New this Morning Police trying to find out if drugs or alcohol are to blame for a violent car crash in antioch last night. It happened on a street near highway 4 offramp just about 10 00. Antioch mayor wade harper says he was leaving a City Council Meeting when he saw another member of the Council Standing on the side of the road. He said she had been hit by a black honda suv and the other driver was trapped. The mayor is actually a former police officer, and he says he tried to keep the honda driver calm until help could arrive. Started talking to him. Making sure he is coherent. Talk to him. Telling him he is going to be okay. Payments and fire crews were able to get the paramedics and fire crews were able to get the driver out. He is in serious condition. The councilwoman was not seriously hurt. Two members of a Road Construction crew were working in a truck also hit by the suv. Coworkers tell us this morning that they are both okay okay. There is a warning to parents of antioch students after a girl says she was robbed at gunpoint while walking to school yesterday. Remembering what you admire about that person and make sure that you have conversations about it away from tax time. Away from paying the bills because usually there is a spender and a saver. We need a saver to pay the bills and a spender to not break down on the freeway because of the old cars. My wife makes fun of me she all online. She is like what are you doing with the pen and the checkbook thing . Yeah, mike, what are you doing . [ laughter ] i want to check the pennies. Thats always been my concern before we met. So, having money dates is a great way to separate it from the stress. We are constantly evolving that conversation. Like asking them, the first thing, whats most important to you about your money . What do you want do with it . Is it travel . Education for the kids . Retirement . Usually we differ in that. Honoring what they need and you need and get your needs met. Getting your stuff organized for taxes happens all year long. Yes. So what can you do [ laughter ] for the people who are so you dont have to do it at the last minute, what are some tips to put aside the receipts . Where do i put them so they dont get lost . Taking little microsteps and actions are the best way to move forward. And so, you know, if the warriors can win 73 games, we can do Something Different about our money. Not tonight. 7 30 to 10 30. One of the easiest thing is set up automatic payments. Is an automatic minimum payment so you dont have a late fee . You can do that in 20 minutes. Setting microgoals. There is someone in a relationship that is more organized than the other. Let them take that. Usually we organize by health and organize by credit card. Organize by month. Thats much more efficient. You can throw every receipt in january through december if you have an expand files. Thats a great way to be efficient and it all goes this there. Then you can sort it later. We dont normally need to go back. Its amazing how many people dont forgive themselves for million miss money mishaps in the past. I am 50 years old and i dont think i am a saver. Do you see that a lot . Yeah, we have to forgive ourselves around our money mistakes. The way do it is know that that mistake helped us learned Something Different. When we wrack up debt on credit cards, you now its 20 more expensive. So honoring the mistakes as lessons learned. We develop a mindset of getting better. We are not stuck as victim. Every mistake helps us learn. The biggest mistake is not being organized this year . Is it not conversing . My wife and i can talk about politics and religion and sex without any issues. But you bring up money, right . Nobody or even with friend and other family members. It seems thats the dinner table conversation. Money, someone walks away. We can talk about our sex lives, but not our money. Right. We want to look successful. But most of us have shame. So many people have credit card debt. You would be surprised. Most people what percentage of americans . At least 80 . Wow. At least have credit card and dont pay it off monthly. There is the percent that does and are very financially responsibility. So having that mindset of hey, this is something we should talk about, we should get it out in the open. I am not ashamed of this. Being ashamed limits and shuts down the conversation. Usually, with our partners we want to look good. We want to impress them. If we can be accepting and say, hey, we can learn from this and move on and forgive those mistakes. I think a lot of us, speaking from my own generation, to this day i dont know how much money my dad makes or ever made at the dinner table and it feels weird to tell my children, mommy goes to work to pay the mortgage and for the food youre eating and clothes youre wearing because i am trying to break down that whole, like i guess were okay. Dovetailing on what she said, how do we teach our children more she is doing something good, it sound like. How do we teach our children to be responsible . Its having a mindset of selfsufficiency. A lot of us are in that victim scarcity model. Tell them that we have all we need. You have all the clothes you need. Most of the people have a roof over their head and they have a couple meals a day. And creating a sufficiency belief in our children like we have always had it that. We dont have the flashy cars and vacations but we have so much more. When they are making money choices, do you want the expensive robot you can camp or sports camp . This is a difference. If we dont spend that money, this is the trip we could take. Involving them in the decisions earlier, because they understand that. They want the double scoop ice cream rather than the single scoop. They do like the double scoop. Yeah, well that double scoop is six dollars and the single making the money choices. What would you do the dips in money. What would you do with that instead . Police say the man who had a knife confronted a Homeless Outreach team and when the police got there they first fired beanbags at him, but they say when he charged at the police they shot and killed him.
