A Community Meeting right now for those those effected by the fire. More than 100 have been evacuated. The evacuation watch is in effect for more homes in the area. The fire is now at 550acrest. It is just 5 contained. At least 15 homes have been destroyed. No injuries have been reported. That fire and another one on the peninsula are causing concern about the air quality in the south bay. Youre looking life at the conditions in downtown san jose. It is much the same story farther south in gilroy. Thats where our robert honda is. How is it where you are . Reporter we can still smell smoke. Many people here didnt realize all the smoke coming from so far away and from Different Directions would hit them so hard. We gilroy is more than 60 miles from the fire. The smoke still made the owner smell sick, then combined with smoke from the fire and a spare the air day t it was a bad day for business. The chemical smell in the air just turned my 12078 accused. I just p did gist did not feel like having lunch. And then you have this fire burning. With the winds that have shifted south, what that means is those winds will starting to blow in this direction, of course from big sur north up into the san jose area. So it is at a Higher Elevation than the haze thats right down at the ground. But that smoke is infiltrating that area. As it settles in, it is making things worse. So a spare of the air day again tomorrow. Visibility up to about 4 miles now, but people are smelling smoke down there. It is definitely from san jose, gilroy, morgan hill is where you notice it the most. You have the redwood fire, the big sur fire and the spare the air day. It is a lot of haze. The 13yearold girl at oakland Childrens Hospital has been declared brain dead. Her family says the hospital will not remove her from life support. Please, god. It is not her time to go. Her family refuses to give up. I just dont think i will be able to sit here and let them take her like that. Im her mother so i will fight for her until tend. But the end came five days ago. Doctors told the family declaring the 13yearold brain dead. No one is saying why, but she died after a routine tonsillectomy. The surgery was supposed to help her sleep apnea. The hospital has nowback backed off the efforts to remove life support. I want her on as long as she can because i really believe god will wake her up. Experts say brain death means dead, legally and actually. That no one is required to keep a dead body on a ventilator. Guidelines require only one bedside exam. Childrens hospital has apparently done several. Experts tell me the hospital is extending her life support only out of compassion for her surviving family who almost cruelly now see the appearance of life. If her heart is still beating, why are you trying to take her off life support. Obviously, there is still a chance that she can survive. Police announce the arrest of a suspected credit card chief. Shortly after releasing two surveillance today, they say the man tried to make a stolen purchase with a stolen card. The victim realized his wallet had been stolen and called police. Two people have now been charged with obstructing Santa Rosa Police officers. The deputy mistook the teenagers bee bee gun for a real ak 47. Police say last month, a 24 yearold David Douglas refused to get off the street during a protest march. He pleaded not guilty today. And, 30yearold ramon cairo was charged yesterday with assaulting a Police Officer during another protest december 10th. A third man will be in court lacer later this month to face possible charges stemming from that zymodemation. The crime rate in san jose is now higher than the average crime rate for the entire country according to a new report. The citys independent auditor said last year there were slightly more than 3,000 major crimes per 100,000 residentses. That is 3 above the state average and 1 above the countrys average. It should clean the atmosphere out quite a bit as we go into the next 24 hours. There should be patchy fog showing up as we get into late tonight early tomorrow morning. Here is the sunset. The winds in the bay area are northeast. Just not good air quality right now. It will get better as we go through time. But right now the inversion is setting up. After that, winds kick up as we get into thursday and friday.
