There were international initial reports that someone went in to a home on baker street with a gun. One officer said one person was detained. Its not clear if that person is the one who had the gun. Well of course be following the ongoing situation in San Francisco and have much more coming up on the 10 00 news. For the fourth time in just over 24 hours, Bay Area Police have used deadly force on a suspect. The latest happening early this morning. The first officerinvolved shooting occurred at 12 30 yesterday morning in San Francisco with a Daly City Police officer shooting the driver of a stolen car. Later that day in san jose, police opened fire on a man fleeing from officers at about 3 30 in the afternoon. Then in union city, police there killed the suspect at about 10 00 last night. A few hours later, in neighboring hayward, another suspect was shot and killed by police early this morning. Ktvus allie rasmus is live. He started out heading this direction toward us. The car drove through this island here. If you take a look at the pavement you can see some of the scrape marks where the hub cap scraped the concrete. It jumped the curve and crashed in to the post on the corner. Reporter a tow truck hauled an older model honda away from the crash scene. Arthur packman is in jail. The officer responded to a threat. What could have happened differently is the driver could have complied. Reporter at 3 30 this morning Hayward Police say an officer tried to pull over packman for speeding but he didnt stop. We dont know why other than he didnt want to stay and talk to the officer i guess. Reporter police followed the honda to watkins and fletcher lane, a dead end. The car was coming fast. You just hear the tires turningk and then it stopped. Reporter the officer happened to have a civilian doing a ridealong with him. Police say the officer opened fire when the honda accelerated, hitting the car. Packman was hit by the gunfire but his passenger was. I heard pop pop, and then twice more. Reporter with his injured friend still in the passenger seat, packman sped through the intersection of foothill in d street. He crashed, fled on foot, and was caught and arrested. Police say packmans last known address is in oakley. He went to the hospital briefly for some minor injuries but he is now in hayward jai booked on assault with a Deadly Weapon on an officer. Police have not identified the passenger yet. At this point they dont know if the officer died from gunshot wounds, the impact of the crash, or a combination of both. More now on the shooting in union city where Police Say Two of their officers killed an armed suspect. The incident happened last night about 10 00. When officers tried to stop a vehicle on dyer street near meteor way. According to police the driver tried to escape on foot but pulled out a handgun and allegedly opened fire. The suspect died later at a hospital. Well have more details on the story at 5 30. In San Jose Police continue to investigate an officer involved shooting. They killed the suspect after a high speed chase. The 20minute pursuit began yesterday around noon. During the chase the suspect rammed three Police Officers and aimed a gun at officers. Youre looking at part of the chase. When he blew out a tire and had to leave the vehicle, officers say he appeared to be hiding a gun and thats when they opened fire. Neighbors heard the chase. Im glad they caught that stupid guy. He was going to hurt somebody. Then all of the sudden i heard the shots and got the hell out of the way. Authorities say a car full of teenagers crashed in oakland this morning while on the run from highway patrol. It began around 1 00 this morning. They tried to pull over the older model toyota sedan because they suspected the driver was drunk. The car eventually plowed in to a fence at west grand avenue and campbell streets. There were five teenagers in the car. The injuries ranged from minor to serious. Firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire at independence high school. They saw flames burning the extd ing inside. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in less than an hour. No one was hurt. Investigators are still trying x tent of the damage to the school. A fire last night in campbell displaced an unknown number of senior residents. The fire broke out at about 10 30 p. M. At wesley manner on hamilton avenue. Santa clara county firefighters evacuated those living on the 12th floor. No reports of injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Gilroy Police Arrested a man and are looking for two others in a bar fight stabbing. Officers were called to the long house restaurant on monterey road just before midnight. Thats where they say they found a 36yearold man near the bar with several stab wounds in his back. He was airlifted to a trauma center. They arrested effrain regoso. In San Francisco organizers for the escape from alcatraz triathlon reported today one of the participants died near the swim portion of the race. The race attracted thousands of people to the bay area this morning. It featured an 8mile run, 18mile bike ride, and 1 and a half mile swim from alcatraz. Gomez from spain took first place. The man who died was from austin, texas. He apparently suffered a heart attack as he jumped in to the water. A light earthquake hit today on the Northern California coast. The u. S. Geological survey said the 4. 3 magnitude quake happened just before 10 00 this morning and was centered about 46 miles southwest of eureka. There are no reports of any injuries.
