There were gusting up to 70 Miles Per Hour yesterday. Gusts up to 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour for today. The temperatures will be cooler. Our thoughts are with the firefighters who have a big fight against them today. The wind gusts are currently calmer in the city. Gusts up to 40 Miles Per Hour in the foothills. Down south near the junkins fire, the winds are calmer this morning. Currently were in the 30s and 40s around town. Some spots in the 20s. This afternoon, were going to have temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. And 50s closer to the foothills. Getting on the roads this morning, you wont have a problem. 42 degrees. This afternoon, temperatures at 61 and breezy. Were tracking the chance for showers in the mountains. I will talk about that in a few. A look at the roads. Amelia, it looks a lot better today than yesterday. Night and day. Were seeing excellent roads. The crash count is at zero right now. Keep it safe. Plenty of folks are hitting the roads. Transitioning between the i70 drive between parker and dtc. Out across 6th avenue, no problems whatsoever. Its an 8 or 9minute stretch here. Looking good across downtown. With exactly three weeks to go to the president ial election, donald trump is turning his focus to colorado. He will be campaigning throughout the Centennial State today. Trump starts in Colorado Springs with a rally at 10 00 this morning. Then west to Grand Junction for a second rally at 3 00. Now, trump spent monday in green bay, wisconsin and fired up supporters by looking at the email scandal of clinton. The fbi released notes accusing an agent of proposing a kid pro go to resolve a dispute whether a clinton email should be classified. Trump says that agent should be under secretary of state Patrick Kennedy made the request for altering classification as part of a kid pro go. Quid pro quo, in other words a deal. The Clinton Campaign says there was a strong disagreement about to retroactively classify material that had been sent to hillary clinton. Clintons Campaign Manager says the campaign played that discussion. Trump also says that the election is rigged in clintons favor. Tim kaine fired back. The criticism is unjustified. He is a big bully who is getting beaten and now started to whine. Clinton will be taking today off to get ready for tomorrows third and final debate. The man who admit today killing three people at a Colorado Springs planned parent hood clinic will be back before a judge today. The judge said that robert deer is mentally incompetent to continue with the case. Today there will be a hearing. He has not been undergoing treatment since may. He is charged with 179 counts stemming from the shooting last november at planned parenthood. Also happening today, the fbi will brief us on the nationwide effort to recover children from sex trafficking. The investigation is called operation Cross Country x. Agents have local results as well. This is the tenth recovery effort in colorado and wyoming and involves 30 local, state and federal partners. The press conference is they tell us. It is 5 36. Just after crews got the fire under control, two other fires ignited in colorado. Junkins fire and freeman fire. This shows you the three major fires burning in the state right now. Jessica oh is live at the Emergency Management center. Wind has fueled the fires and their homes. Im glad to see based on your video right now that its just a little breeze at this point. Reporter thats right, cheryl. And forecasters also saying they are expecting the winds to die down today much the winds have proven to be a big challenge for firefighters. The junkins fire is now over 15,000 acres. And the majority of that burped in just a few hours time last burned in just a few hours time last time. This has prompted crews state of colorado to act fast. Resources were sent to the junkins fire hours after it started. Dozens of crews have been tackling it from the air and ground with urgency. They have had to because thousands of homes are in its path. It spread quickly to pueblo county, again, putting nearly 200 residents along the way under a mandatory evacuation order. The winds so strong that firefighters had to shift their focus from putting out the even residents could see how ominous the winds were yesterday as they were getting ready to evacuate. And six structures so far were told have been destroyed, including one home. Were seeing reports online that overnight the number may have grown to three. Were waiting to confirm that this morning. The state of colorado to see if Additional Resources will be sent today. It is interesting to see how they will attack that. Thank you, jessica. Winds made it tough fo townhome fire in aurora. This started near mississippi avenue. The fire damaged four townhomes. Nobody was hurt. Investigators say charcoal from a grill thrown into a plastic trash can started it. When the winds picked up, it made it difficult for firefighters to contain it. We turn now to belen. Belen, the winds should be better today. It doesnt take much to fuel a fire. It does not. Yesterday we had the gusts up parts of the eastern plains. And near custard county, they had gusts up to 70 Miles Per Hour. Now, were seeing improvement in the forecast today. Winds wont be as strong. But still gusty in the high country. 