To help Students Affected by the flood. The event starts in less than an hour well be talking more about that and also another cleanup effort getting under way in san jose, the Community Center will open its doors. And hundreds of volunteers expected to come out and help. Hopefully it will stay dry but we already saw rain drops on the ground this morning, it was actually a little surprised i knew we were going to get some spitting at us and the ground was wet this morning. Was it like a downfall though it was just a little split z. I was talking with one of our engineers and we had clear skies but the road was wet. Welcome to Northern California. Yes indeed sun and clouds out there passing showers in the forecast for today as well as tomorrow maybe even monday. Well there is a cool looking shot there, giving you a view of a little bit of a build up of cloud cover. What do you see . Covering the sun. Do you see the sun right in between . Two clouds making out. [laughter] it does look like they are kissing. I know it does look like a kissing picture. It sure does. Amazing. I kept it clean. So we will continue with the possibility of a little bit of build up out there as well as scattered showers in the forecast for today, we have 34 degrees in santa rosa its a cold start for our inland communities, 43 San Francisco, 40 oakland, 38 in livermore, and san jose checking in at 41 another reminder its still winter after all giving you a look at Storm Tracker 2 where again a little bit of the moisture still just dancing around and its going to linger for your weekend. I dont think its reason to cancel your plans but you may want to keep the umbrella handy just in case. Ill show you why in the futurecast model but just a look at where the center of the storm is this will continue to take a southerly path and its got wrap around moisture that continues to move especially along the coastline we could see a better chance for those scattered showers. Here we are picking up there is that rain off the coast, here we are at noon time notice a mix of sun and clouds mainly dry, but wow its very close, wouldnt take much for it to move in closer to the coast and bring a few scattered showers by the afternoon the dinner hour or so, we have a better chance take a look at that all along the coastline perhaps the Santa Cruz Mountains, and were mostly cloudy so theres that chance for rain into saturday afternoon and here is your saturday night. It pushes to the south. Sunday well see another round start to come our way and that will bring slight chance of scattered showers sunday as well as monday. Afternoon highs for today a lot of 50s, 54 San Francisco, 56 oakland, north bay 54 santa rosa, south bay 57 san jose. When i come back well look at the rest of the weekend and how much rainfall i expect well get over the next few days and when we will finally dry outcoming up. Well an Assistance Center opens to help san jose flood victims get back on their feet. Right now 765 homes along coyote creek remain under a mandatory Evacuation Order. It effects about 3060 people and at onetime 14,000 residents were ordered out of their homes earlier in the week todays local Assistance Center will include Government Agencies Safety Experts and insurance providers. Lets go now live to ktvu christian captain live in san jose with more about the center and the mornings neighborhood cleanup. Good morning christian. Reporter yeah, good morning. Were talking about the volunteers who are set to cleanup here in san jose today. That effort really under way right now. They are supposed to be here around 8 00 but you can see a lot of people here from the city of San Francisco, about 500 volunteers set to show up later this morning to lend a helping hand. You can see that the dump trucks are coming in bringing these dumpsters starting the heavy work of trying to clear the wet debris out of peoples homes and starting to get peoples lives back together. Theres also Police Officers here on scene as well, monitoring the scene. Here to interact with homeowners and also act as a deterrence from anybody who might try to take this as an opportunity in the neighborhood there as officers who are cruising around making sure that that does not happen. If you take a look out here you can see that people still packing up some of their belongings some folks here getting their stuff into their vehicles, trying to save and rescue what they can. Now, the support here in the city is already being set up through the san jose Flood Victims Relief Fund. They are going to be providing resources for people to get started again and try to get their lives back in order. The volunteer for flood cleanup is set for roosevelt Community Center here at 901 santa clara avenue or santa clara street. They are expecting people to show up between 8 00 and 3 today to lend a helping hand and try to help folks out and again, there is also a coyote creek Flood Disaster relief effort under way as well and that is set up at 8 00 this morning at the school so a lot of resources here for people to again start the lengthy process of cleaning up and tripping to get their lives back in order. One of the things that i was talking with the officer about here a little earlier this morning was he says this flood really has brought out some of the best in people and that people are really showing upturning out to help those in need, help their neighbors. Well show you one last thing here, you can see how big the effort really is to make sure folks have the resources they need. You can see items on the curb and this big dumpster being lowered into position right now so the cleanup effort still very much under way here in san jose this morning. Yeah, christian ive got to agree with you. I was at one of the evacuation sent turpitudes a couple of days ago and i was astounded because truck after truck, car after car people were coming in with diapers, with food, some people went out shopping at toys r us bringing in stuffed animals that kind of thing so the Greater South bay is really reached out to these flood victims in a big way. Absolutely. Out of something so tragic you see some of the best in people. Well get a big bang frank in just a moment so well send it back to you so you can actually hear us here because i think it gets pretty loud. Thanks so much for that update. The situation became life threatening when on Tuesday Morning fire crews had to rescue several hundred people while stranded by the floodwaters along coyote creek. A number of