A break if that wall of flames does come this way. Most of this historic gold rush town of more than 2,000 is empty following an evacuation order. Firefighters now filling up the streets where tourists normally stand. The few families that remain are ready to leave in a moments notice. Bunch of pictures and all that in there and a little bit of clothes to keep it from breaking in there. Important paperwork. Reporter darren hale has lived here most his life. Even with a massive fire bearing down on mariposa, he wants to see it through. I probably wont go. Might send the wife and cats off but i wont go. Reporter this fire isnt going anywhere either, now threatening to burn down one of californias original hometowns. As we mentioned, more than 5,000 people have been forced from their homes. Hundreds of evacuated homeowners are in red cross shelters in the nearby city of oakhurst. One woman said she obeyed the order to evacuate but said her son stayed behind, hoping to protect their homes. Im really worried. We dont even know if we can go home tonight. Were just hanging out here. Cal fire updated the damage estimates tonight. It now says at least eight structures have been destroyed in the fire so far. Smoke from the fire can be clearly seen in nearby Yosemite National park. These pictures from yosemite were taken late this afternoon. Winds are also pushing the smoke all the way to the lake tahoe area which is about 180 miles to the north. Were keeping ktvu. Com up to date with information on the Detwiler Fire including evacuation info. Look for the story right there on our front page. The search for a man who may have fallen off his boat. He was out fishing and reported missing this afternoon. His boat was spotted in the bay going around in circles. Search and rescue boats from the Marin County Fire Department and the Sheriffs Office have been searching the area since late this afternoon. Officials say they dont believe the man was wearing a lifejacket. He was reported to be wearing some type of weighters, some type of boots that could actually pull him under water which could hinder our search because he could be submerged. Crews say there are 30mileperhour winds on tomales bay, making the water choppy and the search more difficult. Human remains discovered in moraga have been identified as a man reported missing 19 years ago. 37yearold richard salmons went missing in 1998. Family members say he vanished after going on a hike at his home in lafayette. Remains were found in a secluded area. State investigators used dna to make the identification, but the autopsy was unable to determine a cause of death. However, investigators say they do not suspect foul play. Now to the south bay. A daring burglary at a Verizon Store in cupertino. Sheriffs deputies say two men went to Great Lengths to pull off the heist but they overlooked one thing. Ktvus Azenith Smith is live in cupertino tonight. Weve learned how the burglars plan was foiled. The thieves disabled the security cameras at the Verizon Store, but what they didnt disable, something important here, a tracking device on one of the stolen goods. Reporter two burglars were bold and brazen. Plywood now covers where they entered through the roof, cutting a hole at this Verizon Store on Stevens Creek boulevard and cupertino. We should check to see if tom cruise is between movies and maybe he needed a new phone. I dont know, because thats very unusual. Reporter it happened monday around 5 45 in the morning. In the back of the building you can see how they may have gotten on top of the roof. This ladder has a brand new lock. Definitely requires some sort of preplanning, probably prior knowledge of the actual building. Reporter the Sheriffs Office says the burglars armed with power tools used a saw to cut through a metal storage drawer. Then they swiped 189 items, iphones, ipads, Samsung Galaxy phones worth 138,000. Surprised. Just something that doesnt happen here in cupertino. Reporter the Sheriffs Office says they did exit through a door using trash cans to take the items to their car. Deputies caught up with them 10 miles away underneath the southwest expressway on meridian avenue in san jose. Inside their silver lexus in the back seat and in the trunk, the stolen goods. Sources say one of the items had a tracking device which led to their capture. Thats why i think its kind of foolish for a burglar to be going after iphones. Got too much security right now. Reporter deputies arrested 40yearold tran nguyen of san jose. This is his booking photo. Nguyen is being held on bail. Also arrested, mark tran of american canyon. Tran bailed out so deputies did not provide a photo. Its kind of a cat and mouse game. These suspects and crooks think of ways to beat the system and then the system tries to catch up with new security protocols. Verizon has now hired a Security Guard to man the store inside during business hours. That Security Guard told me shell be there for the next week or so and deputies tell me theyre working with bay area Law Enforcement to see if these men are connected to other burglaries. Azenith smith live for us in cupertino tonight, thank you. In San