KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 9am July 19, 2017

Yeah. Many of the people at the game were hoping that husband steph would be there. Knows home on daddy duty. Dont call it babysitting as i have heard men refer to it. I call it babysitting. I cant say that. If youre at home with your children, you dont call that babysitting. No. That is being a dad. Thank you. Which i enjoy very much. Did you choose sweet child of mine because of the babysitting thing . Yes, i did. Look at that. Kenting the dots. Nicely done. That song is older than our intern bridget by the way. I remember seeing the video on mtv when we snuck mtv when my parents werent looking. We will talk more about Ayesha Currys big night out. We have new information to bring you about a missing boater. The search for the man just resumed only a few minutes ago. We learned that the man is actually the owner of the Oyster Company. Alex savidge is in the bay where the man hasnt been seen since yesterday afternoon. Day afternoon. Reporter yeah. And a desperate search continuing here at the bay. I can tell you that several employees of the Oyster Company where we are this morning, they are out on their boats right now, out on the water, trying to find the owner of this company who has been missing since yesterday afternoon. After going out on his boat here. The company boat. And he never returned. We want to put up a picture here if he can of the man who authorities are searching for this morning. It is 70yearold todd frand who has owned the company for ten years now. He hasnt been seen since yesterday when he went out on his motor boat. He was with a crew but the crew may have been dropped off before he went missing. The first signs of trouble came in when boaters from another Oyster Company in the area, the hog island Oyster Company spotted frands boat. It was empty and going in circles in the middle of the bay. They called up for help. A major search was launched. The Marin County Sheriffs Office was involved and so was the coast guard and highway patrol. They were searching from the area and in the water with boats and jet skis. I talked minutes ago with one of the employees here at the Oyster Company about what it is that may have gone wrong. He was driving the boat from the boat ramp, unloaded the guys, the crew. They got out and he was driving the boat south to marshall where they berth the boat. And we dont know where tess. Now, i was told by the employee that frand is not wearing a life jacket. Did not have a life jacket on the motor boats. The motor boats go quite fast. We dont know what went wrong. I was told by the employee that i spoke with that he is a strong swimmer. And so even though he may have been in the water since sometime late in the afternoon yesterday, they are holding out hope that he can be found alive. And, again, authorities with the Marin County Sheriffs Office have their search and rescue team out. We expect they are putting boats into the water here at this hour to continue this search. And also as we just mentioned, employees from the tomalis bay Oyster Company here are out in their Company Boats trying to find the 70yearold who again has not been seen since yesterday afternoon. Day afternoon. All right. Thank you, alex, for the update. Animal control officers in the San Francisco area are on the outlook after a coyote snatched a dog right off a front porch. A couple took their dogs out for a bathroom break. But before they could get backib side the house, the coyote jumped up and grabbed bella off of the porch and took off. The body was found in an alley by the home. There have been more coyote sightings and attacks than in recent years. And neighbors are trying to take extra precautions but some worry that nothing would stop a coyote. It is very concerning. We we always try to make sure that we keep our doggone leash dog on leash. But it happens so fast, it probably wouldnt matter what you do. It is very worrisome. Some animal experts warn pet owners to keep cats and dogs inside. If approached by a coyote, make loud noises and wave your arms. Ktvus tom was there when people asked bart police why theyre not doing more to crack down on crime. Reporter crimes on bart this year for the same period as last year are up. Assaults, robberies and rapes up 41 . Auto thefts, petty thefts, burglaries and arson up 14 . Most notably, two recent mass gang robberies of patrons at the coliseum station. Bart has high quality Surveillance Video of the crimes but will not release it to the public in fear of tainting prosecutions. Randy and his family were victimmed of one of those robberies involving 47 robbers. He says the video should be released. I think it is one of many step thats bart needs to take to protect the passenger snooze there were several times that the groups misdeeds on and off the train should have been responded to by bart police. Police who already were readily familiar with some of the perpetrators. The individual whos assault individuals who assaulted us and robbed us were multiple repeat offenders. The police knew who they were there. Reporter tony rivera says he would release the video. My policy generally would be to err on the side of transparency, sharing information with the public. Reporter in the bigger picture, bart has 40 unfilled officer spots. Thats is more than one in every five budgeted positions vacant. To cure that, the bart chief rojas wants to offer bonuses to those who ultimately are sworn in. That is something that is common in Law Enforcement. And they do vary from 5,000 up to as high as 30,000. Were looking at doing a program that would be somewhere between 10,000 to 15,000. Reporter former chief rivera has faith in the if you bart chief. Im sure he knows what to do. I would just hope that the bart board of directors gives him the support that he needs to get the job done. Reporter ktvu fox 2 news. Now to the wildfire that continues