In the midst of this pandemic millions of people are out of work. Think about this. The United States of america people are lying up for miles in their automobiles waiting to get a maeal to put on the table to feed their family. Wondering if they have health insurance, wondering if theyll be okay. The job report shows more mediate relief for families and businesses now. Now. Not just to help them get to the other side of this painful crisis. But a larger purpose. But to avoid a broader Economic Cost out there due to long term the vast majority of leading economists show that thats what we need to do to revive the economy. Economic research. Especially with such low Interest Rates taking immediate action even with deficit finance is going to help with the economy, long term and reduce growth. And the on sit effect. Were also going to need tens of millions of dollars to help reopen our schools and reopen them safely. We need more direct relief flowing to families, Small Businesses, including finishing the job of getting people 2,000 in relief. 600 is simply not enough when you have to choose between paying rent, putting food on the table, keeping the lights on. I also hope that the democratic control of the house and the senate will raise the odds of prompt action and increasing the minimum wage. I long said we need to reward work and not just wealth in this country. Hard working people need at least 15 an hour minimum. No one should work as millions are doing today, 40 hours a week at a job, and still live below the poverty line. They are entitled to 15 minimum wage per hour. Main street Small Businesses are most in need. Mom and pop stores are the backbone of the economy. Theyre the glue that holds communities together. It holds them together. And today more than one in four Small Businesses are not open. At least 400,000 are closed for good. As the month goes by a third of black owned businesses, more than a quarter of native american owned businesses have less than one month of reserves. Millions of Small Businesses are staying alofloatafloat. Black and brown small owned businesses have less access to relief. Mom and pop shops are also the last in line. Big well connected businesses jumped to the front of the line and got more relief and got it faster. At every turn in this Trump Administration they undermined accountability. Weakening oversight. It is no surprise that tens of thousands of Ineligible Companies receive relief that they should not have, including from fraud and abuse. Si siefenning off support. They are providing Small Business support for workers. As i said from the beginning the need to make sure the relief and the future relief reaches everyone that needs it, they will start to flow quickly. But for what we have to control, need control over, i want to be very clear what my priorities are. For distributing this emergency aid swiftly and equitably.