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour gusts. To the south, we have a red flag warning. The gusts could get up to 30 Miles Per Hour there. That red flag warning goes into effect at 1 00 p. M. It will be a bit hazy today. You will notice that visibility isnt going to off to the west. And want to see our beautiful mountains. Air quality is moderate and acceptable to most folks. But for the small group with respiratory problems, you may want to limit your time outside. Isnt it amazing when we actually meet the people that were afraid or angry out and we found out that we have more in common with them than what we think. Thats the question that she is the mother of the first person killed in the columbine shooting. Her daughter rachel loved to write. When rachel was killed, she had just professed her faith. She came back home to make sure that kids have the same opportunity. 42million kids in the United States dont know how to swim. Missy is on a mission to change that. She visited kids at this Splash Swim School in Colorado Springs. She is an ambassador for the usa swimming foundation. They are giving thousands of children low cost swim lessons. Leading cause for uninintentional deaths in the u. S. That can be prevented if more children have the same opportunity that missy had as a child. When i was thrown in the water at six months, ways grinning and laughing but for a lot of kids, it is scary. To get them in the water and show them what you can do, look at all of the stuff that you can do in the pool that you cant do on land and making it fun and exciting and getting them to love the water. Missy says she has enjoyed since being home from rio. She often says her disappointments in rio is because she needed more balance in her life. It was a mental not physical one. She is now training with a new coach and continuing her classes at cal berkeley but loving more than anything that is a great shot right there. Isnt that cute. Am i sitting on her lap . Several states along the east coast may have seen heading towards the International Space station overnight. These images are spectacular. It is the first launch in two years and the first that the launch pad in virginia since a rocket exploded there on liftoff. That explosion happened just six seconds into the launch. It was blamed in part on aging soviet built rocket engines. This rocket has much newer engines built by a russian company. The launch went as expected and the new supplies should arrive station from the rocket later this week. A Colorado Space craft is giving us a look at mars in ways that we have never seen before. The red planet almost looks translucent in some spaces. This caught the glow from the atmosphere in unprecedented detail and showed how strange and irregular the wind pattern can patterns can be information and pictures to studly. It doesnt look like the red plan. No. It looks golden. Anyone with a telescope or a pair of binoculars can see the moon and stars play hide and seek tonight. It happens when the moon passes in front of a star. Well, tonight it will pass in one of the brightest and most colorful stars in the sky. If the weather is okay and there arent too many clouds in a good show tonight. We could. We will have partly cloudy conditions. Depending where you are across the state, you might get a good view of that. Right now its clear over the city. It is really dark out there. Sunrise wont happen until 7 15. You will notice the much cooler temperatures that we have. It is crisp out there. 35 in the metro area. 40s in fort collins. In the high country, a mix of the 20s and 30s. We finally have the weather that we can fire up the snow today the temperatures will be 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, when we got to 75. In the mountains 50s and 60s. In the western slope towards 70agrees. Thats the same area that could potentially see more rain and snow as we go throughout the day. Accumulations, maybe a dusting to two inches. Something, something. We have to put something on the slopes. This afternoon, we will the arrival of a cold front. That will help initiate a colorado. Through tonight, isolated showers are possible. Here in city, it wont be impressive when it comes to rain amounts. But it will bring us a possibility of moisture across the state. Were waking up to sunny skies. Here is a look at the rain forecast. Most precipitation will be falling in the high country and southern wyoming and the panhandle of nebraska. Kind of dry for the rest of the state. At rainy action. It will be cooler and partly cloudy. Making it difficult for firefighters as they wrap up containment on the fire near you fires in eagle county and custard county are still growing. The biggest threat is coming from the junkins fire. It has forced people in almost 200 homes near west cliff to evacuate. As of this morning, firefighters had no containment on that fire. The freeman fire in eagle county is 40 contained.
