History of our country. Americas so true. Oh, boy. The president dismisses the moment saying the line was meant to get a laugh. But is it actually just a selffulfilling prophecy . We begin this morning, we are 25 hours away from what could be the most fascinating, uncomfortable and Awkward Senate hearing, an important one, in recent history. Do not forget, Brett Kavanaughs lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court is likely hanging in the balance. And i have a fantastic team here this morning to break all of it down. But first, heres where we stand. Overnight we learned that the Senate Judiciary committee scheduled a 9 30 a. M. Vote on friday on kavanaughs confirmation. He will have to get through tomorrows hearing first. And while the leadership is projecting confidence, many republicans are waiting to hear from kavanaugh and his accuser, dr. Christine blasey ford before they make their final decision. Well, id say theres actually a large number of republicans that will pay a large number. I know the media keeps characterizing, you know, three or four people. But its a large number of them that want to see firsthand the accusation and the rebuttal. And again, well be looking at it in a very sober way. So i think its much larger than you think. A large number are listening. The focus has been on senators like corker, jeff flake, Lisa Murkowski and susan collins, but republicans like marco rubio, jon kyl and shelly marcapito are withholding judgment until after tomorrow. Senator john kennedy told morning joe he could be persuaded to vote know depending on what he hears tomorrow. If just two, two of those oppose kavanaugh, he will not be confirmed. As things stand we are only going to hear from judge kavanaugh and dr. Christine blasey ford. Ford is the one who says kavanaugh tried to sexually assault her at a party when they were just teenagers. Overnight usa today got a hold of statements sent to the Judiciary Committee by four different people including fords husband who backed up her story. In each case they say ford confided in them, that she had been attacked, and identified kavanaugh as her attacker. But we should point out that the earliest discussion about it was in 2012, which was 30 years after the initial incident. Kavanaugh has flatly denied all of these accusations. In the case of kavanaughs second accuser, deborah ramirez, the president himself came out swinging yesterday, saying her claims, that kavanaugh exposed himself while they were classmates at yale, just arent true. And she said well it might not be him and there were gaps and she said she was totally inebriated, and she was all messed up, and she doesnt know it was him, but it might have been him, oh, gee, lets not make him a Supreme Court judge because of that. Im just going to take a deep breath on that one. Part of kavanaughs defense has been that he wasnt a heavy drinker as portrayed in the womens allegations, but kavanaughs freshman year roommate has now released a statement contradicting that saying, quote, although brett was normally reserved, he was a notably heavy drinker, even by the standards at the time. And he became aggressive and belligerent when he was drunk. The man who was also friends with ramirez says he did not witness the incident she described but believes kavanaugh was capable of doing it. Ramirez is not set to testify tomorrow. Republicans say they have reached out to her attorneys but theyve gotten nowhere. Heres what makes no sense. Ramirezs Attorney Says its the other way around. They wont talk to us. I mean, the Minority Party spoke to us for the very first time tonight and the Majority Party wouldnt speak to us. So we dont know what theyre willing to do. The demand that they keep making of us is give us every piece of information that you have now, and then we can talk about scheduling a phone call. Thats just not, you know, the kind of partisan game playing that, you know, our client deserves. Thats not fair to her. Someones not telling the truth. And there is one more piece to all of this. It turns out republicans are bringing in a woman to help with the questioning tomorrow. Chairman Chuck Grassley announced the hiring of Rachel Mitchell whos worked on sex crimes for decades in the state of arizona. She brings tons of experience and helps the republican men on the Judiciary Committee avoid the optics that come with questioning ford and kavanaugh. I dont know about that. Grassley explained the move by saying weve done it because we want to. Depoliticize the whole process. Like the democrats politicized the whole anita hill thing. The whole point is to create an environment where it is what dr. Ford has asked for, for it to be professional and for it not to be a circus. We want to start on capitol hill this morning because there is so much we have to get through. That is where Garrett Haake is standing by. Do we have a better idea of where republicans are standing thus far on kavanaugh . It was a couple days ago Lindsey Graham was saying his mind was made up. We heard from kennedy this morning, saying he could be a no, that could be a shift. Republicans have settled into two camps here, those like Lindsey