A downpour in oakland. Weve now seen heavy rain four days in a row. We should get a break tomorrow, though. You can credit el nino to this wet start. In sonoma county, a woman was trapped in her pickup truck. She was pulled free after being stuck for about an hour and a half. Rescuers said her head was above water in the truck, but her ankle was stuck. This happened in sebastabul. This was the scene at Lafayette Park at Pacific Heights in traffic. A tree fell on several weeks, crewing a porsha, and jeep, and a volvo. The wind caused the tree to topple over. The steady rain is helping with the drought, but bay area water managers say we still have a long way to go. Ktvus Azenith Smith is live now in san jose, along the Guadalupe River with the rains impact on reservoirs. Reporter i wanted to mention, it just started to rain pretty good here in downtown san jose. All of this river, helping to fill the Guadalupe River. The problem is this water is not going into reservoirs, its going straight into the bay. While the rain is a good start, it is just a drop in the bucket. Nestled in the foothills of the santa cruz mountains, water in the lexington reservoir, a welcome sight for drivers. Used to seeing nothing but dry brush. Some of them stopped to take pictures. When i was passing by on the freeway, i saw the lines of water, and i said that could be a good picture up. Its been is a dry. Its a miracle to see all of this beautiful water upon us. Reporter the recent rains saturating the ground, making a dent with local reservoirs. Up until now we havent seen a tremendous amount of water make our reservoirs. Reporter while these storms have helped, the lexington reservoir, and the nine other reservoirs in the county are well below normal. The district estimates the water levels for the lexington reservoir have risen 1 in the last few days. We are still only a little less than 30 of the capacity of our reservoirs. Not only that, if you look at the statewide reservoirs, which are really important to our area, and throughout california, theyral about half of normal for this time of the year. Reporter filling these reservoirs, just one step. Silicon valley gets roughly half its water from underground. Water seeps into an aquifer. Most of the ponds are still dry. Weve heard it will take ten years of good rain to make up from this drought. Reporter doing their part to conserve. We never use the dishwasher. And when we wash clothes, we try to fill the load. Reporter Santa Clara Valley water customers, also relying on the sierra snowpack, which is off to a good start. Above average so far this year. All right, thank you. This is phoenix lake in greenbrae. It collects most of its water in the watershed. Right now, 7 reservoirs on mount tam are roughly 70 of capacity. Heres a look at the conditions today in sierra. Between he yesterdays storm and tonight, almost 2 feet of new snow is expected to accumulate in the mountains. That is great news for skiers and snowboarders. Reporter exactly what happened in march of 2011, several boats were torn from their moorings and ended up on the shores of tiburon. Were expecting heavy wind conditions, and seas to approximately 20 feet tonight. Reporter the coast guard says this submerged boat will be removed from the bay tomorrow. Another boat sank earlier this week, while tied up at its slip at the san rafael harbor. We spotted this boat submerged off sausalito. Oftentimes, the owners are nowhere to be found. When a boat goes down like that, its very scary, because theres a lot of fuel thats in them, and they can get released, and provide all kinds of toxins into the environment. And of course, youre worried about the people who are inside, and where are they, and how do they get to safety . Reporter the boats are likely resting on the bottom of the shallow bay waters. Still, authorities want anyone who goes out during Stormy Weather to be aware of the risks, and carry proper Safety Equipment and radio. The coast guard is out there to save lives. Every year, we hear about a couple people dying out there. Its disconcerting for all of us. Reporter the coast guard urges boaters to have a plan before they go out, and to wear life jackets. If you have a boat, and dont plan ongoing out, check on it to make sure its sker, and also make sure its not full of rain water. If they cant find the owners of those boats that sank, who pays for pulling them out of the water . If its the coast guard, there is fund from oil spills that help pay for those boats, other jurisdictions have other funds. Parents say they were made aware of the issue, not from the school, but from social media. There was no parent notification. They knew about it last night. There was nothing from the Police Department, or anything else. I found out about it on facebook. Reporter in august of last year, the school had its certification suspended by the state for hiring staff that didnt complete background checks. Less than two weeks ago, the school was recertified. Tonight, investigators in san jose are working to find out what started a 2 alarm fire at an old Orchard Supply store this afternoon. Cruise received a call about the fire at the unoccupied building. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera, and found the source of the heat was in the attic, so they attacked the fire.
