good afternoon, i'm noel walker. one man is under arrest after trying to kidnap a girl yesterday afternoon. christien kafton is live with what we're learning about the man aired we're here at 163rd 163rd avenue, alameda county sheriff's office tells me this is the area where a man tried to grab the young girl. she managed to escape, run into this youth center, a move that led to the arrest of 53-year- old martin gonzalez yesterday afternoon. >> this is the things that nightmares are made of. here's a guy in his car, he's got his pants down around his ankles and here's an 11-year- old girl minding her own business and she gets grabbed by a stranger. it's every parent's nightmare. >> reporter: after fighting back and escaping from the car, the 11-year-old girl ran here to the ashland youth center. a youth center she attends and a place she knew she could get help. >> she was very very calm and confident. that's the best word i can put. it wasn't like oh, scared, i'm unaware. i feel like she had had the tools to deal with the situation like this. >> reporter: just last year, the same 11-year-old took a self-defense class at the youth center. deputy sylvia trained her, and says despite the fact the girl is small for her age, she's tough, and did everything right. >> when i found out it was this female, i was proud of her. she was one of the smallest and the most ebber jettic. >> reporter: this afternoon -- energetic. >> reporter: this afternoon we're learning more about the suspect. 53-year-old martin gonzalez, splits his time living here and in mexico. he does not have a criminal record. because of the bold nature of the crime, they're checking with other jurisdictions and mexican law enforcement. he's facing attempted kidnapping. crest crist, ktvu channel 2 ktvu -- christien kafton ktvu channel 2 news. fire crews were called in to help free a car thee suspect, that got stuck in his fireplace. you can see them peering under the pool house on philips lane this morning. that's where the auto theft suspect was trying to hide. a police k-9 tracked him down, but it appears he just couldn't get out on his own. fire crews dug out a trench and used rope to pull marglin out from under the building. it started around 4:45 this morning: when they saw the suspect driving a r car believed to be stolen, officers chased him along highway 4 until the car broke down and he ran off. two deadly attacks in two days, the latest was a stabbing early this morning in downtown san jose near the fairmont hotel and tech museum. janine de la vega tells us what police found at the scene that they're hoping leads to the suspect. >> as a children arrived at the tech museum for summer camp, many passed by crime scene tape and gathering evidence about who killed a man on market street. >> it's not fun to pull up and see 6, 7 police cars and a crime scene investigator, but it's also a teachable moment for him. when i pick him up today, i'll fill him in a little more. >> reporter: police were r called to the -- were called to the area at 2:15. someone reported that a group of 5 to 6 people were attacking a man. officers arrived and found the victim stabbed at least once. he was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after. investigators started canvassing the neighborhood for evidence. >> there are a bunchover bunchover -- bunch of beer bottles, under known if they were hanging out or if it was a random act of violence. >> reporter: there was also clothing in the park, and a black backpack left at the intersection. police are not saying if it belonged to the victim or not. preliminary investigation indicates this does not appear to be gang related. >> right now, no arrests, no suspects identified but we're hoping that maybe with the witness statements and other evidence as we progress through the day, we'll locate something. >> reporter: transients are known to hang out here, and we asked police if the victim appeared to be homeless. they say he doesn't. authorities have not identified hirple yet. but they do -- him yet, but they do tell us he was 33 years old. reporting from san jose, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are also investigating a deadly shooting that happened less than 12 is hours before this morning's stabbing. it happened yesterday afternoon on gramercy place in east san jose. a family friend says he was walking to his friend with his girlfriend to attend a barbecue when he was shot. escalera had just graduated from the san jose conservation core. >> this is a bad area here, and you can't even walk anywhere without worrying if you're going to get shot. i can't believe this. he's a good boy. >> police say the motive behind the shooting is not clear. they're investigating whether or not it was gang related people who live in the neighborhood say there has been a rise in violence. some even say they're afraid to leave their homes in the middle of the day. today san francisco supervisors will consider a new crime fighting plan for the city with a focus on areas that have been hit hard lately. in the past month, there's been four homicides in the bay view