Thats right. Good morning. Im dave clark. I know steve paulson. He is right over here. Hi, claudine. Hello. Good morning. It feels cold out there. A little bit today. I like it. I dont think it will last long. Uhoh. There is warm air aloft. Much bigger fog bank came in. Unanimous that it felt cooler than most. Full first day of summer. The solstice was last night. We have a bigger fog bank. Craig says 78 up in napa. Climbing. Going to be hot up here. Thats true. If youre in the higher elevations, i think i saw 78 at Altamont Pass and about 75 mount diablo. Higher elevations, warm air aloft. It wont take long to translate into a warm to hot pattern for some, at least away from the coast. By the coast, too much fog and a lot cooler on the low. So i think we will get the big 40 degree spread on the temps. Fog is retreating but made it into area thats didnt see fog for a while. Parts of lake county could easily pop up again, maybe northern and napa county, lake county. Delta breeze not there where it should be if youre looking for cooler weather. 50s on the temps or 60s. Everybody is cooler here this morning by a couple degrees to 7 degrees in livermore. Even napa airport at 5. Fairfield at 6 degrees. If it feels cooler this morning, it is. Get out and especially joy it while you can. 53 boulder creek. More 50s than 60s around campbell and cupertino and santa clara. That is a big difference from yesterday. There were a lot of 60s. Coast and bay, 60s, 70s, 80s. Inland, i wanted to take the temps down a bit but the days are too long to get a cooler pattern. If youre inland, sal, it will be hot. Coast and bay, not too bad. Thats good, steve. The weather is not having a major impact on the traffic. We have a couple of items you should know about. First of all if youre trying to leave Half Moon Bay and get over to interstate 280, there is a serious wreck on 92 at skyline. Headon collision blocking both directions of 92 near upper skyline. Traffic is now not getting through, getting out of Half Moon Bay or going towards it. I would avoid using highway 92 at highway getting out to Half Moon Bay or the other way around. This is going to take a while. Even if they cleared it now magically all of the lanes are going to take a while to unwind. Again, a crash locking both direction blocking both directions of skyline. Slow of traffic in both directions. If you live in Half Moon Bay, i would suggest perhaps using highway 1 flu pacifica getting out of the way that way unless you like to be stuck in slow traffic. Lets move to the other side of the bay through danville. Clearing up from an accident near sycamore. And 24 is slow through lafayette. 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek. Of course highway 4 not to forget about highway 4. We have a lot of slow traffic over the hill as you drive to concord this morning. Lets move along to the bay bridge toll plaza approach from the macarthur maze. Not bad. 28 minutes from the carquinez bridge. When you get to the bay bridge, that is backed up for 10 to 15 minutes before you make it on to the span. 7 04ment back to the desk. Thanks, sal. 7 04 on the clock. As steve said, it is cool in parts of the bay area. Expect it to be another hot day in the bay area. Pg e expecting that and expecting people to use a lot of their electricity as they crank back up the air conditioners. Yeah. There are other ways to keep cool as well. Leigh martinez is in dublin now. You have been busy all morning. A cooling center out there will open up in the next hour. Good morning, leigh. Reporter yes. Thats why we moved from livermore to dublin. Theyre going to open at 8 00. This is the first cooling center in the east bay that will be open this morning. If you swing around, you see the beautiful park that they have out here. We saw quite a few people exercising. One senior was out on her walker taking a walk around. She said she couldnt talk to us. She didnt have time. She had to get her workout in before it was too hot. She was here at 8 00 and it was too hot. We let her go and do her thing. The cal iso issued the flex alert again, hoping to avoid blackouts by asking people to conserve during the peak demand time between 2 00 and 9 00 p. M. Lever more parents yesterday tried to do just that. They left their hot houses and came to the livermore fountain park. But they say complying with recommendations is hard when you have two little ones to care for. And some residents had no power at all. By evening, pg e said about 12,000 customers lost electricity in the bay area. Ay area. We used a little bit of ac in one room that cooled a bunch of rooms and a fan. That was effective when we kept the ac at 78. Target lost power. Walmart lost power today. Reporter now, californias power grid has added 2,000 mega watts of solar power. But the grid is aging and can get overloaded on extremely hot days. When people use more electricity, many now running airconditioning units, they are pulling more power through the lines and seems it gets to the point where it cant get any more power through the transmission lines. Now, right now it is pretty cool out. But talking to some of the walkers that were out here this morning, they say at 8 00 it was already too hot for them. Starting at 8 00, this Community Center will be the first cooling center to open. So dont use your electricity, use theirs instead. Yeah. Thats a good idea. I know its funny that weve had enough days that the woman that you tried to talk to was like nope, not going to do it. No. Not going to do it. Thank you, leigh. Look what the heat is doing to bay area sidewalks. This happens when the concrete gets so hot that it expands and there is not enough room for it so it has to go somewhere and tilts upwards. It creates what looks like a pyramidion the street. Bad news for homeowners. California law says homeowners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks on your property. Yikes. You can track this heat wave as it intensifies by downloading ktvus weather app. We will have the latest on ktvu. Com and on our social media pages. Protesters disrupted a Berkeley City Council meeting last night about a controversial training program. Alex savidge is live at Berkeley City Hall with more on the push to end berkeleys participation in urban shield. It sounds like even with the vote is up in the air this morning. Reporter yeah. Were still trying to sort out exactly what happened with this vote, whether it will stand. We will get into that in a moment here. But weve heard a lot about urban shield over the last couple of years. It has drawn criticism. Urban shield is the annual event that happens every year in the bay area where various Police Departments come together to train for highrisk situations, things like Mass Shootings or terror attacks. Critics believe this leads to a militarized police force and dont want the Berkeley PoliceDepartment Taking part. And this was the noisy scene during the City Council Last Night that stretched late into the night. Demonstrators took to the stage, holding a stop urban shield banner. This video here was shot by daily cal reporter Edward Eugene booth. Several protesters were detained as the auditorium at Long Fellow Middle School was cleared out. Thats where the meeting was taking place because of its size. The disruption came as the council was voting on whether Berkeley Police should continue taking part in urban shield. Police say it is critical training. But critics say it enables the Police Department to use militarystyle tactics that target minority communities. We are berkeley and we set a tone and we set a trend. And we should not be held hostage to urban shield. We need to train. I mean, the reality is active shooter incidents or acts of terror can happen anyplace. Reporter according to reports, the council in the end did vote in favor of the Berkeley Police department continuing to take part in urban shield for one more year. Although a Council Member did tell ktvu theyre not certain that the vote was actually official because of the disruption at last nights meeting. I put in calls and reached out to some city officials this morning. Also i reached out to the Berkeley Police department for more information on any arrests. Were still waiting to hear back on exactly the number of people that may have been detained or arrested at the meeting and whether the vote last night will in fact stand. And one hour from now, antiurban shield protesters will be staging a demonstration here outside of city hall in berkeley. Thats going to get underway at 8 00 this morning. Okay.
