Reporter who dug up the story standing by live. Impeachable conduct. A republican congressman crossing party lines on the Mueller Report today. The president is now punching back. And the president s inner circle. I talk to someone whos been there. Omarosa talks impeachment, immigration, iran, and if she still thinks the president is a racist. I believe he wants to start a race war in this country. Well go oneonone with omarosa later. Were going to start with breaking news on President Trumps ties to a major investment bank. The New York Times reporting, antiMoney Laundering specialists at Deutsche Bank recommended in 2016 and 2017 that multiple transactions involving legal entities controlled by donald trump and his soninlaw, Jared Kushner, be reported to a federal financial crimes watchdog. Okay. So the transactions reportedly set off alerts designed to detect suspicious activity. Bank executives allegedly ignored their employees advice, never filing reports with the government. Lets bring in journalist that broke the news just moments ago, New York Times finance editor, david enwright. Tha david, thank you for being here with us. My pleasure. Okay. So, david, we saw the headline right there, highlight exactly what your reporting is finding. Well, first of all, donald trump is important to remember is the one of the biggest clients of Deutsche Bank. And Deutsche Bank is the only bank that will has done business in a consistent manner with donald trump for the past 20 years. And starting in 2016 and going on into 2017, a number of transactions that various trump accounts and kushner accounts at Deutsche Bank were involved with were flagged by the flank computerized antiMoney Laundering systems. When employees went to take a closer look and reviewed the records, investigated the transactions, they concluded based on what they had seen that these were potentially suspicious actions that should be reported to the federal government, a division that pursues financial crime. And the bank these reports go up through the chain of comman at the bank. Bank managers took a look at what their employees found, what they recommended and they overruled the employees. They decided that, no, these reports, this information did not need to go to the government and that was basically the end of the matter. David, you mentioned in your reporting here at least some of them involved money that was flowing back and forth with overseas entities or individuals which Bank Employees considered suspicious. What could you possibly think is happening here . Well, theres a little more detail, actually, that we can i can share with you which is that in the summer of 2016, one of the employees at the bank who reviewed transactions involving Kushner Companies, which is Jared Kushners family real estate company, saw that money was leaving his accounts in a number of transactions and was going to russian individuals. And that is for obvious reasons, i think, a pretty big red flag, and these employees are trained to look for transactions that have the characteristics of Money Laundering or other elicit activity and money going from a u. S. Bank account to russian Bank Accounts is, obviously, one such flag. And the employee who saw this, and she, first of all, raised these concerns about these particular transactions, raised a number of other concerns involving some involvement in trump transactions and complained so much that her bosses moved her out of the division where shed been seeing these problems and months later fired him from the bank. So there i mean, there are a lot of red flags here, not just for the kushner and trump transactions but for how Deutsche Bank handled these processes and handled their employees. And i should point out we have heard from Deutsche Bank and others, in your article, david, you mentioned there are two responses from the trump and Kushner Companies. A spokeswoman for the Trump Organization says that we have no knowledge of any flagged transactions with Deutsche Bank and currently has no operating accounts with Deutsche Bank. While a spokeswoman for Kushner Company says, any allegations regarding Deutsche Banks relationship with Kushner Companies which involved Money Laundering is completely made up and totally false. The New York Times, of course, continues to create dots that just dont connect. Does that give you pause at all . What do you make of that response . No. Neither of those responses give me a lot of pause. I mean, first of all, the you wouldnt expect the Trump Organization or the Kushner Companies to be aware of any of this to begin with because the banks banks generally wouldnt inform their customers about this. The curb any responkushner resp werent involved in Money Laundering is all well and good, we werent suggesting they were involved in mondey laundering. Deutsche bank has in some ways the most credible argument here which is a lot of times employees raise concerns about transactions that turn out to be unwarranted. Employees are trained to sometimes err on the side of caution and its normal for managers up the food chain to take a look at the transactions and sometimes conclude concerns were unwarranted and wont file the reports and i dont know if thats what happened here. That is what im hearing from people at the bank happened. But when you talk to the employees who were involved in this, they believe that the these the reports they wanted to file with the government were basically shot down because Bank Executives were so desperate and so eager to preserve a very lucrative relationship that the bank had with both the trump and kushner families. So it really depends whom you ask. Yeah. We popped up the statement there from the former Deutsche Bank antilaundering specialist who reveeed some of the transactions. She went on record for this story and says she was fired. To quash the concerns. Deutsche bank also responding, i should mention, you saw that statement, saying they have increased our antifinancial crimes staff and enhanced our controls in recent years. David, let me have you sum up for us all of this. You mentioned there are many banks that kind of do this stuff r , the anti you have employees raise red flags about antiMoney Laundering issues within banks but is this a haironfire moment or what . I mean, i dont think its a haironfire moment. Im bald so theres never a haironfire moment as far as im concerned. I feel your pain. I think this is the type of issue where congressional investigators who are already digging into the banks relationship with donald trump are going to see this as a pretty important story because theyre already looking for any evidence of improper activity, either with the bank or with their clients. And this clearly shows that at least at the very least, some of the banks own employees had very serious concerns about the way the bank was handling the trump and kushner accounts. And one of those employees was