Graham, richard burr put out a statement hes saying hes definitely supporting kavanaugh. Mitch mcconnell saying they will get a vote on Brett Kavanaugh. One camp has absolutely made up their minds. And then theres another camp that is much hard er to measure of those who appear to be persuadable or open to what dr. Ford has to say and possibly changing their minds. John kennedy was asked about this on morning joe. Heres what he had to say. Are you open to the possibility, senator, that if by the end of the day tomorrow, based on what you hear from dr. Ford, you could be a no vote on judge kavanaugh . Well, of course. Its the purpose of the hearing. But he told me, categorically, unconditionally, did not happen. I believe him. But that doesnt mean that i could not be persuaded otherwise. I really want to hear from dr. Ford and accord her the respect and the due process that she deserves as well as judge kavanaugh. I want to treat dr. Ford as if she were my daughter. But i want to treat judge kavanaugh as if he were my son. Stephanie, i talk to john kennedy every single day up here. I think it is extraordinarily unlikely he would vote no on Brett Kavanaugh. Not impossible. That would suggest to me that the kavanaugh nomination were going down in flames if he were to vote no. The universal potential no votes is much larger than weve been talking about. People have focused on corker and flake because theyre retiring and collins and murkowski who have proven theyre willing to vote no when their backs are against the wall. I do think, there are some more republican senators who have been very, very quiet about the kavanaugh nomination who want to see how thursday goes. And dont want to be put in a position to be forced to vote on somebody who theyre just not comfortable with. And these are folks who dont necessarily talk to the cameras every day. So i do get the sense that there is this undercurrent of people who will be watching very, very closely on thursday. And those republicans will get to pick the next person if its not Brett Kavanaugh. We should remind our audience of that. I want to bring in Nbcs Kristen Welker live at the white house. Publicly the administration is saying theyre behind Brett Kavanaugh. Inside the white house, do you think thats the same thing . I think theyre still very much behind Brett Kavanaugh, steph, because this is the president s nominee and they have long seen this as a political win ahead of the midterms. Of course the Supreme Court is one of the big issues that President Trump ran on. At the same time, steph, look, ive been talking to folks here inside the white house. And just within the president s inner circle who say in the wake of that interview he did with fox news, theyre a little concerned about the firmness with which he defended himself during that interview, by and large they thought it was a good thing. Hes trying to get out in front of these headlines, go on offense. At the same time, i think during that hearing on thursday theyre hoping to see someone who is sort of more passionate in his defense. Now, President Trump has made no mistake about where he stands. He has firmly dug in on all of this. And, of course, taken aim at the second accuser deborah ramirez. And really tried to cast this as a political hit job. Take a listen to what he had to say at the u. N. Yesterday. It cannot be allowed to happen. And to them, the democrats are playing a con game, con, a con game. They know its a con game. They know hes high quality. And they wink at each other. Theyre winking. They know its a con game. And steph, if you look at the president s schedule today, it is a busy one. He has a series of bilateral meetings with other World Leaders throughout the day and of course he holds that big News Conference at 5 00 later today. So were going to be watching very closely and undoubtedly, i think that the bulk of the questions are going to resolvol around this. Its a critical issue for the country and the president s platform. Im going to be thinking Brett Kavanaugh does not want the president to be asked those questions. My panel, heidi przybyla, and brett stevens, an oped columnist for the new york times. Heidi, bob corker says theres a large number of republicans still undecided on kavanaugh. Weve heard republicans talk a big game over the last year and when it comes to vote they hop right in line. Steph, i think were talking about semantics. I reached out to one of those republicans last night. I will not name which republican it is. How about what he rhymes with . Has been identified as a potentially on the fence vote. The press person, top press person to this senator told me this senator is a lean yes. It would depend on something dramatic happening in the hearing. I do think while there is a separate universe that is not a firm, firm yes, they are a lean yes. Its going to take something significant happening in that hearing. We are seeing that there are wild cards here, steph, including these sworn affidavits now today that came out. The way this hearing has been set up has been to ensure that there would be no possibility for validators to come in person and provide corroboration to dr. Ford. But