Were here to facilitate that and make sure no outsiders come in, disrupt their message or freedom of speech. Reporter friday night, vandals taringed more than 30 businesses, including this hyundai dealership, smashing 60 cars and burning a brandnew 2015 Hyundai Elantra to the ground. A very small group of people with rocks in their pockets and malice in their hearts disturbed what was otherwise a very positive day in oakland. And the result was significant damage to businesses in our civic center and in our auto grove. The mayor said the city did a good job of protecting people, but not as good a job protecting property. But the Oakland Police chief said protecting human life was the priority, especially as last nights protests changed. Once we declared an Unlawful Assembly after the broken windows, at that point, from that point forward, its not facilitating a peaceful march. Its trying to put an end to it and to make arrests, particularly for the vandalisms that were occurring. Reporter 12 people were arrested and one officer had a minor injury. The chief says officers used force twice during the arrests. He asked for Business Owners and the public to send video of that vandalism to police.