neighborhood. supervisor malia cohen says it's a tragic situation getting out of control. in just a few hours she plans to and the board of supervisors to create a special gun violence task force. that would indicate police officers, school and community leaders, and mental health workers. richmond police hope a $5000 reward will help in their effort to find the person suspected of attacking and robbing an elderly woman. varieties just released these pictures of the suspect on bank surveillance camera. she's accused of robbing an 87- year-old won on july 5th at the atm at mechanic's bank. the victim had just withdrawn money when the robber attacked her, knocking her to the ground, and breaking her hip. the attack has left people in this rich monday neighborhood on edge. >> i was surprised to hear that someone had been attacked here. >> i was very shocked, really really shocked. >> the robber left the scene in an suv driven by an accomplice. anyone with information is urged to call richmond police. san francisco police say four people already hurt in a major hit-and-run crash involving a stolen minivan. officers tried to pull over the minivan driver shortly after 10:00 last night near johns and post treat. the driver allegedly sped off and ran a red light, smashing into a taxi cab. a witness tells us that impact sent both vehicles onto the sidewalk hitting a pedestrian and a bicyclist. >> he came through that light, it was a red light. he didn't make an attempt to brake. there's no skid marks or anything like that. he just hilt the taxi at full force, and 360s and hit the pedestrians in the traffic light. >> two suspects were injured along with the cyclist and the pedestrian. the at last check, that cyclist was in critical condition. officers say the suspect ran a off and tried to get on a bus around the corner, but they were able to catch him. he will most likely face hit- and-run charges. the clubs are still swinging at a 52-year-old san francisco golf course, but this just two days, it could be forced to close its doors. the glen eagles golf course in the sunnydale district will close on thursday if the operator and the city can't reach a new lease deal which is set to expire. the owner says water bills have gone up 40% due to the drought, and that is playing a big role in the decision to shut down. there are reports that the two sides are about 75 to $90,000 apart on the water subsidy. crime is also a big factor, since the course is located in one of the most violent neighborhoods in the city. to continue our coverage of the mideast conflict, it was a night of heavy fighting with smoke rising over gaza this morning. israel air strikes crippled gaza's only power plant. they took out the home of gaza's hamas leader and the group's tv station and mosque. there is word that the palestinian authority is asking for humanitarian truce which it claims hamas has agreed to and israel is prepared for a truce, but there is no actual agreement. >> we have shown in the past we're willing to cease fires but has nas has been the spoiler. they have always refused to hold their fire. >> we want to negotiate peace with israelis to end the occupation of all parts of our homeland including the gaza strip, the west bank and east jerusalem. >> israel says it will not stop protecting itself against hamas tunnels. more than 1100 palestinians have been killed in the fighting. the un estimate, that 70% were civilians, 53 israeli soldiers have been killed along with 3 israeli civilians. the deal to keep the oakland a's at the doing at the time of the murder. new at noon, the ten year lease agreement to keep oakland's major league baseball team in the city could soon be one step closer to becoming final. sal castaneda joins us live with the latest on the vote by the alameda county supervisor. sal. they're voting right now in this ten year license agreement is expected to be approved and one of the things that we have been told is that the ten year agreement between the a's and the coliseum will pass today. they're voting on it now. the vote is scheduled early in the meeting. in fact they're voting on it now, as i said. and one of the things that we have known is that supervisor nate miley says it's a done deal and he thinks this is a great thing for the city of oakland. >> not only my constituents, folks, all over the region, not just oakland, alameda county, but throughout the region have been talking to me about this, and how delighted and ecstatic they are that the county and city are working to keep the a's in oakland! now, this agreement does have an out in case the a's want to move but the team would have to stay until at least 2017, and then it would have to give two years notice to leave. now, the a's would have to pay the rent for the entire ten years. the agreement does not preclude the oakland raiders from trying to build a stadium on the coliseum site. this vote is a formality. the next thing that happens, they will go to the joint powers authority sometime next month. that's also expected to pass. so it looks like the a's at least will have an agreement with the coliseum