now shes showing up with these sworn affidavits. They are very specific, provide specific scenes going back to 2011, 2013. They all say that dr. Ford claimed she was sexually assaulted by a federal judge. So she will show up with some corroboration. But lets make something clear, these are sworn affidavits from people who she told in the last few years. Correct. Not from students who were at the party where she claims this happened, correct . Correct, yes. And the one person she shared her story before judge kavanaugh was anywhere on the scene, before his name was talked about, before donald trump was elected. Well, the one person who was in the room, supposedly, according to ford, is Brett Kavanaughs friend mark judge who wrote a book about the two of them and their heavy drinking in high school. And i cannot figure out why theyre not calling him to testify. Brett, john kennedy, we showed a bit of him earlier on morning joe, hes a member of the Senate Judiciary committee, he said that all sides could do a little better here. Take a listen. This is no country, in my judgment, for creepy old men, or young men, or middleaged men, but this is also no country to ignore due process. I think youre morally tainted if you dont take the accuser seriously, if you dont afford the accuser and the accused an attentive ear, fairness and due process. Is this due process . Well, its not legal due process. But there is such a thing, or i think there ought to be such a thing as moral due process. Theres an idea of the benefit of the doubt, an idea that we should listen with an open mind to both sides. I mean, i actually think the senator, i hope hes sincere. If he is, he expressed exactly the right the right approach. That ought to work, by the way, on both sides of the aisle. Theres no liberals have every good reason to care as much about the rights of the accused as conservatives do because the cases are going to change. One day its going to be a liberal nominee facing exactly that same or possibly facing the same circumstance. So i think the best thing that people can do is just simply listen to the testimony. I have to interrupt you just for one moment. I want to go to President Trump whos taking questions from reporters at the u. N. I believe theyre talking venezuela. The inspectors to check can you tell us more about that . Chairman kim wants good things to happen for north korea. And good things are happening with respect to north korea. And its going to be great for which i remember k chairman kim and great for the people of north korea. Thats what were all about. Prime minister awe bay today . A very Good Relationship with, as you know, with Prime Minister abe. He was in my apartment just the other day in trump tower. We had a very long couple of hour discussion. He loves his country. He had a tremendous victory in the election, as you know, which i was very happy about. I dont know if youre supposed to endorse somebody or not, but i endorsed him, and i will endorse him. Hes a great gentleman, a great man. And a person whos a great leader for japan. We have other things to discuss. I think more than anything else well be discussing trade. Where will you meet with ill be meeting with chairman kim in the very near future. It will be announced. In fact, were having a press Conference Today and well Start Talking about that. But well be announcing where and when in the very near future. Mr. President , you said yesterday that the first lady who traveled is she considering going they will announce it in about an hour. You should be there. Shes got a press conference in one hour. You should be there. Theyre announcing shes going to four countries in africa. Theyll be announcing it in about an hour exactly. Shes going to be making the announcement, which is much more exciting than when i make an announcement. So shell be announcing shes making a big trip to africa. You both love africa. Africas so beautiful, the most beautiful part of the world in many ways. Just let me just say that shes having a News Conference in a short period of time. Shell be announcing exactly where shes going. And i hope youre going to be there. Youll see in about an hour. [ inaudible question ] well, i think the senate, the republicans could not be nicer in the way theyre handling this. They could have pushed it through two and a half weeks ago and you wouldnt be talking about it right now, which is frankly what i would have preferred. But they didnt do that. The republicans could not be nicer, could not be more respectful to the process. Certainly could not be more respectful to the woman. And im okay with that. I think i might have pushed it forward a lot faster because ill tell you what, i know, i know this particular man, judge kavanaugh. Hes outstanding. You dont find people like this. Hes outstanding. Hes a gem. Hes an absolute gem, and hes been treated very unfairly by the democrats who are playing a con game. They know what theyre doing. Its a con. They go into a back room and they talk with each other, and they laugh at what theyre getting away with. Its a con game and thats what they play. And thats about the only thing they do well. Thank you very much. Well, the