The giants cathedral looking absolutely spectacular for this home opener against the l. A. Dodgers. Its a hard to imagine, going into the 17th season for the giants in the ballpark. It looks like it did in 2000. I was here on opening day in 2000. I was sitting up there. Thats where my seat is. And i always get excited to be here on opening day. Now i am on the field working the game. Afterwards i will be like the fans sitting up there. The bunting is up. Its wonderful to be here on open enrollment day. They started off with on the right foot with the 21 road trip, beating the brewers. I remember being in boulder, colorado, watching the stadium to be built. Going to candlestick and finally as soon as it opened, sal, memories started. Now i can share those memories with my wife and children as they come to the ballpark. Looking upstairs, i remember game one of the world series in 2010, as a fan, being there as we beat the rangers. Being in the bleachers in 2012 for that nlcs game seven in the rain. Just a couple of examples of the maam i can that magic this place has through the season. I will wear my world series 2002 stuff. For a while i was like, i dont want to think about that. But 2010 made it all better. So i can wear any of the gear now because its all good. Giants fans are here. I have seen giants fans out early. They are outside already. I crossed the golden gate. I went to lombard street bay, embarcadero, made my way to pier 30. I saw the gear out. People doing a half day. Thats what i would do. Yeah. And make my way to the park. On the giants website, Brandon Crawford has written an excuse note that you can just spill out and give to your boss. It said Something Like baseball should be a holiday here. I am out. I am sick. Should be a holiday. Speaking of players, we saw pagan walk in five minutes ago. The first giant to make it to the ballpark. At least from what we saw from the outfield. He is now in the clubhouse. Its always special in San Francisco because people forget that the First Major League baseball game played on the west coast was between these exact two teams, the giants and dodgers, at seal stadium in 1958. In the sense of major league, validating the west coast. If you think about the fact that Major League Baseball stopped at the Mississippi River prior to that time. So it was an incredible moment for sports on the west coast. And then i think you also reflect when your first opening day was. Sal and i were talking about that. My first one as a spectator, i was in college. Youre right. You say i am not going to school today. In college you just go. But it was the giants against the Atlanta Braves in 1975 at candlestick park. Dusty baker was playing left field for the Atlanta Braves back then. That was my first opening day that i reflect on all the way back in 1975. Even if you do have to go to school, i remember being outside. My history teacher said if you are coming to school, you can wear the colors. Its okay. There is no homework on that particular day. Thats growing up in the city. It is kind of a holiday, even if you do have to go to work or school. One of the most memorable Opening Day National anthems was in 1993 when the grateful dead sang the National Anthem. And i was there and i didnt think it would become such an iconic moment. I was thinking, this is really cool. They were wearing the giants jacket. Yeah, black and orange jacket. Years later its still one of the coolest moments off the field, that is, so to speak of opening day history when the grateful dead sang the National Anthem in 1993. You know what i did on that day . I wasnt at the game but i had the cassette player and i pushed play and record at the same time and i recorded that on the radio. So i had that version of the anthem for quite some time. I have another one for you guys. You know, obviously, huey lewis and the news and the news has done it a couple of times. Frank sinatra sang i remember he threw out the pitch. We are dodging seagulls. Its like celebrating the championship with big hat, no cattle. Waiting for the rally that never game today. We have seen plenty of these and seen some where the giants win. They will debate whether to keep local deputies from notifying federal immigration agents when undocumented immigrants are about to get out of jail. This would create an exception for those convicted of a violent felony. Police in antioch are investigating a deadly crash where a 26yearold man from richmond was killed this morning. It happened just before 3 a. M. On hillcrest avenue and laurel drive. Police believe he was speeding when his car hit the median and then crashed into a tree. That investigation continues. And the chp want your help. They want to find a hitandrun driver involved in a deadly crash in redwood city yesterday. They are on highway 101 just south of woodside road. A van clipped a silver scion xb. That car overturned several times. The driver suffered major injuries and later died. Witnesses say the van never stopped. Caltrans, they say another large section of the old bay bridge will be taken down starting tomorrow. This work will be similar to the removal of a large truss back in february. That piece was 504 feet long. They will use cranes to lower the large section to barges and move it over to the port of oakland where it will be taken apart. The work is scheduled for friday and saturday and its expected to take 12 to 14 hours on each of those days.
