Amelia, were all here. Yes. Were in the backyard. Because it is a beautiful morning. Yes. It is really nice and warm and things are changing. A little cooler tonight, and tomorrow. More clouds around the area. And for our friends in northeastern colorado, be on the lookout for some big storms, late tonight. And what a greatlooking sunrise, we have a lot of folks call these broncos sun rises, appropriate. Broncos are in chicago this evening. I will have a forecast for you, coming up, in a few minutes, for that tt be having on the lakeside tonight. And mid60s tonight. Mid70s by 9 00, 10 00, this morning. And we will move to the upper 80s. And i am going to keep it it just shy of 90 degrees today, with one or two storms. I will put it in the 3 00 to 7 00 time period and similar in nature to the storms we have seen lately, where a couple of spots get those little downpours, but most everybody else doesnt really get very much of anything. And even as those move out, the clouds do not, because we have backside, and we are going to have cloudy skies which is really a drag, late tonight, and tomorrow morning, and that is the peak of this years perseid meteor showers. Not the only time you can see them, but it is the peak. And you can see 150 to 200 meteors per hour. The best time after 1 00 a. M. The problem is, the clouds are going to stick around. So at best, it is marginal viewing around here. Not great on the plains at all. So many storms and clouds. If you really love meteors, head to glenwood west. And that is where we will have the clearest skies in the state. All right. Sounds like a plan. We are checking in with sky 9, and they probably have the best view, in the morning rush, and i would say theyre over at i70 and colorado with really, really light drives. And both sides east and west crewing through, 65 miles an hour and a cruising through at 65 miles an hour and if you want to zip through, hit the a rollover crash has shut down areas of colorado 125, between 127 and the wyoming state line. Colorado state patrol tweeted out this picture that you can see here, the tanker truck still on its side. Working in the dark. A lot of cleanup there. I will show you where the accident took place. Further up to the north. And again, the alternates at 127, thats where the police are detouring folks. Here in town, no major problems to look out for. Anywhere across the city. And i25 and 92nd around 45 miles an hour. And the drive around boulder is really off to a nice beginning, check out the drive times, just nine or 10 minutes. And anywhere in the city is looking awesome. So far, so good. We love that. Yes. Thank you. And a man once said to not be grounded in reality fit enough it to stand trial . A judge will try to make that decision today. Robert dear is accused of killing three people inside the Colorado Springs planned parenthood november of last year. Today, he will see if those few months spent under Psychiatric Care have improved his mental state at all. The west nile virus is spiking in colorado right now. One person has died. There have been 13 cases of west nile this year. Three were confirmed in boulder county, on wednesday. Some workers say that theyre keep in mind, these are the people that callers depend on in an emergency. The head of denver 911 says they are trying to train more employees to keep up with the increased case load. But one employee whose identity is being withheld to avoid retaliation says waiting for recruits may have serious consequences. Is a mistake going to be made because were so tired . We are just so tired. Athenna butler says it has been difficult to keep up with the growing population in the city but they say they are taking steps to make sure the employees are not overworked. Butler says the city usually runs two academies a year for call takers. And it is now being increased to three. She is also working to make sure supervisors are keeping track of employees to avoid burnout. How does a gold medal sound celebrating that very day in rio. We will check in with cheryl and matt in olympic park. Quite a way to ring in a birthday. Absolutely so. A lot of celebrating here. And golf starts today for the first time, badminton and gymnastics. It is not just the sport but the personal stories that draw you in and in brazil, it is the culture that is amazing. A lot of singing and dance. And even if you you dont have a ticket to get into the park or the olympic venues, you can still enjoy experience. . The citys 6 1 2 Million People, you are going to see people. Yes. You got to dance right along with them, too. This is a place called olympic boulevard. You will find people from all over the world, getting a chance to experience brazils culture, out of the confines of the olympic park and the venues. There. Big crowds are enjoying it. Absolutely huge crowds. I mean lets face it. Are you in new york city plus. So there are going to be a lot of people. But that is part of the spirit of an olympics and coming down here for the olympics. About 6 Million People living in rio, but that area is the downtown area, the financial district, there are buildings, not skyscrapers but thats where the hustle and busle is. Pretty extraordinary. We have to wish birthday to kristen armstrong, a gold medal winner here in rio. She becomes the oldest american to win an individual gold medal at the olympics. And she didnt even think she was going to be on this team. But dont tell her she is an underdog. She fought through rainy conditions, and it was cold, and she fought against a competitor from russia who had just finished being suspended for doping. She crossed that finish line, after she won, and just happened. Her son, who is almost six, was lifted over the fence, and just ran right into her arms. And in the moment i saw lucas it was a moment where i was crying, he tucked his head into my arm and said, momma, why are you crying, you won and im like, another life lesson to teach my son is why is that we cry when were that emotional and overwhelmed with happiness and joy. She was overwhelmed with a lot of happiness and joy in and a big name in the Cycling