Francisco, some big changes are coming to geary boulevard despite opposition from people who live along the busy corridor. This afternoon transit officials approved plans to expand bus only lanes along geary. Riders want Faster Service between the route between downtown and the richmond district, but not everyone agrees dedicated bus lanes are the solution. I dont believe they should build anything in the middle. This will really be very costly and take years. I think it is long overdue. For decades this project has been in the planning process. To make room for the dedicated bus lanes, the project will eliminate one lane of vehicle traffic in each direction along with street parking. The 38 geary is one of the busiest bus lines in the city. It serves about 54,000 riders every day. Now to washington where a new vote is scheduled for next week on a bill that would repeal obamacare without a replacement, this after the republican effort to repeal and replace collapsed. As fox news Lauren Blanchard reports, the repeal may come up short on votes. For seven years, republicans have been promising to repeal obamacare. Now it seems the gop has one option. Resurrect the house repeal bill two years ago that was vetoed by president obama. At the request of the president and Vice President , after consulting with our members, well have the vote on the motion to proceed to the Obamacare Repeal bill early next week. Reporter Republican Leadership announcing plans to repeal obamacare even without a replacement. Plan b for the gop after their Senate Healthcare bill failed to get enough support. Essentially the same vote that we had in 2015. Disappointed. Very disappointed. Reporter president calling for republicans to not give up on killing the Affordable Care act. Even if its Party Replacement bill is dead in the water. Let obamacare fail. It will be a lot easier. The president is playing a dangerous game. Reporter democrats saying the president s plan is not acceptable and urging republicans to work across the aisle to fix healthcare in a bipartisan way. He wants to throw up his hands rather than roll up his sleeves to work with us and solve the problem. Reporter while not all republicans are onboard with the repeal without replacement plan, some who oppose the Senate Healthcare bill seemingly agree that repealing is their best option for now. Im in favor with moving forward with partial repeal and trying to work to get rid of the rest of the bad elements of obamacare that have driven prices up. The president has invited all gop senators to the white house for a lunch meeting. But the president may already be looking ahead to the midterm elections, saying today hell need more republicans elected in 2018 to pass a replacement bill. Were learning more tonight about a previously undisclosed meeting between President Trump and russian president vladimir putin. The white house acknowledged a second meeting happened during the g20 summit in germany. After meeting officially earlier in the day, the two men were observed by other foreign leaders at a dinner later july 7th. The discussion lasted for about an hour and relied solely on a russian translator. On twitter President Trump acknowledged the meeting but called the scrutiny of it, quote, fake news. San francisco is getting a head start on californias green rush with Recreational Marijuana sales set to legally start next year, the board of supervisors approved creation of the First Ever Office of cannabis. Ktvus Tara Moriarty reports. One marijuana expert we spoke to here in the bay area said since Recreational Marijuana became legal in the state of colorado, about 300 dispensaries have popped up in denver alone. And while San Francisco certainly doesnt have the Square Footage that denver has, its bracing for the pot business and in a big way. Reporter youve heard of the gold rush of 1849. Now San Francisco is bracing for whats being called the green rush of 2018. Weve kind of had to be underground for quite some time. Reporter no longer in the shadows. Medical marijuana dispensaries like spark on Mission Street this is going to be our clementine. Reporter are preparing to sell pot to Recreational Users come january 1st. My personal opinion is things are probably going to be bigger than we anticipate. Reporter supervisor jeff shehy sponsored the legislation to create the citys First Ever Office of cannabis. Officially approved today by city leaders. What this does is set up a one stop shop so we have a centralized place in order to regulate this, to make sure we do this safely and appropriately. Reporter in the past, several departments including fire, public health, and building inspection over saw the medical Marijuana Industry. While those agencies will remain involved in the permit process, shehy says it will be streamlined through one office, consisting of three workers and a 700,000 budget. The cost of running the office is recovering by the fees that are assessed on people who are selling or growing or the whole Marijuana Industry basically supports the regulation. Reporter there are currently 30 medical dispensaries in the city. All are expected to apply for a local