Tonight with some Breaking News out of texas, it has been almost 48 hours, in the man hunt for francisco are a case is still ongoing, our apace a has been accused of killing five of his neighbors, including a child, in a short time ago authorities offered an 80,000 Dollar Reward for information leading to his capture. Nbcs Priscilla Thompson has the latest there is now an 80,000 Dollar Reward being offered for anyone who can come forward with information about where this suspect might be, investigators say they have no leads right now, and they are looking for tips, they say they believe it is possible that the suspect has reached out to friends and try to contact people, so they are urging anyone, with any information to come forward. We heard the sheriff earlier today getting a motion as he described what the impact that this has had on him talking about the eight year old boy who was murdered, and saying that he will not rest until this suspect is brought to justice. We know that there are more than 250 officers on the ground in this area searching for that suspect, going door to door speaking to neighbors, searching homes and vehicles to try to get any potential leads that could lead to a break in this case this is a Multi Agency Man Hunt for this is considered, armed and dangerous. And weve had an opportunity to speak to people in the community here today about this, many of them saying that they hope that they catch him, and are concerned about all this, weve looked at some neighbors who are in shock saying they did not expect anything like this whatever happened here, and they are grappling with all of this as the suspect remains at large, and of course we know that all of this began when a neighbor went over and asked a suspect to stop shootings ar15 in the front yard. Shortly thereafter, police say the suspect went into that neighbors home, and began Firing Killing five people including that eight year old boy. And certainly so much pain and tragedy being felt here, there is a vigil held vigil to honor his life as students repaired to return to School Tomorrow and we do know there will be counselors on hand, and extra security at the schools back to you. Nbcs Priscilla Thompson thanks for that report, and now turning to a disturbing trend across america republican officials taking extreme measures to get what they want and by extreme we dont just mean controversial, we mean straightup authoritarianism. As brian class puts it some red states have become laboratories of authoritarianism, experimenting with the autocratic playbook in ways that could fill up to the federal government. Lets zoom in on the conservative chaos that were seeing a handful of states, just take florida for example, youve got governor ron desantis. He fired a democratic prosecutor who vowed not to prosecute those who seek or provide abortions. In neighboring georgia, State Republicans passed the that would remove electric prosecutors who they dont believe are doing enough to fight crime. In tennessee, we all witnessed republicans botched expulsion of two black democrats from the State Legislator for protesting alongside their constituents, many in stricter gun laws. These officials all representatives of the people who voted them into power, and republicans are doing everything they can to try and silence them. Both have since been reinstated in georgia in north dakota governor doug bergman signed into law the strictest abortion bans, making abortions illegal in most it since his unless it was caused by rape or incest in the first six weeks of pregnancy. That is earlier than most women even realize that they are pregnant. And here is the authoritarian twist, republicans passed that abortion ban one month after north Dakota Supreme Court blocked a different abortion ban in the state. In effect, north dakota republicans are trying to go around the Digicel System to get what they want. And this creeping, rightwing authoritarianism has now taken over montana. Republicans in that state have silenced state representative zoe zephyr, the states First Transit or lawmaker, after she told her colleagues that they have blood on their hands for supporting a bill that would ban gender affirming care. The gop majority voted to bar representatives of her from the house floor for the remainder of the legislative session, and then passed the bill she was fighting to stop. The governor of montana has cited into law. The right silence someone who represents a community that had been repeatedly under attack, and has been marginalized by republicans, someone who was attempting to defend and give a voice to the voiceless, precisely what you want from representatives. In states across the country republicans are silencing anyone who descends from their views, even if they are duly elected officials by other americans. Some are even trying to go around the courts and, that is not supposed to happen in our democracy. And sadly, it seems that republicans, they dont care if they abide by the rules of the democracy or not, so long as they get their way. Joining me now as Montana State representative, zoe zephyr. Representative zephyr, it is great to have you with us, its great for making time for us tonight. I want to start by asking you personally how you are doing are you taking all of this is, weve seen you continue to be hard at work, despite all of these measures that weve seen, just tell us what you are going through and how you are dealing with it all . You know, when you make a decision like i did, when you stand up for what is right, when you stand up for the first principles, it is easy to keep your head held high. And so i left the building after the censure with the head held high, i came in the next day ready to work on behalf of the people who elected me, so im feeling good, and i feel in this moment that despite the cruelty of the legislature despite, the undemocratic, or antidemocratic decisions that were made a feel a glimpse at what our state would be when people stand up and fight for our first values. When you said that lawmakers s would have blood on their hands for supporting gender forming caravans, you are not exaggerating. Numerous studies have shown how delaying this carrie kelly to increase risk of suicidal thoughts, you have talked about your personal conversations with families of trans teens who are struggling. What do you think its going to take for republicans to understand the dire damage they are inflicting on trans people . So, we know the statistics, we can tell the stories, i think there are two things that will shift the narrative. One is we see a growing frustration that people have with these policies, and those are in direct correlation with the number of people who know a trans person, we know when you know someones trans, when you see the joy that trans people have and you can come fully into ourselves, it makes that hate harder. It makes it harder to pass these kinds of laws, so that is step one. And step to, whatever think tanks are trying to pass these antitrans laws, they will see the results in their elections, because americans do not want to attack marginalized communities, that is no we should be doing. And you see, correct me if im wrong, you see a through line through all of these . You talked about how the expulsions in tennessee, your ban in montana, other attempts to censure marginalized lawmakers, they are all one