president speaking at the u. N. About a number of things. Eddie, to you, before we were talking about kennedy saying due process, both sides are due. Do you think thats whats happening right now . No. I think we would have to really unpack what that means. I think due process would be to take seriously the claim and to take seriously the claim would involve, i think, a third party investigation. They could have easily invited the fbi to investigate the claims, to take it out of the hyperpartisan environment its in so that we could, in fact, assess the voracity of what dr. Blasey ford has put forth, put mark judge under oath to ask him to make the claim he has made under oath, or to the fbi. All of that would be important. See, in the context of the u. S. , with regards to Sexual Assault cases and attempted rape cases, it makes sense because experience leads many women to believe that their claims arent taken seriously. So it becomes it almost challenges common sense for you to then assume that a woman who for the most part grows up in an environment where her body is taken for granted, where men could do whatever they want to do, for you to assume that shes going to be treated fairly. So it seems to me that the committee needed to do everything in its power to actually play out, to actually how can we put this, flesh out clearly what they mean by take the claim seriously, what they meant by due process, and its more than just simply let her have her day. Because Lindsey Graham said it clearly, let her speak and then im going to do what i want to do. Let her speak. Im going to do what i want to do. Donald trump just said it clearly. If it was left up to me we would have pushed it through two weeks ago. That is whats stunning. If donald trump, Lindsey Graham, their comments are not helping Brett Kavanaugh. I agree with every word he said. If the media is taking this too far, if the media is running Brett Kavanaugh over before we know everything, why wouldnt Awkward Senate hearing, an important one, in recent history. If the media is taking this too far, if the media is running Brett Kavanaugh over before we know everything, why wouldnt Brett Kavanaugh insist upon, please do an fbi investigation, if i am this altar boy i say i am, please bring mark judge in. Thats what i cant understand. That would have been the smart play. If that would have been the smart play, why isnt he asking for it . I mean, the smart play politically for him to do that. I think the fbi should be called in. The george h. W. Bush did that during the Thomas Anita Hill case. Bret, morally, when fox news asked Brett Kavanaugh and his wife, should there be an fbi investigation, they said to his wife, first, ashley, and what happened, Brett Kavanaugh cut her off, didnt let it raises credibility and wanting to have the story fleshed out, unfortunate metaphor. Thats exactly right. And thats a reason why people should treat his statements, his testimony with some skepticism. Okay. Lets just talk briefly, eddie, about this idea, this notion, now were bringing in a sex crimes prosecutor to ask the questions. If you want to say, hey, lets bring in an expert, they made it clear a week ago, lets peddle in a girl because thats more sensitive. To me that makes absolutely no sense, if theyre worried about the optics, worry about who youve elected year after year who sits on the Judiciary Committee. Is it going to make that much of a positive impact . Its an insult to dr. Ford. Its also an indication that this is all political theater and that the performance of judge kavanaugh, the performance of dr. Blasey ford matters. Its like that moment when fannie lou hammer is testifying, and the president sees it and has to cut it off because its so powerful and compelling. If dr. Blasey ford is that compelling, maybe she could change someones mind as if the theater is all that matters as opposed to content. In terms of political theater, now were talking about it today. This mistake republicans would be making, if they hasnt made this move, wed carry on in our business tomorrow. Maybe wed say they conducted themselves very well. Now we cant possibly handle it. What trump is doing today, arriving back at the united nations. And any second hes going to be meeting with someone he knows and likes pretty well, israeli Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu. I want to remind you of an assertion the president has long claimed when it comes to america on the world stage. Watch this. The world is laughing at us. Were the laughing stock of the world. The whole world is laughing at the United States, and they have been for years. And by the way, the world is laughing at us. And then this happened. In less than two years my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country. Ameri americas so true. Didnt expect that reaction. But thats okay. Oh, goodness. David rathcop, are we overplaying this, this is clearly a foolish moment for the president. Is it a big deal . Well, i dont think were overplaying it. I dont think ive ever seen an american president as humiliated as perhaps when george bush threw up in the japanese Prime Ministers lap. But its been a long time since