and all the people that he hired and all the people that supported his behavior. so there's an identification with him as opposed to identification with the suffering and the stigma and the self-harm and the self-blame that the victims experienced. the optimistic point of view, the optimistic version i have is that, you know, r. kelly was on trial in 2008 in chicago for pornography and obstruction, right. those were the charges. now we have a completely different landscape, both the federal charges of racketeering and the violation of the mann act, public opinion is strongly against r. kelly. and more survivors are believed than ever before. so that minority that's continuing to call out in support of r. kelly are simply a minority at this point. and more importantly, what i think is -- we should think about the new charges as racketeering and criminal conspiracy is that there's an indictment of the systems and individuals that supported r. kelly's rampant sexual assault of black girls and black women for several decades. that's what's on trial here.