residents in the rock springs area say they had no idea they actually lived in a flood zone. Santa clara valley Water District says it notified city officials at 2 47 in the morning about the increase inflows the district warned it could lead to flooding as early as 6 00 a. M. The mayor says now is not the time for blame. I think theres a lot of temptation for various folks in different agencies to engage in bureaucratic finger pointing but it has to stop. This happened in our city, were responsible and im responsible as mayor and so im going to focus on doing everything we can to help these families get back up on their feet. Mayor says he will ask the city council to schedule a public hearing so city leaders can do a better job of passing on emergency information to the people who need to know. The mayor tweeted the relief fund for flood victims has raised more than a half a million dollars. The fund is being coordinated by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. That attack happened yesterday afternoon at a home on concordant ktvu talked to police at the scene. Reporter concord Police Officers got to the home at the back unit of 2140 freemont street about 4 40 in the afternoon. Police say the dog attacked the baby with his sevenyearold brother in the living room watching tv. Their mother says she had been with her children but left briefly to put laundry away in a back bedroom and thats when she heard her older son tell the dog to stop growling at the baby on the ground. Mom was in another room and when she heard the sevenyear old screaming, she runs in and sees whats happening and she immediately grabs her baby and basically saves his life because if she didnt take a quick approach, it would have been a different story. The mother called 911 and had the older son let the dog outside. Concord police say when they arrived and tried to move the boy from the house into an ambulance, the dog acted aggressively. Officers fired three shots, killing the dog and an 80pound German Shepherd named charlie. The woman says was 16 months old and had been the families pet since it was a puppy. Really surprising the mom. I mean the dog has never been aggressive at all not even in public not even at the dog parks from what shes telling us. New this morning President Trump took to twitter about what he says is a big reduction in the National Debt. He tweeted the media has not reported that the National Debt in my first month went down by 12 billion versus a 200 billion increase in president obamas first month. Now there actually have been multiple news reports on the National Debt specifically on a report from the non partisan Congressional Budget Office last month. Taking a look now at the u. S. Debt clock a lot of numbers there but the Budget Office analyzes the productions ahead and issued a report that says while the deficit is expected to decrease this fiscal year, it is projected to start growing in 2019, estimates have it increasing by more than 10 trillion over the next decade. And President Trump once again attacking the media claiming fake news is the enemy of the people. And i want you all to know that we are fighting the fake news. Its fake. A mother from hollister jumps into action after her teenage son goes into cardiac arrest on the soccer field. It happened during a High School Game when a ball hit her son in the chest. I talked to the teen and his mother about the ordeal and her quick thinking that saved her sons life. Surrounded by his family at stanford Childrens Hospital 16 year old Jose Agredano admits hes one lucky young man. The midfield r was struck in the chest by a ball during a soccer game at watsonville last week and jose immediately knew something wasnt quite right. It felt like i got the wind knocked out of me and i started walking thinking id walk it off and after two steps, i couldnt see really anything anymore. Joses mother gina is a doctor. She and her husband jose raced on to the field where their son laid unresponsive. There was a point where he just stopped breathing and that is when i was telling someone it was game on. Hes not going to die today. We arent going to die today. It was joses mom that realized her son was in the midst of a heart attack. She started doing cpr when the paramedics arrived she yelled out bring a defibrillator and ultimately thats what saved her sons life. Had it not been for the cpr and the defibrillator . Had it not been for the cpr and defibrillator he probably would have died. When he came to what was mom thinking . I dont know if i was thinking anything. I think i was very happy. This feels wonderful. The hugs are a little bit tighter these days and the prognosis is very good. One more small test and jose will get a 100 clean bill of health and a life lesson he wont soon forget. I was really happy to be alive and kind of upset because i wanted to play. [laughter] really you wanted to jump back in . Yeah. He is definitely on the mends. Well you know youre feeling better when you ask what kind of lesson did you learn about life and he says well i was happy to be alive when i woke up the. The whole ordeal took about 20 minutes but i wanted to get back into the game which by the way they called during half and said well just call it a tie and leave it at that but their team went undefeated this year. It was the last game of the year and he wanted to get back into the game. Whats amazing is you interview the doctor who says he would have died and then hes just standing there completely fine because thats the difference that the cpr and defibrillator can make. And the mother brings up a good point so did the doctorate stanford Childrens Hospital. Its so important, cpr right when an event is happening. Someone knows how to do it you need to jump in and take control and i asked the mother when did your mother turn into your doctor hat because she went out there and they thought maybe he had done something to his head and she said almost immediately because game on. You could see the situation in a way that us regular folks cant, so what a great story. Hes going to be fine with one more test and an ekg, should be back playing soccer. Hes going to wear protective chest thing though now. I think that would be wise. Okay, time now is 7 19, lets go over to rose mary for a check of the weather and everyone has been expecting a little bit of wet but is it going to be a lot of wet . Its going to be a little bit. Okay. Just a little bit. Passing showers we call them right because you will have a l