then. But, you know, i think they wouldnt have laughed if trumps image was such that they were respectful of him. And i travel around the world, you travel around the world, we see other people, trump is a laughing stock not just because of the bra vvado, the nonsense was spouting yesterday, but because its part of a longer pattern. I would also say, though, that, you know, the laugh is a good thing to focus on. Its interesting. It makes good television. But when they sat in stoney silence was when he started talking about the u. N. , and attacking it. Bin go. When he started attacking globalization, saying im against globalization, im for patriotism, which was this nonsense line cooked up for him by stephen miller. At that point they realized here you have an american president attacking the International System that the United States has spent the past 75 years building. And that this american president may not have had the kind of accomplishments that trump was touting, you know, at the very beginning of the speech, but he has done more to dismantle the International System than any american president ever out of the paris accords, out of tpp, out of the iran deal, out of the u. N. Human rights agency, stopped funding for the palestinians and so forth. And it was that attack that was the real news of the speech yesterday. Well, you know, one of the aspects here is that other american president s, bush, ronald reagan, gerald ford, have had good reasons to criticize the united nations. It is a profoundly flawed institution. Its an institution that has often given itself over to almost a pervasive anti semitism. Its Peace Keeping missions have been disastrous. But these same past president s strengthened other arenas of national life, doubled down on nato, believed in free trade, believed in the world trade organization. So it wasnt an attack on the International System. It was just an attack on the flaws of this particular body. What distinguishes trump and what makes him so dangerous is that this is really a return to the kind of isolationism, that characterized American Foreign policy in the 30s and 40s, this pretense you can turn your back on the world and the world will leave you alone. Thats dangerous because America First is america alone. Right there, when h. R. Mcmaster and gary cohn worked with the president , they were the ones who continued to push this idea. America first is not america alone. Here we are, President Trump is without h. R. Mcmaster, without gary cohn and hes up there on that stage clearly america alone. He doesnt believe in the post world war ii consensus. Its clear. And we need to understand what does he believe instead . And what he believes instead is precisely what bret just said. The phrase is empty. I dont believe in globalization, i believe in patriotism. Patriotism is a synonym for nationalism. Nationalism has presented an extraordinary threat, the carnage of european nationalism across the world, right . So part of what we need to just simply say, complete, without qualification, is the man does not believe in the post world war ii consensus. Take it a step further. Who did he attack . He attacked germany. Exactly. He went after our allies. Shortly after his speech macron said we shouldnt do trade deals with countries that arent in the paris accord. Theres only one country not in the paris accord, its us. So macron went after us. You know, he is he did not say, by the way, and i thought this was an important aspect of his speech, anything, a word about vladimir putin. He did not say anything about the country that attacked the United States directly, that murdered people and poisoned people in the uk and in germany, that had gone into ukraine, that was supporting assad, that was supporting iran. This is the center of a lot of u. S. Foreign policy, and he was completely silent on the subject. One might think a great patriot would do just that. Coming up, bill cosby is sentenced to three to ten years behind bars. The prosecutor who helped secure his conviction joins me next. Geico has over 75 years of great savings and service. This morning, disgraced actor and comedian is waking up in jail a day after being sentenced months after he was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand. A judge ruled he is a sexually violent predator. Kristin gibbons was the prosecutor in the case. You were the one who went to Andrea Constand three years ago. Has justice been served . Did you think this day would happen when you started working on all of this . Especially given what a superstar, an icon bill cosby was. Its interesting you ask that question. When we decided to charge bill cosby and when i spoke with andrea and met her and saw how steadfast she was, how brave and courageous she was, i knew regardless of the result justice would be served. Her message would be set forth, her story would be told and she would be able to confront bill cosby as a sexual predator he was when he sexually assaulted and drugged her that night. Did the me too movement have an impact on this trial . Well, during the voir dire process all of the jurors were asked if they could remain fair and impartial and put anything