Community in colorado. And she was retired, woking at a hospital and just getting out on her bike every now and then and started riding more and more and more and decided i think i can do another olympics, i dont have to train in four years and i can do it in shorter window, and won gold. I like the sound of that. One of my other favorite stories about kristen, is she was saying one thing that got her ready for the races, her teammate mara abbot who just first place, and right before the finish line, three cyclists passed her. She didnt get a medal at all. In the days after her disappointment she was leaving little notes for her teammate kristen armstrong, you can do this, and left it in the toothpaste holder and on her pillow and she won gold. And gary, we love that. I know were getting ready for the broncos playing for tonight. And it is a good thing we are working in a place with 47,000 tvs and we can have simone biles on one and badminton on anr a big sports night. A split screen . Olympics on one side and broncos on the other side. Yes. There you go. All right, guys, thank you very much. A 30 box. Yes. Thats what we need. The 9 news sports bar. Yes. Thanks, guys. We will talk to you later. What a great teammate leaving notes like that even if she didnt medal. And kristen armstrong, what a rock star she is. Absolutely. The question could be answered tonight when denver takes the field in chicago for the preseason game. Mark sanchez and Trevor Simeon will have a chance to show themselves. And rookie paxton lynch will is have a majority of the snaps in the second half. That is centering too. And kickoff at 6 00 tonight and watch the game over on channel 20. So marty, decent football weather, i guess. It is going to be pretty humid in chicago. The broncos may not be comfortable there. We will start with radar here. We have those showers around here. Especially down south. And then we go to the midwest. Where there is is some huge thunderstorms going on, in iowa, and wisconsin but you know what . Right now we are forecasting those to hold off, it is just going to be a hot, extremely muggy day in chicago, with storms hanging out, until early tomorrow morning. And so it looks like the broncos may actually do okay. 10 00 at night, 81 degrees. So again, it is going to be really muggy. Are you going to see these guys sweating it out tonight. Yes. Uncomfortable. You know what . I was watching the rockies last night, marty and they were talking about how they are playing in dallas today, in fort worth, and they were talking about 104 degrees, when they start this afternoon. Whoo. Beautele. Thats hot. But we brutal. Thats hot. But we need a win. Yes. It is Hillary Clintons turn to talk money and give her pitch to create more jobs in the u. S. And her opponent, makes a the man in the oval office. We are breaking down the latest from both camps today. All right, here is the medal count, as we are about halfway, through the olympic games. And another day of domination for the United States in rio. Wednesday. We lead both in total medal and gold medal. And americans have won 11 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze and 32 total. Next closest country, china, with23 total medals and 10 a few clouds over the area right now. Same is true in rio. Denver. And 66 degrees right now, pretty good beach day. A little on the cool side. Most of the venues today, forecast with highs in the low 70s. Not really anticipating much rain in rio or surrounding areas though. We are going to see some thundershowers offshore. Today one. Cooler days of the week. They had the cold front come through yesterday, with the rain showers. And low 70s for a couple of days. And then it starts getting really hot for early next week. Of course, with track and field gets going, that could have humid throughout the midwest, heat advisories in effect there. And we have a few showers down south. And up north, with a bit of a dry spot. In western colorado. Monsoon has been disrupted slightly. And we will continue to be so for the next couple of days. So a few storms here and there. Here in the front range. Not very many. They move through and out. Between 3 00 and 7 00 p. M. Those folks that get rain are generally looking at less than a tenth of an inch of rain and mid80s to near 90 for our daytime highs, with 70s and 80s in the mountains. And now in western colorado, it is really not going to be all that much going on, except up north. We will get some nice thunderstorms going on, from the Steamboat Springs area, cutting through grand county, and then as things go on to the planes, it is way more humid, and way less stable, and i think that is where we could see some big thunderstorms, during the evening tonight and the temperatures there in the 90s. And 80s and 90s out west and here for the front 70s in the mountains today. Not quite as stormy in southwest colorado today. And partly cloudy, afternoon storms, and zip on through here, during the afternoon and evening. And however the clouds, will not leave us tonight. In fact it stays cloudy tomorrow morning. And saturday morning. And we are still going to hold any showers off, until the afternoon. And both of those days, and maybe a storm in the foothills, on sunday, but we start drying out on sunday, and begin that warmup, into early next week. And sky 9 is now over our at 225 and yosemite. Already a backup forming southbound, southbound of parker and tapping the breaks between dtc and tamarac and speeds are dropping down into the Single Digits here. And out we go to the maps and the cdot cams, a pretty view across the city with a nice easy start and everywhere in denver, 25 and colorado in the greens and highlands ranch, 225 and the Commerce City corridor is looking really nice. If youre waking up downtown and heading south, you have a 14minute ride to and travel times around c470 and 11 easy minutes and definitely in the green. And same for 225. It is a 10minute stretch northbound. Between 25 and 225. And it is bright and sunny out there. And this guy, the sun, is back again. Isis is honoring president obama. He is the founder of isis.