tammy mcfadden. Wheres her case right now . Well, shes fired from the bank. Yeah. She has complained to a number of federal regulators about the situation. Okay. And well see where that goes. All right. Our thanks to david enrich of the New York Times. Fascinating new reporting there on the president s ties to Deutsche Bank. David, thank you for being here on a sunday. Thank you. Lets bring in kevin cerri cerrillo, chief washington correspondent of bloomberg. Christine quinn, a former new York City Council speaker. Dana milbank, former columnist at the Washington Post. Thank you. Kevin, what do you make of this new reporting . House Financial Services chairman maxine waters, a democrat from california, kendis, is gaoing to have new stories to read over the next 24 hours. Shes already investigating Deutsche Bank. Pa there a host of different financial committees and subinvestigations ongoing in the democraticcontrolled house. Deutsche bank has been cooperating, right, kevin . Deutsche bank has been cooperating with these investigations but the question becomes, was there anything in place at Deutsche Bank that would have, you know, maybe prevented them from doing that . Is theres a lot of questions surrounding Deutsche Bank in particular about their relationship, not just with various organizations, Trump Organization, but also with a host of other different fronts. Theyve been under the fire for lack of a better term. Dana, weve heard the name, Deutsche Bank before, so many times as we mentioned. This is not the first time the president s relationship with the bank has set off some concern. Right. Yeah. It sort of shows why this effort to keep mueller away from testifying to shut down investigations, its just not going to work. So apparently, there are payments from kushner to russians here. Did mueller look at that . If he did, did he conclude there was nothing to it . All the more reason why you cant keep this man from being in front of congress. Now, its important to note that theres no allegation of wrongdoing. These things are flagged all the time. Heck, ive been flagged for this. Ive been orders of magnitude less in terms of my bank account. But but it does raise the question of, was this looked into . And if so, what did they find . And if not, theres a whole other avenue tha pursued that, you know, the Mueller Investigation was discreet on the russian connections, but theres so many other elements involving trump. Yeah. I understand your pain. I cant even get a payday loan on most days. Christine, let me ask you, turn to you about all of this. Why should Americans Care about this headline right here that were dealing with . Welsh i think americans should care and care deeply. Theres a pattern of questions about the kushners, particularly jared, and President Trump as it relates to money and transactions and particularly around connection to international entities. So this isnt this could be nothing, but americans should care because theres a whole lot of smoke. We cant confirm theres fire, but theres a whole lot of smoke, and also why is it always russia . You know, i these transactions as david was reporting involved money that was going to russia. Why always russia . Well, our president seems to have a deep love affair with putin and a desire to be connected and to the russians and make them happy. So, you know, when you see something when someone tells you youre a duck once, theyre wrong. Someone tells you twice. Three times youre a fish . You should start quacking and start wad dling. Thats what see in the russia situation. I want to pivot go another issue looming over the white house. Republican congressman from michigan, justin amash, becoming the first member of the party to call for trumps impeachment. How concerning is this for the administration . I talked with several sources just since this has happened connected to the white house, kendis. What they say, theyre brushing this off. Theyre shrugging their shoulders. Congressman amash has really positioned himself as someone who has made these types of bucking the party line, so to speak, before. Senator mitt romney, a republican from utah, saying on the sunday shows earlier this morning he does in the think impeachment is the way to go. And senator romney in terms of his criticism of President Trump has been outspoken at times. So i think that he really inherits the questioning of the President Trump in terms of the Republican Party, and folks arent taking congressman amashs statements that seriously in the sense that it would have a domino effect. Yeah, in the meantime, adam schiff, of course, as you know was also on the sunday talk shows. Throwing some cool water on the impeachment talk. Take a listen. Can an impeachment even be potentially successful in the senate . We see no signs of that. What may be pushing us in the direction of impeachment in any event has less to do with justin amash and more to do with the fact the administration is engaging in a maximum obstructionism campaign. In the meantime, does the statement, in the meantime, christine, does that kind of make put a lot of pressure on the democrats . For impeachment . Well, i think weve seen kind of two branches in the democratic party. Some of the more grassroots rank and file pushing for impeachment, weve seen the speaker and leadership, like chair schiff being a bit more cautious. I think neither adam schiff, certainly weve heard nancy pelosi the last couple weeks, neither of them have ruled out impeachment. But i think their message is smart. Lets take it step by step by step and everything is so clouded and triple redacted and under a cone of silence with this administration. There is so much we dont know and i think we need to find more of that information and really get transparency for the American Public. And dana, of course, last word to you, as you know, trump is scheduled to meet with House Democrats a little bit later on this week on wednesday. Oh, to be a fly on the walk. What are expectations . You never know whats going to happen. Look, they have a lot they can agree on in terms of budgetsetting legitimates in terms of infrastructure, but this has got to poison the water a whole lot more. I agree the amash decision doesnt make the impeachment likelihood any greater, but there is now a bipartisan call for it and thats got to get under the president s skin as a rhetorical device, at least, it raises the pressure on donald trump. Well, you mentioned my favorite week of the year. Infrastructure week. Again. You have a lot of favor weeks, kendis. It really is. They keep trying to make it stick, but step on themselves over and over. It just means a Dumpster Fire is going to happen this week. Our thanks to kevin and Christine Quinn and dana milbank. Thank you, guys. Thanks, kendis. Thank you. Up next on msnbc, joe biden basking in the afterglow of a Successful Campaign rally in philadelphia talking unity and positivity.