that they may have heard about the me too movement to the side. I do believe they were able to do that. But in terms of the support, and the advocacy that she received, Andrea Constand received in the publics eye, i think it had definitely a Significant Impact in that regard. Do you think its going to have an impact on women speaking out, moving forward . I say this because i know its a completely different situation. But here we are, with the Supreme Court Justice Nominee Brett Kavanaugh who has accusers and our own president is repeating these narratives of i dont know, were people drunk, it was a long time ago, where were her loving parents, which is the opposite of what me too is trying to do. Absolutely. I think the me too movement is dynamic. And even though there are going to be some people who are going to continue to assassinate the character of these sexually these Sexual Assault victims and survivors. More than some people. Some of the most powerful people in the world. Absolutely. Thats going to remain. But you know what, now these survivors have a community. And they have support. And with the conviction of bill cosby they now know that justice can be served. That justice can prevail. And again, i know theyre very different situations. But tomorrow when Brett Kavanaughs accuser dr. Christine blasey ford is going to be questioned theyre now bringing in a sex crimes specialist, a woman who has decades of experience. Whats your opinion on that . You know, as accomplished as a prosecutor can be, as much experience as they have, theres nothing to be said about the constraints that time, when you want to really go through and do a thorough investigation to determine the facts, to determine the truth of what happened, you need time. You need time. And if you are constrained, and youre not able to live up to your accomplishments and actually do the job that youre out to see, then it doesnt matter how much accomplishments you have behind your belt. Then is due process taking place here, seeing that it is Just Christine ford, and it is just Brett Kavanaugh, were not subpoenaing mark judge, there is no fbi investigation, can she actually do her job here . You know, due process is the opportunity to be heard. And i admire dr. Ford given this constrained process coming forward under these constraints, being scrutinized in the public eye and also in the for the Judiciary Committee, excuse me. Can due process occur under these settings. Its going to remain to be seen. But what i hope is that the prosecutor has the ability to kind of go through all of the facts and be able to go through a thorough investigation which i dont believe shes going to be able to with this time frame. It remains to be seen. But i know this, well all be watching. Thank you so much for joining me this morning. Thank you so much. Our own Mika Brzezinski will be here. Where President Trump is speaking. We are with you, we are with israel 100 . Thank you. Mr. President , when are you going to present your peace plan . Excuse me. Mr. President , donald, thank you, and this is a many fold thank you. First, thank you for your strong words yesterday in the General Assembly against the corrupt terrorist regime in iran. You back up your strong words with strong actions. And i think the fact that youve brought american sanctions to bear has cut the cash machine of iran and its campaign of carnage and conquest in the middle east. And we who live in the middle east, israelis and arabs want to thank you especially. I want to thank you for the extraordinary support youve shown for israel and the building. No one has backed up israel like you do. We appreciate it. After the American Embassy has been moved to jerusalem, youve changed history and youve touched our hearts. And fourth and last, i want to say how much i appreciate your robust defense of israels right of selfdefense, which weve just expressed, i think everybody should understand that israel will continue to do what is necessary to defend ourselves against iranian aggression in syria, lebanon, anywhere else. And i want to say also that we have no doubt that as we do so well enjoy the support of President Donald Trump and the United States of america. I think, and i say this objectively, that the American Israeli Alliance has never been stronger. Its stronger than ever before under your leadership. And i look forward to working with you and your team to advance our common interests, security, prosperity, and peace with israels neighbors and for the region. And we can do it with you. Mr. President present your peace plan . President trump speaking there at the u. N. With benjamin netanyahu. Weve got to move on to something i am keen to discuss. In the past year a lot has changed for women in hollywood, politics the workplace and across the country. Is it enough . The me too movement empowering women in Many Industries to share their experiences of Sexual Harassment and take a stand eagainst inequality. A lot has changed. Our dear friend Mika Brzezinski decided to rerelease know your value. This time shes incorporating what she has learned from the me too movement and the trump presidency. Cohost of morning joe, Mika