to rage out of control southwest of Yosemite National park. We got new information about this developing story in the past hour. It is called the detwiler fire. It doubled in size from 25,000 to nearly 46,000 acres. Almost doubled. It started in the town of mariposa. Containment only went from 5 to 7 . There are 2200 firefighters battling this fire. Some of them right here from the bay area. They will be facing more grueling conditions today, including strong winds, low humidity and temperatures in the low 90s. When you add in the fact that were in the foothills, when you add in slopes and grades and the temperatures were dealing with, the humiditiesed were dealing with humidities that were dealing with, it is a challenge. Governor brown declared a state of emergency for mariposa county. The fire has suspended power in the national park. Homeowners in rural areas have been paying a fee for the past five years to offset the rising cost of fighting wildfires. Many have been fighting the fee for years, saying theyre being unfairly taxed twice. One man is actually suing cal fire saying he wants the money to be returned to homeowners. We pay taxes to our local fire district. And, you know, sooner or later there has to be a place where you draw the line. The tax is redundant. It was passed illegally. It could come back. It is always used as a card in negotiation. The governor doesnt give anything away. Removing the fees would save homeowners 100 a year. The weather has been stuck in a pattern. It has been mostly the same, i would say, for the last week or so. Steve, is a warmup coming . A little bit today. But nothing extraordinary. Today warmer and then the next day cooler. We will have more information on the detwiler fire. It will be warm to hot conditions out there. Tough conditions. Currently 72. Looking for a high around 92, 94. Relative humidity 44 . Later it will drop from 14 to 20 . The breeze is northerly. The fire creates its own wind and it has burned 46,000 acres. We will have updates on that throughout the day. Also want to focus on southern california. Look what is coming out of temecula and fallbrook. South of san clemente, oceanside down to san diego and del mar. That is moisture stream in from arizona. Even las vegas. If you have travel plans there, what the well, there you go. It looks like it will stay down there and not come up here. Not yet. San mateo, santa cruz coast, the bulk of it is down there. 60s, 70s and 80s. Some inland areas warm up. So we had the widespread fog yesterday. There is just not enough of a delta breeze. A little cooldown for some yesterday. A big cooldown for others will give way to warmer temps today. Near average temperatures today. Every day just kind of subtle changes. A little warmer one day and cooler the next. No extreme here. That is good. Quiet is good. Yes, it is. Yes. Thank you, steve. Youre welcome. Travel experts say it is not too late to go on a summer trip without breaking the bank. August 21st and 22nd are called magic dates. August 21st is a great day for international travel. Thats when the average ticket price for trips across the atlantic will drop. And august 22nd is the best date for Domestic Travel depending on the city. You can generally save 11 to 20 on tickets than if you were traveling two weeks ago. And that makes absolute sense. August 21st, what is august 21st . First day of school. There you go. Parents cant go after that. But if the children are young enough, you could wait a few days. You cant miss the first day of school. If youre five or six. Im horrified at the suggestion. High school, i get it. Oh, my gosh. My children will be there on the first day of school. Dont worry, gasia. Good. First day is one of the most important days of the year. Once again we disagree. Mike said his kids will be there the first day of school. Very good. An investigation by 2 investigates is on going after an Early Morning fire in walnut creek forces families out of their homes. The timing may be suspicious. Up next, the restrictions on packaging being he proposed to make marijuana less ainteresting tiff to teenagers and children. Children less appealing to teenagers and children. Seed to the oat to the o, to the bowl to the spo n bowl to the spoon, to the mouth of the boy in the room room for that goodness. Inside him to bloom good goes around. And around. And around seed to the oat to the o, on the first day of school schoolin your sister on why. And just how to be cool cool if she hangs, you can show her whats go d good goes around. And around. And around good goes around and around o. J. Simpsons parole hearing is tomorrow. Bruce and another man were waiting in a Las Vegas Hotel room when simpson and two armed men burst through the door and demanded the return of Sports Memorabilia. He was sentenced to nine to 33 years for the crime. If the parole board approves the petition tomorrow, the former San Francisco High School Football player could walk out of prison as soon as october 1st. He has done nine years on a robbery charge. He will be 70 or he is 70 years old now. Probably a low risk to rio fend or at least the low risk to commit eye violent crime. And so i suspect that they will probably grant him parole. If simpsons parole is denied, it could take another three years for him to appear before the board begin. He believe thats simpson has served enough time in prison and he should be paroled. Ktvus ken wayne will be attending the parole hearing tomorrow in carson city. We will bring you coverage on mornings on 2. Plus special live coverage of the parole hearing itself. That begins at 10 00 in the morning. All of this pushes to the question of the day, which is do you think that o. J. Simpson should be paroled tomorrow . Looking at the results. 