for the next 10 years. again, there's also negotiation going on. one thing he did find out, the a's are going to be getting a brand new $10 million score board. the a's will pay for that. whoever pays, they are going to be getting a brand new score board at the coliseum, which is a big deal for a lot of baseball fans. live in oakland, sal castaneda ktvu channel 2 news. thank, sal. drama in a contra costa county courtroom, a man previously suspected of murder is a free man thanks to his mother's testimony. yesterday, a judge ordered the release of kyle navarro. accused of killing his friend nick electrical cal -- nicholas calin in march. but during her testimony, navarro's mom said she was talking with her son on the phone at the very moment of the deadly shooting. the judge ruled her testimony along with other evidence shows navarro was not an accomplice to the murder. now the ex-boyfriend of the victim's girlfriend is the sole suspect in the killing. civil rights attorney john burnt is calling for a federal investigation into the shooting of a latino man by salinas police. friends and relatives gathered with attorney burris outside the federal building this morning. there have been four shooting deaths in the last four months. one of the victims was holding a cell phone that officers mistook as a weapon. burris says the situation is alarming and cause for fear among the community. he wants a probe to determine if those shootings represent a pattern of discriminatory law enforcement. a 25-year-old stockton man who refuse treatment for tuberculosis has been arrested. san joaquin county officials had told cruz to stay at the prima hotel for treatment. he disappeared. cruz has to be medically cleared before he is sent back to san joaquin county which could take weeks. it's contagious and can be spread spread air. a 42-year-old southern california man drowned at lake tahoe. authorities say he was swimming yesterday at san harbor state park, about 50 yards from shore when he started yelling for help. a bystander jumped in trying to rescue him. when he was back on shore, life guards and firefighters tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful. that man's name has not been released. some 1200 people evacuated from a fire burning in eldorado and amador counties are being allowed to return home now. the sand fire burning in the sierra foothills east of sacramento is now 80% contained. since it broke out on friday. on sunday evening, cal fire said a private drone being flown over the fire nearly caused air attack operations to be shut down. so far, the fire has destroyed 68 buildings, and has burned 3800 acres. it was believed to be sparked by someone driving over a patch of dry vegetation. meanwhile, fire crews are battling another fast moving wildfire near yosemite national park. right now, two main roads linking the bay area to the park remain closed. they are highway 120 and part of big oak flat road. despite the fire, the park and all entrance gates are still open. however, the crane flap, yosemite creek and bridal veil campgrounds are closed. the fire has burned 2700 27 acres and is 25% contained. the cause is under investigation. as our drought deepens, all californians must now follow emergency mandatory water conservation regulations, the new water restrictions which were adopted by the state water board are going into effect today. they target outdoor urban water use. under the regulation, all californians are expected to stop washing down driveways and sidewalks, watering lawns and gardens that cause excess runoffs and use hoses without a shut off nozzle to wash motor vehicles. and one stop operating fawn takens with recirculated water. local agencies could and for fines up to $500 a day for violators. well, it's been a while sense i have said this but we're back to a july, more normal like pattern. that means 60s, 70s with some fog by the coast, and 90s inland. the tropical lightning strikes down in southern california, san diego, la over the last, oh, about four or five days. for us, sunny and warm, fog near the coast, a little warmer inland, lose some of the tropical clouds. 70s, 80s to 90s. a few locations pushing near 100 degrees. 93 concord, brentwood, 97. 75 in oakland. most locations reporting sunshine, in parts of the coast, dealing with sun or a mix of fog and sun. the ocean temps are still in the 60s. rather mild for some, even though there's a lot of fog, it's not that cold. 70s and 80s on the peninsula. not much change here. things are really quiet. the only hint is there may be gradual warming as with we head toward the weekend. >> i was at the beach yesterday? >> and? >> it was stocked in as usual, very humid, different than what we're used to. >> the water temps are 60 and 64. >> time to get in. >> you can't cool off. >> yes, i should have brought my surf board but i was working. >> next time. a bay area woman has quite a story to tell after visiting a local beach. here is a photo of a stranded shark she found near lands end in san francisco. we are told it is a juvenile salmon shark, subrhi sarna said she spotted the shark while
