From sunny vale the Valley Transportation Authority says an individual was stabbed near the ream wood station on taszman driver this afternoon. That person was taken to the hospital for several stab wounds. And police say a suspect has been taken into custody. The vta tells us some southbound trains were delayed for some time. A 14yearold girl is on life support after being hit while crossing the street right outside of her high school. Its part of an alarming trend in the south bay. Patti lee is outside the Girls High School where counselors have been on hand for the past two days. Patti. Reporter today teachers here at james Lake High School have been told to keep an eye out for students who are acting strangely but have not asked for counseling. Thats because theres a lot of miss information circling about this accident that took place here sunday night and its causing some students to start mourning the death of Bianca Valdez while others are Still Holding out hope she will recover. Pray for bianca is the Campaign Friends of the 15yearold are circling privately on instagram. Shes a beautiful girl. I loved her. I just hope that her funeral is just the way she wanted it. Reporter but biancas boyfriend says he started mourning sunday night after bianca was declared brain dead at the hospital. Artiz was the last person to see bianca sunday night. She was hit by a mini van after he left his house. She got hit hard. She got hit right here. And ended up over there. Reporter bianca was thrown 100 feet and landed in front of her high school. The driver stopped and neighbors say he was visibly shaken so they called 911. It is upsetting to go and see an empty chair when youre used to seeing someone on the daily. Reporter the accident is devastating to students and administrators. A new crosswalk with flashing lights was installed just a few weeks ago to keep students safe. But bianca did not use it sunday night. Tonight her boyfriend blames himself for not driving her home. Just seeing her out there like that, you know, i just wish i could have told her the last thing that i really wanted to tell her. Reporter Bianca Valdez is the third person in san jose to be hit and killed in the past two days. Two of the three were not in crosswalks. So far this year in san jose 24 people have been killed. And i did talk to the city this afternoon, and these last three appear to be terrible accidents. Reporting live in san jose, patti lee, ktvu news. More details now a california report card on Pedestrian Safety that was updated last march shows a 3. 9 increase in the number of pedestrian deaths. In 2010, 601 pedestrians were killed. In 2011, that number was up to 625. As for the numbers of seniors who were killed it was just about the same. 150 seniors killed in 2010. 151 died in 2011. A teen who was set on fire on an ac transit bus is going home tomorrow. And today his accused attacker made another appearance before a judge. An update now on injured giants fan bryan stow who was badly beaten three years ago. Stows family tells tmz he needs to take 17 medications a day. His parents have been caring for him at their home in capitola as the family copes with his traumatic brain injuries. The dodgers are asking a judge to rule if the team is liable for his injuries before the court addresses the issue of damages. Crews recover the body of a 29 29yearold man from pittsburg out of the sacramento river. The accident happened as the victim was driving an excavator. The excavator was 16 feet under water and partially buried sways in silt. No word on why the excavator fell into the river but calosha is now investigating. Seven people shot. Investigators are looking into what motivated several men to open fire at a celebration. A Street Corner was sprayed with bullets and how an innocent bystander was just taking out trash. One of the victims a man named raul was simply taking the trash out when he was shot in the neck. One of the shooters had a handgun the other a rifle. Reporter the two gunmen were standing here on the corner of 96 and olive. They fired toward the group of men. You can see a bullet hole in that truck. Then there was a fan of fire moveing to the right hitting the man taking out his garbage and ending up here. Seven people shot at once unusual. But shootings in this part of east oakland are not. As of november 15, there were 171 shootings in east oakland up 6 over last year. It is not hard to imagine why neighbors are scared. I feel like its not fair. The reporter the man the neighbors say was taking out his garbage, police say he had his children near by. All of them are in stable condition however. One of them remains in Critical Condition at the hospital. In oakland, ken pritchett, ktvu news. Hayward police tonight are hunting for a gunman who they say used a weapon to steal valuables from an apartment. An argument broke out between a man visiting the apartment and the couple. The man left but came back and opened fire. No one has been arrested. Santa cruz police are investigating the suspicious death of man found partially naked in his driveway. A woman who was walking her dog found the body of a 57yearold man about 7 00 this morning on cypress avenue. Police say the man had suffered several stab wounds and that evidence at the scene suggests a struggle of some sort. Theyve been talking to a person of interest. They plan to serve several warrants in searchover that evidence in search of that evidence. The incident is also unleashing harsh public opinion. It may be generating a second look at a previous race study. Reporter thats right san jose state is still dealing with a hate crime situation. But many student leaders told us today that the incident and the trouble that it brings also exposed a bigger troubled picture of the way the university is run. Much of the talk on the san jose campus was not just about the racial conflict but what it revealed about long simmering anger between University Leaders saying they just dont listen. This hate crime is systematic of a larger issue going on in san jose state in regards to our campus missgovernance. Reporter students consider the campus ripe with racial stereo types and some felt animosity against them. They felt the administration showed little interest. I was very disappointed in the reaction and the response. I mean i felt like its a very useful tool for us taking this to a deeper level. Reporter University Spokeswoman pat lobe harris points out three Task Force Groups are formed to help blacks, latinos and over all diversity. We do have these three efforts under way right now in addition to a number of new measures that the president has announced in the wake of what we learned in the past week. And that includes an independent commission. Reporter daniels is skeptical. Its essentially a pr stunt. Because students tried to take our concerns to the task force, the task force doesnt listen. The Police Department will hold the buy back on december 13th at our lady of guadalupe church. Police are offering gift cards for weapons. Most of the weapons will come from legal gun owners but they also say gang members who want to turn in a gun they can do so anonymously. 44 people have been killed so far this year in san jose. President obama wrapped up a three day visit to the west coast today with an upbeat message for the entertainment industry. The president spoke before a crowd of 3,000 people at the dream Works Animation studio. Chief executive is one of the president s biggest supporters. Financial disclosure reports show that he gave 3 million to the Political Organization that supports president obama. But the president said he was there because of the studios track record in creating jobs. Ive come here today because this is one of the americas economic engines. Not just dream works but this whole cluster of companies that generations have grown up knowing. Disney and warner and universal and others. San franciscos mayor is facing some tough questions tonight about the sky high cost of housing in the city. But more slowly than in past months. According to the standard and poors case schiller home prices were up 25 from november to september. In all, price gains slowed in 19 of the 20 cities tracked. The index showed prices in San Francisco were up 9 . Las vegas saw the biggest increase at nearly 3 . On wall street the markets posted gains on positive news in the housing industry. The dow edged up a fraction. The nasdaq added 23 points and closed above the 14,000 mark. Developing news now Many Americans are preparing to travel this week and there could be some rough weather ahead of them. A cold and wet early winter storm continues to move across the country. Its bringing cold arctic air and dropping snow and freezing rain in the midwest and parts of the northeast. For drivers it has been slow and in many areas dangerous. The mccain fire broke out saturday morning when the winds were really howling. The fire is burning in the geo thermal area and a cooling tower has been destroyed. So far the mccain fire has burned 2,500 acres. Its the largest of the fires that broke out last week. Five firefighters were taken to the hospital but all injuries are considered minor.
