Into plus, police in san jose want to know where this guy is. Details on the violence crime he is accused of committing. And still yawning after Daylight Saving time . An expert will give us advice on ways to get more sleep. Oh, yeah, bay bridge. [ music playing ]. Love this song. Love this song. This is like vintage 84 van halen. Panama. Welcome to the 9. We have that friday going on. I am Sal Castaneda along with Gasia Mikaelian and mike mibach. Good morning, everybody. Happy friday. I dont think i have ever heard it before. Panama . And its your favorite. You just crank that dial up in the car, right . All right. Rolling the windows down. Crank it up. Top story. Bart passengers dealing with another morning of delays and shuttle buss. Engineers trying to figure out what caused a power surge that damaged more than 50 cars. Ktvu fox 2s Christian Crafton has been on this story all morning long. He has word that it could go on a lot longer. Reporter i felt like i had deja vu. Think about what the drivers, the commuters are going through having to take these bus bridges. We are going to give you a look at the inside of one of these bus bridges. This one an ac transit bus taking people between the pittsburg station and the North Concord bus station. The bus actually empty waiting for people coming out. People going in towards the San Francisco area. So at this point in time not a whole lot of people on this bus heading out to pittsburg bay point. You can bet this bus will be full later on. As you said before, the possibility that this knew could last for months. Earlier we spoke with people on the bus bridge earlier as we took the ride from pittsburg bay point to the North Concord station. That ride took about 20 minutes. While some passengers are take the whole thing in stride, others are starting to express frustration, learning that the fix might take a long time. As long as 22 weeks. Its very disheartening to think that we are going to have to deal with this for five and a half months. I am going to have to make other rangments because my commute is averaging about two and a half hours each way. And thats not sustainable with my family. Reporter yeah. So passengers like that lady we spoke with certainly hoping that bart can expedite the process. You see you get off the bus, you head over to the bart station over here, the whole electrical problem affecting about 50 cars on wednesday. Bart now saying that they have to order the parts to repair this problem, this ongoing electrical problem. And you heard it, guys. That fix could as long as five and a half months way. When you spoke to the engineer, he seemed to say it could take 22 weeks, but they could expedite the process. And he seemed somewhat his demeanor was like, yeah, it could take that long, but we are going to do the best possible. What sense do you get on how long it will actually take . Reporter you know, thats the Million Dollar question. I dont have a sense on exactly how long its going to take. Bart saying it could take 22 weeks, but thats on the outside. Right. And its going to take time to install those parts and get those parts in place. My guess is bart will expedite the process as fast as they possibly can. Who knows . Maybe they will single track trains around the area where there is a problem. I get the feeling that barts going to do everything they can to work out a solution and get as many people back on the trains as quickly as possible. You can see that the bus bridge works fairly well, but a lot of the folks saying it adds to their morning commute. It makes it longer for them to come and go. You know, one of the things that we talked about with some of the passengers this morning was the idea that the big issue is when they come home. These passengers getting often the bus bridge right now. When any come home, another big logjam happens. We talked with people who say when they go in San Francisco, their strategy is to hop on a bus going outbound. In other words, going out towards daly city, towards the airport, because they say it makes more sense to go outbound before they catch another train coming back so they can actually get room on the bart trains because they are so crowded because there are so few bart trains out there. A lot of people doing the best they can to work out a situation as best as they can. The bigger picture, i mean, is in the end of the life for the bart system that they built decades ago and that this is kind of the beginning of maybe more to come . Has bart touched on that, that this may be the beginning . More things breaking down . Reporter well, i dont know if you had a chance to read that whoever is in charge of barts twitter feed last night was unbelievably candid and said that bart was its an older system. A lot of the parts of it are at the end of their useful life. So whoever was on that twitter feed last night remarkably candid and said something exactly like that, mike, that a lot of the parts of the system arent meant to handle this many passengers. They say the system wasnt built to handle as many passengers as they are carrieing and the parts are used. 22 weeks is ridiculous. I know you got to order the parts. But it seems like i dont know. Reporter when i heard 22 weeks, we double, triple checked. When you add it up, you are looking at five and a half months. Thats a long time for people to have to wait and accommodate. At the end of summer. Thanks. We will get to the tweets you were just talking about. Bart again very, very candid in response to passengers. Bart was using the hashtag hisisourreality. Honest responses to frustrated tweets. One said bart was built to transport far fewer people and much of our system has reached the end of its useful life. For the next several hours, bart directly responded to dozens of other tweets by acknowledging the problems with the system and explaining the history of those problems. I know historically, sal, whenever there is a problem with bart there is a lingering drop in ridership until the giants win the world series and we have to take bart into the city. Its our only choice. And i have seen the corresponding increase in traffic along highway 4 and on 680. Youre seeing it. People wont put up with it after a certain point and they will get into their cars. Then if this lasts long, the commute is going to be heavier. Thats just all there is to it. I asked one of the spokesmen yesterday about the new fleet they are getting. They spend millions and millions of dollars to get these cars. Is this going to happen on the rail that the same spot . That would be awful. They didnt have an answer. I dont know. Frustrating. Stay with ktvu for continuing coverage of the bart situation. Do you rely on bart . Are you over bart . How could bart make the situation better for you . Are you dissatisfied . Its our twitter question to you today. Are you making do . Do you have any other options . Let us know on twitter. You are you overusing bart because of whats happening here or is it your only option and you have to choose it. Hashtag ktvuthe9. Now to the east bay. According to uc berkeley dean of the Goldman School of public policy, henry brady. He has been winning 48 of the delegates. He has got to win 55 of the delegates in the future. Thats a push upwards.
