KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 7am March 3, 2017

Cruz. No. Yes. Yes. Today though, i think upper 50s, low to mid60s. Some sun but increasing clouds throughout the day. Then turning much, much cooler going into monday. Tuesday should be a dry day. Monday could be lingering rain. The system will spread in high clouds and low clouds. We have fog out on highway 37. Thank you, greg, for that report. Also a little bit around and maybe where you are as well. Came right over the Golden Gate Bridge. Sal and i sat there and looked at it. 35 woodside. Stanford is 37. It is close for atherton as well. Getting close to rain up on the north coast. Knocking on the door there. Come on in. It is on its way. Colder air and rain is on its way for the weekend. Spring training is cloudy. There is a lot of cloudiness over arizona today. For us, we will focus our attention to the north. Ill have more on that in ten mens. 50s and 60s. Thank you, steve. Were continuing to follow this mornings top story of a dump truck hitting an overpass on 101. Leigh martinez has been at the scene for us this morning. Lets go to her now. Reporter its taken a while to get this fixed. It happened last night. They need a caltrans engineer to look at the integrity of this structure here. Were told that he is coming from sacramento and he is stuck in traffic. So if you take a look, that crack were told it is a 27 foot crack going across the embarcadero overpass. One lane on top of the embarcadero is shut down. Two lanes in the bottom here on highway 101 southbound that are also closed. It will probably stay closed until about noon. Just before 11 00 last night, a dump truck left a construction site nearby here on highway 101. But the driver never lowered his truck bed when he left. So he hit that embarcadero overpass with significant force. A dump truck driver left a construction site just north of our location. And was traveling southbound in the number 1 lane. With his dump truck elevated. And as he approached the embarcadero overcrossing, the dump truck collided with the overcrossing. It created a 27foot crack. Reporter now, the top of the dump truck was jammed into that overpass. This lifted his truck up, forcing the bed to come off of the truck hydraulics and eventually off of the truck. The driver was injured and taken to stanford hospital for treatment. So, again, we are waiting for a caltrans engineer to come out. The big fear is that there could be falling concrete, which is a hazard to drivers driving underneath the overpass. Because of the 27foot crack going across the top, they are worried about drivers going across embarcadero. We do see some flags up there right now that it is blocking off traffic to drivers going i believe on the westbound lanes across embarcadero. So theyre telling us this could probably take until about noon for these lanes to be reopened again. Leigh martinez reporting live on the peninsula for us. Thank you, leigh. Were going to start off with the bay bridge trafficment you can see traffic at the toll plaza will be busy this morning. Its going to be a like a normal commute where traffic is backed up for 15 to 20 minutes before you make it on to the bridge. Its not a bad commute but not lighter than usual. San mateo bridge doesnt look bad on westbound 92 as you head out to the highrise. It continues to look good. The traffic when you get to the peninsula is just moderate. If youre driving in contra costa county, traffic is slow. We had debris in the lanes. They have picked that up. Traffic is recovering in that area. At 7 05, lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. The switch docked with a console and can be removed and used as a mobile gaming device. The switch costs just about 300. That doesnt include the games or storage or other accessories with that. But nintendo stock up as well on that news. Doing well. It is kind of you know, they lag and then they came out with the wii and then they came out with this. People are lining up. So we heard. And saint Francis High School in Mountain View will not be doing bake sales any time soon. I wish i would have invested 15,000. It will be interesting to see how the money is put to use in the months and years. It is nice to hear schools getting access to that kind of stock. Very good. Thank you, pam. 8 47. We will help you get to work or school or wherever you need to go. Sal. Yeah. You know what, if youve been waiting around, this has paid off for us. Lets go right to the bay bridge toll plaza. On a friday reward had it empty out a little early, which is great. Traffic moving up to the toll plaza, barely any cars there. Thats what we like to see. Other commutes are beginning to empty out a little bit. 880 has been slow as you see because of earlier issues. It is still slow from san leandro but not too bad. If youre driving in san jose northbound 101 traffic doesnt look bad getting up to downtown san jose. Slow traffic in other parts of the south bay as you drive through. And 880 is also a little slow. Hayward to fremont. Now lets go to steve with todays weather. Thank you, sal. Nice weather on tap. Not as nice as yesterday. The fog has come back. A combination of coastal fog and tully fog. There it is right there. Take it full. There we go. Some of that is right down on the deck. There is still a little bit of an easterly breeze at the surface. The upper atmosphere is urn iting more westerly. That is bringing in higher clouds. Some going east to west. You can see the fog going right back over the sit i i went 59. Much cooler here with the temperatures. Yesterday was one for the books. Yes. Half moon bay, hey, steve, Beautiful Day in half moon bay. Yes. It was 66 yesterday in half moon bay. But we had warmer temps than that. Santa cruz, 72. Gilroy was 70. Santa rosa, 70. El cerrito hit 69. Antioch was right there. Not today. Maybe Santa Clara Valley at best. The combination of the fog. 40s for most. A few 30s and even a few 50s. Sfo at 51 degrees. The cloud cover is continuing to bring in rain on the north coast. Thats a sign of things to come for us later on. Not until saturday. You can see the signature of that system coming out of the gulf of alaska. That will swing in and give us a huge change on the weekend. If youre in phoenix or scottsdale, partly to mostly cloudy. Not expecting any rain. It is cloudy closer to tucson for spring training activities. Not getting rain out of it. For us, increasing clouds throughout the day. Cloud it out by tonight. Saturday morning, if you need to do something, it looks to be the best. By saturday around, the system will be getting closer. Saturday night into sunday morning looks to be the prime time for any rain and the colder temps come in. Not a lot with the system. Heavierment as to the north. Far less to the south. San jose, a quarter of an inch. Aninch plus up. It will be cold by sunday night and monday. There is the timeline for the best opportunity, the window, if you will, for the rain late saturday and early sunday and then decreasing. With the low snow level, dont be surprised that it could drop to 2500 feet by sunday. Some of the fog coming in. We will shave off a few degrees on the high temps. Still on the mild side but not the 72 that we had yesterday. Santa cruz more like 65. Colder with off and on rain on monday and clearing out on tuesday. Thank you, steve.
