We spoke to him a little while ago. Heres what he had to say. Somebody said that there were shots fired and i initially did not believe it. And until i saw the gunman and he started shooting up the whole place. He was walking on a bench above my head where my head was underneath. When he shot me, i didnt move. I just let him shoot me. I was shot in the hip. The bullet traveled to my knee and lfs lodged in my knee. I was probably the luckiest thing, i was very fortunate. I was with dying people. Seven of us were shot. Just some terrifying stories coming out from witnesses and survivors in this attack, one report we havent been able to verify is that people were jumping into this very cold water, the night club backs up on to the bosphorus. We understand that jake raak from delaware is the only american believed to be wounded in this attack. No americans among the dead according to the state department. What are the chances that we, the public, know what the president elect knows . We know hes going to have an intelligence briefing at some point this week so we anticipate that brief will go happen and thenll give that information he has. The president elect is going to wait until the information is final, until he can make the clearest judgment on what to do in the best interest of this country. Hes not go to politicize intelligence and decide to shoot from the him before he has a complete picture of whats happening. This is setting up a potential fight with congress in the new year because you have democrats and republicans saying they dont doubt the intelligence. A number of them saying this is essentially an act of war by russia. You have senators like john mccain and Lindsey Graham saying they would support tougher action to be taken. I want to start with the attack in turkey. How surprised are you that isis is now claiming responsibility for this . Whats jumping out to you . Not surprised at all really. An attack in turkey is almost certainly going to be either a radical element of the Kurdish Movement or isis. And of course turkey has a little late to the game of course really joined the fight against isis. So sadly this is not surprising and i also sadly think this is probably not the last one of these that we see. It obviously wasnt the first either. Weve been here before. Is it that intelligence physicals are missing something . Is that it you cannot foresee these kind of attacks at all . Where is the missing link here . Im not sure i would think of it that way. A huge, organized conspiracy that involves lots of people on phones, getting emails, getting training but one individual, whether that individual is acting in turkey or in orlando or in San Bernardino is very, very hard to pick up, which is why these inspired attacks, and we dont know enough yet about the istanbul attack to know exactly what it was, but when some individual who is angry, who is alienated get inspired by something that they see online, sadly were going to have to get used to the fact that that is a very, very difficult assailant for our Intelligence Community and our Law Enforcement to prevent if theyre motivated enough. Have you as a member of the Intel Committee been briefed over what happened this weekend in turkey or no . We have not had a classified briefing on this. Congress is out of session until tomorrow. Most of us, at least, are not as briefed as people in the administration and Intelligence Community are on what we know. Does he have info that maybe you know or i dont know . As the president elect of the United States who is about to become president , i would hope hes more current than pretty much everybody out there. Of course the implication is that he knows something that perhaps could reverse the narrative, which the Intelligence Community has largely agreed on since october. The cia and fbi and Intelligence Community didnt come up with this idea two weeks ago, they blew the whistle on this in october. I suspect based on what i know and he may very well have more information, but i think as more and more information comes out, its going to be that much more interesting as we learn the breadth of this effort, who was involved and how many individual in the United States were actually pinged or attacked by the russian government. So then, congressman, is it your prediction, if you will, that come next week after the president elect gets this briefing that he might be singing a different tune on russia . Lets see. It doesnt bode well for policy on the future of intelligence. And the histrionics of the president elects transition, that does not bode well for the world in which we live.
