Voter turnout was high and indication of the elevated interest in the race. The biggest prize was in arizona and on the republican side, donald trump is the projected winner, he will take all 58 delegates, immigration was a big issue here and ted cruz, john kasich are lagging behind. As for the democrats, Hillary Clinton easily won arizona, 60 of the vote to 37 for Bernie Sanders, both candidates had tried very hard to win the latino vote. Early results from utah show Bernie Sanders with a big lead over Hillary Clinton here, 33 delegates are at stake. The turnout in utah is said to be unprecedented and results have been delayed because of the huge number of voters. The Republican Caucus in utah also went later than scheduled, preliminary returns have ted cruz in the lead, but he would need more than 50 of the vote to get all 40 delegates. If not, the delegates would be awarded on a proportional basis. The only other race is the Democratic Caucus in idaho, still going on tonight with big crowds there also delaying the results. Hillary clinton is in Washington State tonight after saturdays caucus there. After winning arizona tonight she spoke to supporters saying the terrorist attacks in belgium are a reminder of the highstakes in this years president ial election. We live in a complex and dangerous world. And we need a commanderin chief who can provide leadership that is strong, smart, and above all, study in taking on [ applause ] clinton said the country doesnt need leaders who incite fear and build walls. That, she said, wont keep our country safe. Now to our panelists on tonights results and how the attacks may frame the campaign, joining us from petaluma, political analyst brian sobel. And in our newsroom, james taylor, professor of politics. James, first to you, whats your take away from tonight . Whats the headline . Headline is that the attacks in brussels are likely to help donald trump as they have in the past. I mean, these attacks in paris in november and San Bernardino in december dont seem to have had a bump effect for trump but they certainly do bolster his support and validate many of the comments that we generally see as outrageous in normal politics, as also relevant in San Francisco, that the unfortunate killing of Katie Steiner if im not steinle that also happened immediately after donald trump made unfortunate comments about undocumented people in the country. And that also the incident in San Francisco seemed to smooth some of the comments that trump s made so thats what well see again is it validates trumps antimuslim sentiment, not his antiimmigration policy. Brian, i want to get your thoughts on this, trump has been very vocal about temporarily banning muslims from entering this country while Hillary Clinton has said it is u. S. Leadership that will help keep americans safe. Which message is going to resonate more with voters . I think eventually the clinton message which she delivered tonight about steady leadership and that sort of thing and frankly, the electorate and that sort of thing eventually i think breaks in Hillary Clintons favor. But lets face it, donald trump has tapped into a vein, it is proven tonight in arizona, where he received the support of five term sheriff joe arpaio, and nearly 400 on the mexican arizona border, the issue of immigration continues to resonate in the brussels attacks, really underscores the whole concern about security, national security, international security. Brian, lets talk specifically about the election tonight. Whats your take away from the results . Well, trump did very well in arizona. Cruz doing well in utah i thought was interesting because recall there was some rhetoric earlier in the week from trump about how mormons wanted to vote for people who didnt live. Referring to his constant criticism of ted cruz but looks like cruz is going to do just fine in utah tonight and then Hillary Clinton doing well in arizona, but then sanders having a night as well so it is kind of a mixed bag, but on balance, trump and clinton do well. James, lets get your thoughts, the turnout of voters has been unprecedented, long lines, people wanted to go vote for candidates. What do you make of the turnout in this race . People think that these are Bernie Sanders voters, determined to have a say. The caucuses are definitely about winning the argument, not about winning the vote. And the fact that Bernie Sanders earlier tonight in idaho was at 80 , over ms. Clinton, his caucusgoers and her caucusgoers were in the same room and that bernies followers actually persuaded hillarys to go in his direction so that says a lot about the turnout and i think wherever you see these large pumps, its either trump or sanders that is having the impact of mobilization. When this comes down to it, this election is going to come down to mobilization and turnout, pretty much the 47 that support each site is pretty much set, independent middle that is still out there to be won over but this is not about Winning People over to your side now. Its about getting your people out. Professor taylor, brian sobel, thank you both for joining us tonight. Appreciate it. My pleasure. There appears to be a fair amount of confusion tonight between the city of santa clara and San Francisco 49ers over the teams rent payments for levis stadium. Those disputes focus primarily on how often the payments are made. Santa clara Officials Say the team has not paid rent since december but the team contends that under the contract rent payments are not do every month but rather every quarter. Santa claras vice mayor Teresa Oneill says she is also concerned about a provision in the contract allowing the team to lower the amount of rent that it pays. I think that we have to use a clichi, some transparency issues going on. The 49ers agreed to pay santa clara 24. 5 million in annual rent but a complex formula involving debt service and cash flow could lower that amount. For now 18 spokesperson says city leaders should expect the next installment of rent sometime next week. San francisco supervisors approved a measure today to compensate the sidewalk vendors who were displaced during the super bowl city celebration.