34 say yes. 66 of you say no. One viewer says most people will vote no. Not because of this crime but for the double homicide they believe he committed in 1994. Kenny says sure why not. I need a new reality show to watch. Definitely not. He should have been convicted for killing his wife. System has failed. We will bring in Michael Cordoza in a couple minutes. Thanks for using our ktvu. The first office of cannabis has been approved. The sale of marijuana becomes legal statewide on january 1st. The new office will take over responsibility for permitting and inspection of marijuana businesses within the city limits. What this does is set up a onestop shop. So we have a centralized place in order to regulate this, make sure that we do this safely and appropriately. The new office of cannabis will have three employees and a budget in the first year of 700,000. Supervisor shehe tells us the cost of the office is covered by fees assessed on people selling marijuana or who are growing it for the industry. State lawmakers in sacramento are also preparing for Legal Marijuana sales across our state. They gathered yesterday for a marijuana Safety Conference at the state capital. Theyre considering a number of restrictions involving Legal Marijuana, including one that would prevent retailers from marketing it to children. It would prohibit marketing this colorful designs that could be ainteresting tiff to children and teenagers attractive to children and teenagers. The voters passed it. There is a lot more work to do than the proposition. And thats really the big thing, ensure public safety. Just last month, Governor Brown approved a number of new laws for miles an hour. It includes a state law that marijuana must be carried in a sealed unopened container or locked in the drunk similar to alcohol. There may be a solution for those living in the millennial tower building. The chronicle is reporting an Engineering Company claims it has found a way to save the 58 story luxury highrise. Purportedly construction crews would have to drive shafts into the ground at a cost of 150 million. It has sunk 17inches and is still sinking. Coming up, two fires in less than a year. An exclusive tour of one of the construction sites set fire in the east bay. We invited a Beauty Blogger to test her favorite soap. Against dove. So we are using this test paper. That represents skin. The paper is dissolving. And dove is not dissolving. At all with < moisturizing cream dove is gentler on your skin. First you start with this then add this and this face wait, we can do better yeah thats the one and fresh brewed lipton iced tea ah that can wait oh but not you buddy. Bring everyone together with the refreshing taste of lipton iced tea. Fire investigators havent determined if four construction fires in oakland and emryville are connected. But the developers of the Housing Units believe they are. The Developers Think the culprits knew exactly what they were doing. 2 investigates Candice Nguyen toured the site that has been burned twice in the past year. He has hired security as he rebuilds again. Reporter from the outside in. There is literally a guard at every corner now. Yeah. Developer rick holiday walks 2 investigates through his emryville construction site. Theyre able to probably avoid a lot of the cameras. And they obviously got around the guards. Reporter the property was torched by not one but two arsons. Two of the four Major Construction fires to ravage the east bay in the last year, sparking fears of an arsonist. We are in the middle of the construction site right now. The fire actually started over this big wall on the residential side. Embers flew over to the Commercial Area here. As you can see, the frame is the only thing left stabbing into shortly before the second fire in may, Surveillance Video captured a dark figure scaling scaffolding. Hooded and masked the person as atf describes as a person of interest walks off camera. These people were smart. It was a good job. Somebody is good at what they wanted to do. It is obvious that somebody is well educated. Do you think that person acted alone. It doesnt matter what i think. Why . Why doesnt it matter . It matter whats atf knows. They are fire investigators. What kind of builders did have you working on the project . Did you have unions who work with you. We work with Union Contractors and nonUnion Contractors. The unions were actually the first to offer to help us solve the case. Reporter holiday says he has built 15,000 Housing Units. With this commercial residential project, there were no prior controversies. In fact in his decades of building, this was his first insurance claim. His first fire. This is the main entry. An art gallery. A wall her. Reporter he says his vision is still strong. He will build housing, a bike shop for kids and a possible market. Food, beer and bike. Right. Were embracing the community. Community had embraced the project. How much do you worry about another fire. I dont spend a lot of time on it to be honest. I think the people need to be caught. There will probably be more fires between now and when i rebuild this. Candice joins us in the studio now. Atf in regards to the investigation, where are they at in that particular construction site and are they looking at a connection between what we saw recently in oakland and the ones in emryville. Four fires including this last one near lake merritt and the one we just featured, they have not said anything about them being connected. This fire this latest fire near lake merritt, they have not determined if it was arson. We have been calling daily. The people who are against, i imagine they are looking at those groups, following up on leads. Do you know if that is happening. The atf is looking at all leads. What is interesting about this, in our last story, we interviewed activists. I dont condone arson because any destruction of Housing Housing by fires like this promote it because there is less housing, more poverty. And more expensive housing. So actually antigentrification, people are not for this either. Who is going t