Brzezinski joins me now. Thank you for writing the book in 2011. Thank you for bringing it up, bringing it back now. Why now . Well, a lot of reasons. Number one, were in the age of trump. So many women are stepping up, so many women are fed up and jumping in. I think they need the tools, the tips, the strategies sthat have been so successful. When the book first came out i was staggered by how many women came up to me since the book first came out every day everywhere i go, i read your book, i got a raise. Women from all walks of life, i read your book, i got a raise. I thought i was sharing a few little stories about, you know, ways that we can improve, whatnot to do, what to do. I had no idea how universal the theme was. Successful women, getting there, despite these issues, or women who just dont know how to get in the door, what to do, what to look like, what to feel like, how to do it. And it is actually, once you get there, so simple. And so thats what i love about it because i love to watch the lightbulb go off in womens heads and see them take ownership of this. But now, more than ever, we need to own our voices, we need to use them and then we these to handle what comes after. Mika, where is the disconnect . You wrote this in 2011. You changed womens lives. Yet were going to watch Christine Ford testify tomorrow and theyve had to trot in a female special prosecutor. An assistant. Theyre worried about the way it looks. They were not worried about continuing to elect those same men. Yeah. We have the president saying why didnt the loving parents get involved . They must have been drunk. Thats not that shows, to me, zero progress. The president s disgusting comments about one of the accusers i think speaks for itself. I think its disgusting. And i think most women too do. I dont know why some allow it in this president. But in terms of Republican Leaders its really an incredible moment because this is an opportunity to, i think, appeal to the female vote, especially with the midterms coming up. Why wouldnt you say i want to hear her story . Why wouldnt you say i want to respect her story and understand it and i want to get the facts . Why wouldnt you ask for an fbi investigation at this point if you have nothing to hide . The only thing you can do is actually win politically by having these women be heard. Well, you know whose value was not heard two nights ago . Brett kavanaughs wife when she was asked in that fox interview should there be an investigation to clear your familys name . And what happened . Her husband cut her off and answered the question. I see it differently. What i saw was and i dont know her. But i feel really badly for her. Absolutely. No matter what the situation. And his daughters. And his daughters. And this is a family that potentially could be being smeared and convicted unfairly. We dont know. So i think both sides need to be treated with great respect. But in that moment i felt something personal, i saw her just kind of look at him. And that look might have said help me, i dont know what to say. She doesnt do this for a living. This is not her job. Shes not a federal judge and i think the question might have been too much for her, might have been something she doesnt want to answer. I dont have a judgment on that. I dont think he jumped in to cut her off. Look at it again. Theres a lot more going on, i think, in just one look between them than potentially what people are saying. Do you think me too has made a difference . I know your book yes. Has made a difference in so many womens lives professionally. Youre bringing it back now. We talk about me too so often. Do you think i think the tips and strategies in this book respond to me too perfectly. Its like, you know, we were talking about having your voice, not apologizing, stepping up for yourself, learning to press reset, digging deep, finding your passion, learning to what the physicality of communicating feels like, what your Voice Control should be, exactly how you want to connect when youre trying to make a point, that has everything to do with me too. If youre in a situation that perhaps you might be uncomfortable with, what women have done in the past is hauled it in hold it for years, suffer, how about in realtime . How about pushing back in realtime and having the ability, the stage and the welcome from the rest of the world to do it in realtime and know that there will not be anything but consequences for the person who might be harassing you . Right now we feel ramifications just if someone starts to harass us. What about being able to say, what are you doing . Why what is this . This is not me. But i want to have a meeting, just sit down, lets continue. How about having that voice in realtime . And being able to press reset in realtime. These are the things in this book that you can do. It doesnt fix anything about the other side. And where they need to improve. And i think in the age of me too, men are facing a reckoning where they realize behavior that happened ten, 20, 30 years ago it doesnt fly today. Its because we have voices. So lets use them. And weve got your back, ladies. Mika, thank you so, so much. I appreciate it. Go