Recreational Use permit by november which prepares them for the state permit january 1st. No one knows how many more would be cannabis sellers will apply, but if you look at the numbers in colorado, last year there were about 700 storefronts that sold marijuana. Thats more than triple the number of starbucks throughout the state. Were talking a very big money maker. In San Francisco, Tara Moriarty, ktvu fox 2 news. New at 11 00, a San Francisco supervisor is reworking proposed legislation to crackdown on bicycle chop shops to reduce the role police play in the process. The proposal aims to crackdown on Homeless People who dismantle or repair bikes on city sidewalks while accumulating huge piles of bike parts. Supporters say it unfairly targets the homeless for owning property and repairing bikes. The modified proposal moves many functions from police to the department of public works. The vote on the measure is set for next week. City leaders in richmond are considering a new way to create transitional housing for the homeless. As ktvus Paul Chambers reports, the plan involves tiny houses on wheels. It may not look like much, but this tiny house on wheels may be a game changer for richmonds population. Its relatively inexpensive to provide transitional housing for a homeless person. Reporter he says as of the beginning of the year, there were more than 100 Homeless People living on richmond streets. That number could easily grow. Thats why city leaders are looking at options like the tiny house on wheels as a place for those in need. This is not an opportunity for somebody to put one of these in there, just put anybody in it. We want to put the person whos truly homeless in it. Reporter this tiny house was built by students at uc berkeley as part of a contest. Although this isnt the house that will be used for the program, the concept of the tiny house on wheels was the same. We were aware of plans to use tiny houses as Homeless Housing and are still keyed in to that potential for future versions of this house. The Pilot Program allows six of the transitional homes to be constructed or placed in the city of richmond. If successful, that number may increase. However, one potential drawback is where the tiny houses will be placed. They could be on a residential lot. They could be on a commercial or investor lot. As long as the utilities are there to hook in to. Were still a ways out. It has to go through first and second reading. If it clears those hurdles, then they can look at tiny houses to be brought in to the city. Amazon launched its Meal Kit Service today sending shares of blue apron down more than 5 . Unlike blue apron, amazon fresh does not require a subscription and meals can be bought individually. The meals have similar price points ranging from 20 for a meal that serves two. Temperatures today cooler than theyve been in the last couple days. Temperatures dropped off from 105, 106 saturday and sunday and now antioch was 92. That was the hot spot. 88 in fairfield. The cooling trend has kind of bottomed out right now. Its been nice but now we start to warm slowly. These are the highs from today. As we go in to the next 72 hours, temperatures will kind of ratchet up a couple degrees here and a couple degrees there. Pretty slow warmup and not a major heat wave. Just a warmup from the lows of today. Today ended up being the coolest day of the week. Because of that system right there, just spins up there and kind of weakens the High Pressure so the air is not sinking as vigorously. Fog is back at the coast. Not showing up on this model but we do have fog around pacifica, half moon bay. Fog will be around tomorrow morning. A good sea breeze going on too. Cooler everywhere than it was last night. Waiting for the fog at the golden gate bridge. Not seeing it quite yet but you can tell it looks like its trying to form there with the haze and with that said, tomorrow well begin the warming. Today, cooled. Yesterday, cooled. We bottomed out because of this low which we sort of showed you. As temperatures dropped off from the highs on sunday to the lows on tuesday, were going to go in to a slight warming trend. But the sign serve isnt going to be as steep as this. Its going to climb out more like this. Going to be cooler, milder, and not a real quick climb in to the warmth. So even by sunday, the hottest, maybe 94, 95 in some of the inland bay valleys. Theres the fog and low clouds for tomorrow morning. Not a lot of it but some. And then there are the 90s. Those are the reds and the yellows are 70s. Oranges are 80s. Thats a lot like today. Not like today, just slightly warmer. 93 in vacaville. 92 in brentwood. Air quality is okay. Fire danger is super high just because its july but its certainly not going to be exacerbated too much by the weather which is sort of cooperating with cal fire right now. Theres the 5day forecast. And heats up, the hottest day of the week is going to end up being sunday. Coolest day of the week will end up being today. Tough seeing all those fires right now. Just get used to it because its not even really fire weather and these things are popping. As we move forward for the furth
