Temperatures are warmer this morning especially inland. Fairfield this up by 10, livermore by eight, and south butasouth bay by five. As we get into the afternoon today temperatures will not change a whole lot. We will cool down slightly. Some of you may not even notice. Avenue a view of the cloud cover in place we are right up against the coastline. We have plenty of blue sky for the rest of us. The onshore breeze is with us. We do begin to cool down as early as tomorrow. I will have a look at the extended forecast coming up. The san diego marathon is alreadyaSan Francisco marathon is already underway. And that will have an impact on the traffic flow over the Golden Gate Bridge. You can actually see on the bottom parts of the screen there are some cars crossing the bridge. And now Allie Rasmussen was there bright and early. She is there on the bridge with more on the big shutdown. It looks a little windy to. Reporter yes. It is wendy and foggy and cold. The runners are taking part of the San Francisco marathon. They have run about 13 miles already to get to this point. It is cold for those of us that are just out here watching. You can see a lot of fog socked in here. You cant see them beyond the fog at this point. It is so thick. The northbound laneamac there are no vehicles. It is shut down to vehicle traffic. They shut it down until 9 00 p. M. That is so the runners, all 15,000 of them that are participating, can make their way across the bridge safely. We did have a chance to talk to some of the runners and they say it is really exhilarating even though it is foggy and cold. They said it is great knowing that they dont have to worry about some of the safety concerns like traffic or cars being on the road with them. We have Donna Collins here to talk to us about runner safety. Usually there are just plastic cones on the roadways. Thatathere have been recent Traffic Events where drivers have run their vehicles into crowds of people. So this is a preventative measure. So what future events are impacted by this . Where you wont have vehicles on the bridge at the same time. This is a onetime decision. This is a policy decision that needs to be made by the board of directors. There will be a Board Meeting sometime in the next to determine whether or not we should allow runners on the roadway during special events like this. Or if we should not have events like this on the bridge any longer. Typically on a sunday morning between 6 am and 9 am there is a lot of work put into letting drivers know in advance. But there is a larger policy question to be considered. We should mention that the sidewalk is still open. Reporter there is one lane of traffic in the far left lane. It is open just for emergency vehicles and public transit. The buses can still go across. We have seen some emergency vehicles going back and forth on standby across the area. They are making this accommodation because of the 15,000 marathoners taking part in this run. You can see a lot of people are going over already and some are already on their way back. They expect that the bridge will reopen around 9 am. Most of these marathon runners will be done by then it is expected. We see quite a few of those runners with no shirts on. I imagine halfway through the marathon that feels good. But how cold is it . Reporter it is foggy and cold. My hair is soaking wet like i just got out of the shower. [ laughter ]. The people running , once they get going, once you are at the midway point, you are appreciating the cool air its too bad dont get the beautiful view with all of the fog. Thank you allie. There are a number of crews, that continue to work on the detweiler fire near yosemite. Those flames are now 40 contained. They are making progress. It has burned 75,000 acres. And has burned numerous homes and many structures are still threatened. Some people have been allowed to return home. Crews say it could take until early next month to have that fire completely under control. New this morning, a disturbing discovery outside a walmart in san antonio, texas. A number of others are in critical condition. The victims likely died from the heat. Temperatures reach more than 100 degrees and the trailer did not have any air conditioning. The survivors were taken to the hospital. There were 30 people inside the tractortrailer and some were children. We need to figure out who they are, what sex they are, we for sure no there were two schoolaged children that were transported. It was discovered that there were people in the truck when someone walked up to the truck to ask for water. The department of Homeland Security is helping with the investigation. There will be sweeping new sanctions on russia regarding meddling in the president ial election. This puts the president in an unusual predicament. He can either sign the legislation imposing sanctions. He says he would like to close with congress. That bill should reach his desk next week. There was a Sexual Assault near a university of california campus. A woman said she was groped when she was walking down channing way when a womanaa man grabbed her and fondled her breasts. Police say he was wearing a leopard skin jacket. Uc Berkeley Police found the man and they arrested him but it turns out he was not the person responsible. There was a pilot that narrowly missed landing on a taxiway earlier this month. He was not using the proper estimates at the time. Preliminary findings by the faa says that the pilot did not activate his instrument landing system. That would have helped guide the plane to the appropriate runway. By some estimates the air canada jet came within 51 feet of another jet on the taxiway before pulling up and landing on another runway. Families gathered demanding changes that they say will save lives. We know it can be expensive to live here in the bay area. But do salaries match up . There are also those runners there. Allie is freezing and it is a bit damp. Some of those runners are probably appreciating that cold weather though. Here is a look at the satellite and radar. If you can imagine the circulation around this high and the sinking air associated with it, it is easier to see how it pushes all of the fog down to the ground and makes it really thick. We do have a shallow marine layer in place as a result. We have a really soupy morning. We even have drizzle as you can see. It is 57 degrees in San Francisco, mid 60s in livermore and 66 in brentwood. We are mostly clear this morning away from the coast. Temperatures are warmer than we were yesterday afternoon by the afternoon. Temperatures are going to come down just slightly then where we were at this time yesterday. We are headed in the right direction. 89 in sausalito, just upper 70s in oakland, 90s fort danville, and 99 is the high excited for antioch and brentwood. Santa cruz yesterday had 74 and today it will get to 69. Along the peninsula 88 in woodside and upper 60s expected in San Francisco. 64 in pacifica and 64 expected at Half Moon Bay. Here is a look at the extended forecast. As we get into monday and tuesday a temperatures will drop them we expect to rebound by wednesday. There is that separation anxiety that i had on my end but the city welcomed me with open arms. That made it a whole lot easier to separate. But everybody has been so welcoming. It is way beyond what my wife and i expected. Even before i got here i flew up when the mayor made the announcement. There was a month between then and the my swearing in. They are giving back packs to children throughout San Mateo County that need them. Numerous writers took part in the backpack run. But they did not just donate packed packs to the children. The bar and bistro in clifton has a special restriction who have children with them. When a family sits down the waiter or waitress explains that the adults can only have one alcoholic drink. The idea is to keep parents from driving their Children Home after drinking. There are a few parents that object and say they are being discriminated against. Some come back really upset. We let them know that this is something that we can do in our hearts and we feel it is a great policy. Do you think about the law . The childrenathe parents have a responsibility to protect their children. Bars can legally restrict the number of beverages they serve to anyone. San francisco at 57, oakland at 61, livermore at 64 and san jose at 64. Now lets take a look at the cloud cover overhead. Right along halfmoon bait there is dense fog reported. We are stocked in pretty good there. If you are going to be on the coast it will be pretty foggy. So that cool pacific air is not going away. In any event we do have a low forming off the coastline here. You can see the counter clockwise motion. A bit of southerly flow pushing into the bay area. That will help to cool us down slightly for today. Our inland areas are still going to be quite hot. We will be saving off just a few degrees from where we were yesterday. 90 night in antioch, 83 in hayward and upper 70s in oakland. Still a very warm day overall. The temperatures will continue to follow as we get back to work on monday. We will take a look at the cool down and how long it will last. Families are demanding change at a dangerous intersection along the san mateo coast. Three young people have died here in the last 13 years. The families are requesting that caltrans build a barrier along devils slide. It is a beautiful stretch, devils slide is a dangerous as it is beautiful. Three families have lost love ones here. They say their deaths might have been presented if there was something between the road and the cliffs edge. This is a pretty dangerous area. Reporter it was 7 12 am and this young man was heading to his bridgeato his job. As soon as he got through the bridge he disappeared. The family believes he died accidental
