The late summer heat is breaking records and making history for the Campbell UnionHigh School District. This is unprecedented yes. Reporter the triple digit weather prompted the district wide clang. We became very concerned with the well being of our students and our staff after numerous complaints and concerns were voiced to us in the last several weeks because of the heat. And with the extreme heat we thought we shoulder we should error on the side of caution. Reporter this father with two teens at brenham and a younger child says its going to cause a lot of changes. Its going to cause a lot of confusion. Knowing who has to be picked up when. Well have airconditioning in all of our classrooms is a high priority for us but in the meantime we better be safe. The hot weather means increased fire danger in tuoluame county. Its burning about 5 miles east of the historic gold country town of columbia. Calfire says its burned 100 acres so far and destroyed one home and is only 20 contained. And in southern california, another wildfire there is devouring dry brush near fullerton and lahabra. It has scorched about 80 acres but its 70 contained. That fire started about 4 00 this afternoon and prompted fire investigations from homes. Those evacuation orders have been lifted. Passengers on a flight headed for london got the scare of their lives this afternoon at the las vegas airport. Check out this picture flames pouring out of one of the engines of a boeing 777. The crew aboarded their take off after what crews described of a catastrophic failure of the engine. People also took video of one of the terminals. You can see the black smoke billowing out of the jet in the distance. Airport officials reported two injuries now they say 14 people were actually taken to the hospital. Fortunately all of the injuries are considered minor, mostly cuts and scrapes from going down emergency chutes. Firefighters put out the flames in about five minutes. There were 150 people on board along with 13 crew members. The fire initially caught delays in the airport but everything is now back to normal. Now to eastern Contra Costa County and an unusual turn of events for three firefighters. They responded to a life or death call on foot when their fire engine broke down. Tonight we spoke to a firefighter that helped save a mans life. It was hot sunday morning around 11 00. Firefighter sam and others took off. They werent on the road for long until their fire engine broke down. While waiting for the tow truck, another call for help came in. Going to be behind the payless shoe store. Royal lane and jeffrey way. A male in cardiac arrest. Reporter he and the other two firefighters quickly determined that it was only a quarter mile away at a shoe store in a strip mall. We knew we could beat the other engine. And time is of the essence especially cardiac arrest. Reporter without hesitation, the crew grabbed 60 pounds of gear and jobbed to the scene. Minutes count, if we could get there before the other engine, we had to give it a try. We got weird looks, six guys in uniform running with gear on our back. Reporter there were other problems when they arrived. We just got news that he was in the back of the store. We didnt know if inside or outside the back of the store. Reporter a store clerk walked them to the man. They started cpr then a defibrilator machine. Theyre always ready to help somebody. Reporter an ordinary medical call that got an extraordinary response. The 29yearold says some day hell be telling this tale to his children. Its definitely a story thats going to stick in my mind. Its going to be one of those. Reporter the man was rushed to the hospital. The firefighter tells me the man is in icu. Heather. Well lets hope he makes a full recovery. Amber, obviously having an engine break down in the middle of a car isnt a good thing. But having it happen where it did i guess was a good thing because they were able to help that man out. What was the problem with the engine in the first place. It was a mechanical problem and its been repaired. And those problems are fairly uncommon. Yeah they happen to everyone. Amber, thank you. The tent tenants first held this rally. Members of the Mountain ViewTenants Coalition want city leaders to apply new protection which could include rent stabilization and stronger relocation benefits. Three Santa Clara County deputies accused in the beating death of an inmate were in court today to face murder charges. Reporter three Santa Clara CountyCorrectional Officers appeared in court for the first time. J era lubrin, Rafael Rodriguez and Matthew Harris were all charged with murdering inmate michael tyre. Those who were supposed to protect michael tyre did not. Instead they killed him and we have charged them with murder. The three officers stand accused of beating to death tyre on august 27th. He was found in his cell covered in his own waste. The defense attorney for farris says farris did not cause tyres death. Hes not doing well at all because hes in custody. Hes law enforcement. Hes used to become on the other side of the hes used to being on the other side of the bars. Reporter Authorities Say tyree suffered from mental illness. Many inmates say they heard tyree saying im sorry, im sorry, stop, stop. When one of the deputies returned an hour later he found tyree on the floor. He died from internal injuries. We have filed charges because they have all three responsible for the murder of michael tyree. The individual evidence will be presented in court. Reporter the documents indicate just before the inmate was beaten, another officer hit another inmate in the head. The three officers are in custody and are scheduled to see the court for bail.
