It was the most powerful hurricane to hit the u. S. Mainland since 2006 the year of katrina. Hurricane harvey slammed the gulf coast of texas with 100 mile a hour winds. Like it was blasting out of a power washer. Round one left at least one person dead. Harvey now a massive Tropical Storm still menacing from the International Space station as it churns over southeast texas. Still unleashing dangerous winds and buckets of rain for hundreds of miles. Some areas could get up to three feet by the beginning of next week. You cant make out the ocean but the high ti tide is starting to come in. Millions are in danger of potentially catastrophic flooding. More than three feet of rain could fall in some places. Jeff linder is with Harris County Flood Control where houston is located. We are just getting into this. So people need to understand that, that the longevity of this is going to go through the weekend and even into the early part of next week. Nearly 300,000 Power Outages have been reported and Corpus Christi is under a boil of water. In rock port at least ten people were jury when the roof of a Senior Housing complex collapsed. Hundreds of people were evacuated from a hotel there last night. Its exposed. Harvey is no joke. The manager of this store facility in katy says a tornado crossed a freeway early this more than before slamming right into his billing. My apartment called me in the morning about 6 00 and said the whole building was destroyed the town dough came through about 5 30 across i10. Totally ruined the office. About 200 miles down the coast from where i am in galveston is the town of rockport one of several communities that took a direct hit. David begnaud is there. Ferocious winds and flood water have left this quaint city on the gulf a disaster zone. Parts of the high school were torn to shreds. Harvey showed no mercy on the local baptist church. Some homes have collapsed into the war. We went up stairs and looked out the window and down the road here it was just sheer wall of water like a hundred mile an hour just crazy. Tim freiburgers garage was lifted up and jammed along the side of his house. You couldnt see anything. All you could feel is the pounding on the house. Seniors in this living complex were stranded when portions of the roof were torn away by the winds. Rescue cruise were unable to respond for their own safety. Nearly every car in town has been damaged but still officer were out today. Hello police den. Banging on doors making sure no one was trapped. Randy bonnett has lived through three texas hurricanes but he said harvey he will not forget. The hurricane went right over you. Yes. You got three hours of hell and then an hour lull and then three hours of hell again. Randys like so many people around here who just did not want to get out ahead of the storm. This is the reason city officials want people out. An entire ant comple apartment x collapsed. We dont how many are injured. The officials are busy right now, the phone lines are down. Getting fuels in here is nearly impossible. Bringing in Additional Resources has been a nightmare for officials all day. Demarco. David, thank you. The community of victoria texas gets up to 40 inches of rain per year and could get that much from harvey. Harveys winds toppled trees and shred billings and street signs around victoria but what the storm will likely be remembered for in this part of south east texas is only yet unfolding. Texas governor greg abbott. The biggest concern is the possibility between 20 and 30 more inches of rain in areas ranging from Corpus Christi over to houston. More than a foot andahalf of rain fell in just 24 hours here and by the time the storm is over victoria could get in only days the amount of rain it sees in a year. Angela and mario manag mans ma e checking on the home. We just bought it and to lose it is going to be hard. Its in an area prone to flooding. It just is different but having our kids, thats all we took is the most important things, the Important Documents and pictures that cant be replaced. And throughout victoria, we saw what officials dont want to see. People driving through standing water that is only expected to rise. Its not just the rainfalling here, all the rain fall north of victoria over the next several days will eventual flow back this way only adding to the prolonged flood disaster. Demarco. Manny, thank you. At least six tornados were reported today across texas and louisiana. No reports of serious injuries or damage. Now lets bring in Scott Padgett our meteorologist. Whats the latest, scott. De marco the latest is harvey is still a Tropical Storm a dangerous storm. Those feared bands are all the way through east texas and into southwest louisiana. This storm almost 400 miles across with those bands and the wind is sustained at 65 miles per hour. The movement it is stationary. That is dangerous. Were going to deal with at that time strawic flooding from harvey the next few days. Forecast track just coming in has it by late tonight still over the same area. Still a Tropical Storm by sunday afternoon and down to a tropical depression bay late sunday into monday. Then over the same area of land by monday afternoon as a tropical depression then turning due north into tuesday and into wednesday even closer towards thursday getting towards parts of central texas. A lot of rain is going to be with harvey over the next few days already since midnight a foot of rain. As we widen out the view a lot of rain, heres that forecast for the rain totals as we go through tuesday, wednesday, thursday, possibly 30 inches of rain in some localized spots. Well deal with significant flooding as we go through the next couple days even with a foot of rain near houston and college station. Demarco. Scott, thank you.
