Unite. I think the president would have liked to be there. The latest fallout from sundays march, and a look at how republicans stumbled out of the gate under congress. And the hollywood award season has begun. Welcome you bunch of dispickably spoiled minimally talented brats. All in starting right now. Good evening from new york. It looks an awful lot like america is about to get their third consecutive mitt romney for president campaign. He is moving quickly to reassemble his National PoliticalNetwork Spending the weekend and today calling former aides and done nors. He sold one senior republican he almost certainly will run. Reaching out in recent days to discuss planes with paul ryan. 2012 runner Newt Gingrich and scott brown. All of this despite his insistent last number that he would not run in 2016 saying there were better options. I want to find the best candidate to bring better jobs and higher income. We can do that, and i am convinced that the field of republican candidates that im seeing is better positioned to do that than i am. He first signalled his change of hard on friday when he declared i want to be president. His timing is not accidental. It comes on the heels of former Florida Governor and republican jeb bushs move to lock up the wealthy donor clash. Romney is reportedly telling supporters he will run to the right of jeb bush. Signaling to conservatives that he shares views on immigration and taxes. And that paul ryan is not a potential president ial rival. He told nbc news he will stay in the house and not seek the presidency in 2016. Among those not welcoming the news is another guy, who aspires to the label of perennial president ial candidate but cant muster the support, donald trump. Do you think mitt romney is trying to take jeb bushs thunder away. I know they dont like each other. And i would say the last thing we need is another bush, and romney had a chance of winning and he blew it. He is a dealmaker that could not close the deal. So you just cant give him another chance. Joining me is karen whose by line is on that today. It seems like this is moving very, very quickly. It does, there is an old joke in politics, the only cure for president ial ambition is enbalming fluid. I think a lot of people dent know how seriously to take him when he dropped this bomb in a group of donors. But its clear from his actions over the weekend. He was calling around, he called a lot of people. He has some commitments on the ground in new hampshire. He decided he truly wants to be president. As i talked to one person, his wife, ann, said if you want to be president , theres only one way to do it. This clearly has do with jeb bush moving quickly and decisively over the past several weeks where it seems all but announced essentially that jeb bush is getting in. And a feeling among people and i talked to people in finance donor circles in new york who do look at the list of candidates and they scratch their heads and think there isnt a real frontrunner right now. Newt gingrich told me that that is exactly what he told mitt rom. M. I. T. Mitt romney. There is a lot of runners, but no front runner. I think this primary is for the donors. People thought the reason that jeb bush came out so early was the rumblings of mitt romney. These guys are, you know, looking at each other like chess masters. There is two ways to interpret this news. This it is pathological. An insane vanity obsession. The other is that if you are nominated to become the president of the United States, you have a coin flips chances of being president of the United States. We fight these battles basically 5545, if you want to be president , and you can get the nomination, youre on the doorstep again. And you have to figure if you come as close at mitt romney did, you think about if this piece was played differently, if i had done this a little differently, but i think it is interesting that he is signaling that he is talking about running hard right to jeb bush. That was new, that was a place he got shoved in the last go round. Now he says this is where im starting. Part of it also is one of the successful things for him was going to the right of governor perry. H essentially destroyed governor perry. Before governor perry imploded, he was getting beat by mitt romney. It was a high point tactical moment for romney during that entire race. And governor perry is talking about running again. It appears well have mike huckabee, these will be very familiar names. I think in some ways this is counter intuitive. For jeb bush, it is probably mostly bad news, but the good news is that with mitt romney in the race he can actually position himself as the new voice. A fresh face, yes. Let me introduce, im jeb, my name is not mitt romney. The story is a republican donor class that has yet to find a candidate to call around. Gingrich told romney there are no frontrunners in the 2016 race. We have runners, but no frontrunners. Many of the wealthy donors are crucial to romney. Some seem to have misgivings. Seeing Chris Christie as damaged. As a result of bridge gate and other scandals. Jeb bush carrying baggage, and with his last name and may be too moderate for the primary. Mitt romney is the same old mitt romney that lost twice already. He is banking on his rivals and the g. O. P. Establishment may give him another chance. Michael, the reason the imvisible primary is so important is that history of the republican primary is, for all of the base, the establishment choice that does emerge triumphant in the end. Whether thats Bob Dole John Mccain or mitt romney. Isnt that a kick in the teeth . For all of the noise that conservatives make about we want one of our own to be the president ial nominee, they go to the polls and vote for the establishment guy. That is how it plays out unless the conservatives can galvanize momentum like rick saner to yum in the last campaign. Able to do around a few issues, position himself to go firth and last longer than anyone expected him to do. The other thing that im fascinated by is a lot of folks are focussing on the top names you see run across your Television Set everyday. Im looking at the next tier of republican governors that have yet to step in, the mike pence, the john casics bobby jend els, the scott walkers. When they get into this thing, thats a different dynamic. Its a whole different race. These other guys have come out on the other side and have a track record they can talk to the nation about, which will be very interesting. And in some ways, particularly compared to jeb bush, theyre less rusty. Scott walker won three elections in four years. With a lot of resources against him. And if i was scott walker, i would be touting that to every donor i could find. On that point, you cant forget that a scott walker has a National Base now. The National Party galvanized behind those three efforts to get him reelected. Hes got a National Base. He is not going to start in the woods. Like a lot of people expect. The reason it starts so early is because of how expensive it is, the ways in which we call the invisible primary plays out. The big question, the 64,000 question in this primary is will it be the rule pertaining again that essentially the establishment candidate wins. I think there is good reason to feel it breaks this time around. But im curious know what you think. I tried