out there and get this book. You need it. Coming up, six weeks away from the midterms between the kavanaugh confirmation, the russia investigation, the economy. What matters in the voting booth . We are just 41 days away from the midterms and, as possible firings, hiring and confirmation votes dominate the conversation in washington, what is dominating the conversation throughout the rest of the country . We sent jacob to find out what matters to voters in key tossup districts like the 23rd district in texas. Jacob joins me. Jacob, you were in texas, not me. It is my belief that all the issues we talk about every day here are kind of fringe issues when it comes to voting and people vote based on the economy. Critically important to the democracy and health of the country, viewers might be surprised to know what we talk about day in and day out every day are not the things voters in the country are going to the polls about. Take a look. Reporter this is a cucumber, covered in chile. It is delicious. We came to find out what matters here. This is part of the community that has been underserved, underrepresented. Reporter what do people want . Clothing, backpacks. Look at the foods. Reporter these are awesome. Hey, hows it going. Gina. Reporter what matters to you, other than child sized cowboy boots . Community. Reporter do you always vote . Not always. Reporter i heard not many people vote. Business and kids, it gets hectic. Reporter what is the thing that gets you fired up to vote. To make a difference, especially for the people in the lower income bracket and so forth. Reporter when you say our people hispanics. Reporter this is largely latino. They talk community, how we take care of one another, how we look after one another and invest in the future. Reporter we are on our way to the corner by san antonio where 70 of the voters live to one of the most remote parts, crystal city where well meet the congressman, will herd. Nice to see you. Texas is larger than 26 states, roughly the size of the state of georgia. Reporter hes doing 38 stops, 32 town halls, 14 are dairy queens. Do you have a preferred dairy queen . On my own, a medium cone. Im a purist. You have to come join us. Come on. Reporter what is your question . We are one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. I think you know that. Yep. My concern is the streets. Potholes. Good education for our kids. Reporter why did nobody bring up the Supreme Court or russia . The issues being brought up are not only important issues, but affect us immediately here. These are the things we know are going to make a difference tomorrow. What most elected officials and the media cover are not the same conversations you have down here locally. Reporter the other thing nobody brought up with will herd is the southwest border and his district has a third of it. We headed down there to eagle pass to see if we could figure out why. We are on the mexico side of the border wall, but in the u. S. Its no mans land. We just met frank, who works construction, has time off, playing golf on the border. Thats mexico, the rio brand. If you hit the ball hard enough, it goes to mexico. Let her rip, frank. Not quite to mexico, but not bad. What are the challenges, being a Small Business guy . I got people i have to pay. I have material i have to pay. Reporter you need a Strong Economy for your business to be doing well . To be thriving, yeah, exactly. Reporter this is the rio grande . Yeah. When you are out here golfing, are you thinking about, you know, all the politics people talk about with the border . No. Reporter what do you think about . Lets go to work. What time is tee time. Go golf. Never golfed under the bridge to mexico before. What i will say about these folks and folks across the country is not that people dont care about russia or Brett Kavanaugh or the border, its not the first thing they bring up. Every single time, they bring up the economy, jobs and their lives, even if they voted for donald trump. Its the hierarchy of needs. They cant think of that until their basic needs have been met. Swhi voter turnout so low. If people are living in a rut, get out there and vote. Everybody is saying texas will flip to blue. Texas is a young state, the third youngest state in the country and young people, as a group, dont vote in the numbers that older folks do and the surge in latino population, eventually will flip it from red to blue. It doesnt look like the numbers are there, yet. Jones and orourke hope it happen sooner rather than later. He gets a huge amount of national attention, celebrities back him. Its voter turnout that he needs in a place that doesnt have it. Whats going to change that . Orourke led one of the big rallies at the tent camp where the Trump Administration was housing the migrant kids. People that showed up were from out of town. The National Issues are not the things people care about in a district like that. Tough get them to vote locally. Jacob, thank you so much. Coming up, 24 hours away from the fordBrett Kavanaugh hearing. A prosecutor will ask questions on behalf of the republicans. Who is this woman and what can we expect to hear from her tomorrow .