and the same effort expand on that . Yeah, so we have seen tennessee, we have seen here, and i know in montana what has happened to me, when the Center Process was happening here, the members of the Native American caucus, the American Indian caucus in montana stood up. One of the first people to stand up for me and say, this through line, trans people or target right now in this moment in our state, but that through line has a long history through america and its politics. And to me what youre seeing is when marginalized communities, stand up and hold people accountable to the real harm that legislation does, it is not enough for the right to have the votes to pass it, they want silence. They dont want to be held accountable, they want to use whatever tools that are at their disposal to mandate that silence. You have said that you are first inspired to run for office because of a string of anti lgbtq legislations, so youre Holding Elected Office was a way to fight back on that front. How do you recalibrate that faye with this latest challenge . So, one, you always have to have hope that that change can happen. And you know that you are moving 150 different needles that legislature, just like every trans person, every ally who has a conversation around the importance, the impact of these bills, moves the needle with the people that they talk to. And so to me, its not so much of a recalibration, as it is a fortification of the hope, and the fire that was in the initially when a truck decided to run. You had House Judiciary Committee clerk jamie vance all convert quit her job on friday to join your staff, you also said courage is contagious, and you just talked about that a little bit. Despite the setbacks that you face and the constant struggled your community has faced over the years, do you still see hope in the fight moving forward . Absolutely. I see the hope, and i see it starting in our communities and taking root. There i went back to my community on friday after the legislative selection ended, and watched walks return to a rally, a prided termination rally. And it was beautiful to see what happens when Community Comes together, and you began to see the way in which we are in a moment where change is possible, and change will happen, if we had the Community Level dedicated sosa doing that work. Montana state representatives always, effort thank you so much for joining us tonight, greatly appreciate your time, and your insights. Thank you for having me. My pleasure. Blue states are fighting to protect your rights and nowhere is that more evident than in Washington State,. Governor jay inslee just this week signed a series of gun reforms into law. Gun reforms into law, excuse, me one that made washington the ar15s and dozens of other semiautomatic rifles. On the same day, republicans and iowa passed a sweeping antitrans bathroom law. Governor inslee was signing legislation to protect at a State Patients seeking gender affirming care and abortion care from being prosecuted. The Governor Also Announced his state was taking the unprecedented step of stockpiling a threeyear supply of the medication Abortion Pill metropolis dont. Calling it, quote, assurance policy as the future of the drug hangs in the balance. Joining me now is washington governor jay inslee. Governor inslee, its great to see you. Thank you for coming back on the show. Its obviously been busy. Elects talk about that. On a broad sense, talk about the work you and a legislator have been doing to shore up and protect the rights of your constituents. Broadly speaking, what do you see happening across the country compelling you to take measures . Listening to your depiction, what i can say, our state has been fighting aggressively. Creatively, most importantly, it successfully against this rightwing agenda. Its going across the country. Its interesting, listening to your depiction, i had kind of an insight. The three things you mentioned to protect the ribbons right of choice, common sense, gun safety legislation, stockpile at the press down, those things, they have something in common, they represent the vast majority of what americans think. Actually, red and blue states. What we are doing is standing up for democracy. Frankly, legislators are not protecting the right of choice the people voted to protect the right of choice the upper to keep weapons of war out of our schools, the vast majority of americans believe that is a common sense measure. So, what i would say, the things that we are fighting for in this regard or not just democratic principles. Theyre ones that the vast majority of americans believe. Im glad to be one of the governors and blue states who are moving to protect these rights. I am really proud of what our state has done. When you talk about the fact that the majority of american support these measures are wanting to ban Assault Rifles in our schools or classrooms, does that mean the through line between all of these means theres a broader attack on the democratic will of the people of this country . When you have states around the courts, when you have people refusing to ban Assault Rifles from classrooms, does that mean our democracy is under attack . Very much so. Democracy is under attack right now. Obviously, january six, the insurgency took place. There are broader and more persistent attacks on democracy. Packing the courts as trump did. The terrible gerrymandering thats going on. It denies people the legitimate right to choose their representatives. North carolina Supreme Court made an issue that basically will allow the republicans to gerrymander that beautiful state beyond recognition. The filibuster has prevented the majority will from moving for the u. S. Senate. The attack on Voting Rights by the Republican Party, its tried everywhere they can to suppress the number of people who actually vote, we protect that. We think voting by everyone, democrats, republicans, we should inspire. Republicans are afraid of the majority will. Thats why they believe and gerrymandering. Making it as difficult as possible to vote. And now the assault coming from the u. S. Supreme court on our rights of choice for obvious, i do think this is a matter of policies involved in safety. The policies involved in a womans right of choice. Its democracy itself that we ought to be fighting for right now. We are doing that big time. You were the first blue state to secure a stockpile of matt pierce stone, massachusetts has since followed suit in new york as well. Talk about the importance of protecting that access for your constituents, and what you did it. Well, i think we have to realize that the womens right to choice is going to be under attack now for years to come, by the Republican Party. And we have to be very forward thinking in creative. So what i did is department of corrections, there are a licensed pharmacy, to stockpile several years of mifepristone before the Texas Court Decision came down. And that is important, because now that we have the product in our state, no matter what happens at the Supreme Court level, and this is surprising to some people, even without fda approval, our state is eligible to distribute this very safe and very effective product for the last two decades, we will be able to distribute this even if the Supreme Court plays games with the fda approval. We will also cast a shield law that prevents other states like tex
