Ktvus Jana Katsuyama has been monitoring the protest. Jana, whats the situation right now . Reporter julie, i just spoke with the San Jose Police officer who tells me that there are still some protesters who are around the downtown area. Possibly as many as 100 but they are trying to break that up. Earlier today this street was packed with more than 500 people. It was tense and very emotionally charged. Take a look. [ yelling ] reporter some of the protesters were taunting the Trump Supporters as they left the Convention Center. Some of the Trump Supporters were taunting back. Then it got heated and violent. At one point part of the group swarmed into the Hotel Driveway trapping one woman who was wearing a trump shirt. She was making gestures back at the crowd and then someone from the crowd three raw eggs hitting her in the head she was up against the wall. The Hotel Finally let her in. Police in riot gear pushed the car back onto the street but then another incident, one supporter got knocked to the ground in a confrontation with one protester. People on both sides tried to intervene and keep the violence from escalating. The man said the class was over a trump hat. Just walked past me, grabbed my hat. Just ran off with it. We chased after him. We got the hat back and i grabbed my hat and he threw a right hook at my ear. Some of the protesters continued following and surrounding Trump Supporters as they left. There was a lot of pushing, shoving and shouting obscenities. I do want to emphasize that most of the protesters here and Trump Supporters were not violent. We talked with some of the protesters before the class broke out and they said they were trying to express outrage and anger in a peaceful way. Reporter theres a lot of emotion. A reflection of people not willing to accept that a person who is running for presidency has the ideas that represent that kind of hate. I think this represents the people standing up and not willing to take it. Hes racist, hes misogynist and he cannot be our president. These are criminals and we are not criminals. We are strong, hardworking individuals. You know . Reporter police tried to maintain control of this situation all day but that proved very difficult. Parts of the crowd split off in Different Directions and at times took over the street around the Convention Center blocking traffic. I spoke with one Police Officer who said that they did have to call in other people, other agencies from throughout the county to help with the crowd control here. But as one protester told me, just seeing all of his anger on both sides has made him lose a little faith in the humanity of all of this process. It definitely was tense here tonight. And certainly it was an outcome which police and some of the other protesters wanted it to be peaceful did not want to see. Did police make any arrests tonight . Reporter were still trying to find that out, julie. The Police Officer said he had not heard of any. As you can see there are still a lot of Law Enforcement here around downtown. Were hoping to get in touch with the Public Information officer and get a final count either by the end of tonight or first thing in the morning jana, thank you. San jose protest comes on the same day that Hillary Clinton took direct aim at donald trump calling him thin skinned, incoherent and dangerous during a blistering speech in san diego. He has said that he would order our military to carry out torture, he praises dictators. This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes. Making donald trump our commanderinchief would be a historic mistake. Clinton said the election is about two different versions of america, one thats hopeful and generous and one thats angry and afraid. He is not just unprepared. He is temperamentally unfit. To hold an office that requires knowledge, stability and immense responsibility. [ applause ] clinton hit trump hard on foreignpolicy saying he doesnt understand america or the world. She also said the u. S. Would be isolated under a trump presidency. Donald trump responded to clintons sharp criticism in san jose. A crowd of several thousand supporters showed up to cheer him on. Clintons rival Bernie Sanders got a warm welcome in modesto this afternoon. One of his many stops in the Central Valley in northern california. Actress Susan Sarandon introduced the senator who told the crowd of more than 2000 people to use their power in the june 7 primary. For modesto, sanders headed to chico, hell be in fairfield tomorrow. Now to the fiery conclusion of an intense search for the gunman who shot and wounded two fremont Police Officers. The suspect was found dead after police fired tear gas canisters into a home where he had been hiding burning down that house. Today Police Identified the suspected gunman as 44yearold Gerald Villabrille jr. From san jose. As for the two officers, both remained in the hospital tonight. One is in Critical Condition, the other stable. Ktvus Paul Chambers is following the developments and hes at the hall at the hospital in san jose where both of those officers are being treated for gunshot wounds. Paul . Reporter julie, its been more than 30 hours since that tragic scene in fremont. Since then these hospitals have been flooded with first responders, coming to show their support for the wounded officers. Earlier today Fremont Police chief spoke for the first time giving us a detailed report and outline about the incident that ended with suspect dead. Police cruisers from different agencies sit outside Regional Medical center of san jose. Its been this way since wednesday when he Fremont Police detective and an officer was shot while on duty. The officer is still in Critical Condition. The next 24 to 48 hours are critical for him. Theres reason to believe that he can survive these injuries. Reporter the officer, who was with the force for a year and half, was shot by this man. 44yearold gerald via ba. He was pulled over in a stolen vehicle and his in this Autozone Fremont parking lot. Months later cell phone video captured this. Officer down. [ sirens ] all units respond. Reporter radio traffic notifying all officer to respond to the scene. We need a load and go now. Youve got an injury. I need a vehicle now. Code 3. Reporter he managed to strike the officer one time. Before running through a store in your he then made his way a short distance where he encountered a second officer. 24, units to fremont. Units to fremont. Shots fired shots fired shots fired again. 212. Shots fired. [ yelling ] officer down second officer down. Reporter via ba got away for the second time leading them on a manhunt for more than eight hours. Than a tactical swat unit located the shooter. He shot his way into an empty home and told officers he had a hostage but police learned that wasnt true and attempted to negotiate. Officers then deployed two rounds of gas hoping that would drive the suspect out. Instead the house erupted in flames. The insertion of additional gas, we believe, ignited a fire in the residence. And we made numerous attempts to extinguish the fire. Reporter via ba never made it out. Its unclear if the gun battle with officers or the fire caused his death. We then determined that he was in the building. And was deceased. We also located a firearm in the residence that we believe to be the weapon used in the attacks. Reporter the detective in the incident is a 10 year veteran in stable condition. First reported he was struck twice. We found out he was only shot once during that press conference. We learned that new information. As for the officer, he is in Critical Condition at a spokesperson said basically theres a wait and see over the next few days to see how things end up. Julie .
