The police tell us people are not allowed to stay in the park overnight but they havent confirmed whether or not the protesters were cold to leave. Not my president. Not my president. These are renderings of the 1 billion chase center that is slated to open in time for the 20192020 season. This will be an entirely privately financed sports and Entertainment Complex that will bring the warriors from across the bay from oakland to San Francisco. The 18,000 seat arena will host concerts and conventions and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city. Right now of course the warriors play in what is one of the loudest arenas in the nba. The they will be staying at oracle for the next two seasons. The question, whether the atmosphere that we have at oracle can be created at the new chase center. The folks designing the new arena are hoping to do that. Some east bay warriors fans say it wont be the same environment once the team moves to San Francisco. I spoke to a member of save oakland sports, a grass roots group. It is unfortunate. All of the jobs generated by last nights game, i know the warriors have given everybody an opportunity to keep their job. But it will be difficult to get over there. As it expands its stores. Today, General Motors also expected to announce 1 billion investment that will keep or create 1,000 jobs here in the u. S. The money will reportedly be invested in several factories in the u. S. Gm is not saying where the new jobs will be relocated. The investment comes weeks after donald trump attacked gm and other automakers for building cars in mexico and shipping them to the u. S. The chair says the company has no plans to change where it produces small cars because of trumps threats to heavily tax cars built outside of the u. S. Automakers have to plan two to four years in advance when deciding where to build cars. Hyundai will invest 3. 1 billion in the u. S. In the next five years. It could affect 2. 7 trillion dollars worth of wages in the u. S. Alone. Here are the sectors most affected by this. Not surprising, food service is at risk. About 70 of automation over time. They dont know if this will happen 20 years from now, 30 or 50 years from now. It could affect 11 million workers in the Food Service Industry alone. Alaffected, the manufacturing industry, affecting about 1. 4 million jobs. Also construction at risk of 49 of automation affecting about half a million jobs over time. Now, they say this includes anywhere from minimum wage workers to highpaying jobs. They also say if your job involves any random unpredictable type of problem solving, that youre safe because robots dont do well with random tasks. Pam. Okay. So we have to make sure that we problem solve in our jobs. Yeah. How far out do they think this will start happening . Already we see a lot of automation now. Right . Yeah. It depends on industries and what they decide to automate and when they decide to make that investment.