to break in in 2000 for 2012. We put in place rules that would allow for a longer process and to have more of an opportunity for people who didnt have money like a Rick Santorum or a Newt Gingrich, to who ultimately found a sugar daddy. But thats another conversation. To come to the table and ultimately play. The rnc is changing their rules and they have changed their rules to try to shorten the process. They dont want what they call the circus to take place again. It will be interesting to see how the conservatives position themselves to play in the game. If they dont, you know hit that top tier of cash, they will be treading water on money and the only thing they have is their message. And whether or not that is able to carry them is still to be seen. Im still of the mind that at the end of the day, i think the party should nominate the most conservative person they can to work with the base and say we lose president ial races because we dont elect a conservative. Here is a chance nominate one and see if the country is ready to elect them. Part of this has to do with how the conservative vote, to the extent of the republican primaries is up for debate the degree it gets distributed among candidates. Thats part of why the war between ted cruz and rand paul will be so brutal on that right flank. If there were run of those candidates who emerges dominant early on, particularly with a shortened calendar, they could hit a momentum up draft. The next thing you know, youre the nominee. Be careful what you wish for, baby. It could come true. Michael steele thank you very much. You got it. Romney and bush are shaping up to be the gop candidates. What happened to Chris Christie . He just saw his last cowboys game of the season. Most believe he used it to bully political candidates. More on that ahead. N get away. Like away away. Road trip . Double wings, extra ranch. The most wanted woman in france managed to leave the country before the attacks were carried out. The Associated Press think there may be as much as six members of the attacksers still at large. France continues to beef up security in the wake of last weeks attacks deploying 10,000 soldiers to schools. World leaders gathered for a sign of unity and solidarity. The image of them marching arm and arm does not include president barack obama or any other high level members of the u. S. Government. Oh, what a relief it is. Here we go some have asked whether or not the United States should have sent someone with a higher profile than the ambassador to france. I think its fair to say we should have sent someone to be there with a higher profile. The white house responding to criticism that no high level leaders attended the march in paris. A massive demonstration in the face of terror. Some lower level state Department Officials were present, the u. S. To some critics display was not in the tableau of World Leaders walking arm and arm in the march. In addition to issuing its meaculpa today the Obama Administration says that jon kerry will vit france this week. The zoomed out view revealed a large gap behind the leaders with the rest of the marchers nowhere in sight. There is a statement it was done for security reasons. It gives the feeling of a stages photo op. Some of the leaders who marched alongside the french president have records that go from poor to absolutely shameful and abyss mall. France, one who has imprisoned more journalists in 2012 and 2014 and whose president has taken cartoon artists to court. An image of the color has been released and it depicts mohammed holding a je suis charlie sign. I cant wait to see what paper makes of their unexpected new allies. We have phillip with us. What do you make of the sort of president , the lack of the american delegation and controversy today. It was a real motley crew. I think that that compromised the political front that you saw to that march, while behind it you had a genuine moving popular outpouring of a massive crowd. Thats what i want to distinguish. All of the attention today is on that photo ocht World Leaders. Because it is amazing, you never see netanyahu or abas in the same line. Its like a we are the world concert march. Of World Leaders. But the most important thing that happened is that millions of people took to the streets in an atmosphere genuine fear and terror, right . In total defiance. This was an incredible citizen action. Forget the World Leaders for a second, two things that happened to me on sunday, citizens taking the streets saying we refuse to be scared, and then there was a bunch of World Leaders with super spotty records on press freedom trying to get their own agenda through. I think that is absolutely right. I think it is a large scale and visible graphic illustration of what will happen nationally in france and europe. You have this kind of unit. You have the popular sentiment for it. You have a mixture of fear and defiance that goes into taking a mark like that. Something might go off here but there are enough of us. There is enough of us that our odds are good and we stand for this and we wont be silenced, and we want to mourn, and reassert what we stand for, reclaim the public sphere. That is all mixed up in there. My favorite sign got circulated on twitter and elsewhere. It shows a frenchman carrying a sign saying something to the effect of i understand the contradictions and hypocrisy and im marching anyway. That is the sentiment yesterday. The morning after, we had three days last week where three were terrorized and laid siege. The morning after, you have 10,000 troops being deployed to the streets. It is a sign of a place terrified and unsure of their next moves. You have the french on the right waiting in the wings. You have fear. You have several small attacks on the Muslim Community. And by no means is the Muslim Community an islamist community. One of the things about the attack, the jihadis, in paris, were all french. They were not foreign forces. So you have real tension in a country that has been in political crisis for 20 years and that represents a lot of the fault lines across europe now. I think it will be very, very rough sailing. There is all kind of ceremony around this, and these people did something in the face of violence that i feel like a lot of people want to stand up for. Of course theyre opposed to this. My favorite quote on this is from a cartoonist that we vomit on the people who say now theyre our friends. You have to think of the saudi ambassador france is in that photo op three days or two days after the saudi government is lashing someone in the square for running a public blog critical of islam and the kingdom of saudi arabia. It is a 20week saga that we will have. Its disgusting. There are hypocrisies and intentions, and freedom of speech is limited in france anyway. You have the founder of the national front, he keeps getting fined for making remarks seen as revisionist about the holocaust, and he gets it from the right and they lamb bat of it from the left. And in the center is a weak and uncertain thing. The last president was the most unpopular president until now. And it colors all of this. Thank you so much, philip. Great to be here. All eyes on congress. Probably a good thing for the go that the worlds attention was elsewhere. A look at what you might have missed, ahead. The pm pain reliever.
