We have the best medical his social distancing. Equipment. But there are a lot of people we have the best medicines. Who looked at that video last all developed recently. I stood out front. Night and thought, this is the president signaling bad behavior i led. To americans as were still in nobody thats a leader would not the midst of a pandemic thats do what i did. And i know theres a risk. Theres a danger, but thats killing american after american. Okay. Robert, we still dont have and now im better and maybe im answers to critically important questions like when the immune. I dont know. President last tested negative. But dont let it dominate your lives. Of course, we can and should politically, why is this so be afraid without it dominating important . Well, look, i think its our lives. Going to be important for a lot
President Trump
sent that very of things, not the least of message on a day when the number of americans who have died from which theres supposed to be a debate between joe biden and covid is above 211,000. Donald trump and we dont know roughly the entire population of when this negative test was. We dont really even know when

I have no doubt hes going to people that we know of tied directly to the white house or access his twitter account, but the

Former new jersey governor chris three briefings weve seen from the doctors, its obvious that christie. And remember, the president s what donald trump wants the own doctor, sean conley, has

We still know that many havent he can continue to conduct the been contacted who were in countrys business. Cleveland, minnesota, and new but there are concerns among jersey, places where the president was throughout last people who are in the white week around hundreds and house who say they, one, are not hundreds of people. Any other first world country getting a lot of information about who is infected and being has responded to covid issues in a completely different manner notified in terms of contact than this. Yeah, steph. Tracing and generally fearful
Contact Tracing
is still a for their safety. We have statements from the really big concern, particularly white house saying all precautions are being taken to among people who have been in and around not just the make sure that everybody is safe, including, you know, there president but people who work for him. If you just take the rose is physical access to the president. It will be significantly limited garden, for snarninstance, on and appropriate ppe will be september 26th. Worn. Thats a statement from the the white house has not said white house. Whether everyone in the rose so the president is being taken garden was tested for care of medically in the coronavirus. Now theyve said that people around the president are tested residence. Also has a workspace there in the residence for him to do that for coronavirus so it suggests that not everyone in that very and the white house says theyre large gathering outside was. Taking all sorts of precautions. However, all of those people who just because the president is home doesnt mean some of this were mingling with each other anxiety that weve heard about outside and then another from people inside the white house has gone away. Question there is, was anyone theres still a number of concerns about from white who was outside, inside for the house officials who are having to go to work and wondering reception afterwards who wasnt whats happening now, but also tested for coronavirus . What happened and what they may and so what youre seeing is have been exposed to previously, that event and as you mentioned, steph. Yamiche, lets talk about the debate, the president traveling to bedminster, new jersey, at his club for a those people. With that least 14 people in his fundraiser after he knew one of inner circle who have been his closest aides had tested positive for coronavirus. And so its not just him. Infected, has anyone raised their hand and said im not its all of the people around comfortable going back to work . Him. There are definitely people and the problem that you are working from home that were not seeing and hearing from people working from home before this. Who have been in these different and the level of anxiety is through the roof when you talk locations is that they are not to white house officials, white hearing from the white house or house aides. I think the thing we have to any other government entity, and explain to people is, of course, they just dont know what their there are essential workers the exposure is and whether they can president sees as critical to go about their lives without being around him. I want to bring in dr. Richard when you got exposed. Besser. There was a culture that exposed the president and ceo of the

A lot of my family members didnt have that access and we the fact that 200,000 people, have 200,000 americans dead. More than 200,000 people have and the president is in some lost their lives. Ways still trying to downplay disproportionately, people of the virus, even as he fights the color, lower income people in america. Virus himself. Robert, if the president s it was a time for pulling us goal last night when he was up together as a nation, not to there waving on the balcony was talk about this as something that, you dont need to to be a symbol of strength, did i am extremely worried about he miss the mark . And i think you hoped his next in that time, what is the danger set of remarks would talk about to

of the day that could impact millions of people across the country. New york times reporting that
Top White House
officials are now blocking guidelines for the emergency relief of a covid vaccine. Theyre saying forget the guidelines. They want to get it done before the election. Thats according to people familiar with the approval process. Can you explain this to us . I mean, safety is the number one issue here. Well, you know, its not just safety. Its trust. And in order to have trust that a vaccine that gets approved is safe and effective, we need to have hands off of the fda. They need to be able to set the standards, and these standards make sense in terms of making sure youre following people long enough to see if there are safety issues that youre following people along enough to make sure there have been enough severe cases of covid that you can tell whether the vehiclesine truly works. The idea that the political layer of government would tell fda to do their work is absolutely chilling. I do want to ask you, the president tweeted this morning comparing covid to the flu saying we have to learn to live with covid the same way we do with the flu. President trump said when the weather got warm in the summer, it would be gone. He said we wouldnt face a second wave in the fall, we obviously are. Hes got it. What do you think of his message, the covid and the flu, the same diffy . I think there are things people can do right now going into this winter to reduce their risk. One is to think about the flu and make sure youve got your flu shot. The other is to recognize that wearing a mask, washing hands, social distancing, complying with
Public Health
guidelines is the best way to protect yourself, not just from the flu but from covid. There likely will be a day that covid and the flu are treated in similar ways and that hopefully there will be a vaccine and well be able to vaccinate. But at this time, the vaccine equivalent for covid is social distancing,

When wildfires rage out west, he says nothing for weeks. When americans of all backgrounds peacefully protest racism and police violence, he disparages them yet eggs on heavily armed militias. When our heroic young men and women answer the call and give their lives for our country, he calls them suckers and losers. And, steph, in posting that message,
Michelle Obama called the last few days a bracing reminder of whats going on and the tragedy thats happened over the course of this administration. Her pitch, very closely mirroring what weve heard from joe biden and
Kamala Harris on the campaign trail, and i imagine its more of what were going to hear here in
Salt Lake City wednesday night. Steph . Ali, thank you. Lets dig deeper. Lilly adams, adviser for the dnc war room and former
Communications Director for
Kamala Harris and fernan fernand amandi, a former consultant to
Barack Obamas campaign. You are always welcome to join us on air with any policy advisers. You know how senator
Kamala Harris operates. How is she getting ready for this debate since theyve been walking this fine line of pulling negative ads while the president was in the hospital . I think shell view this as an opportunity to talk to the
American People, talk to those undecided voters out there and really mobilize folks who are already going to the polls. But i think shell also hold the
Trump Administration writ large accountable, including
Vice President mike pence who is head of the
Covid Task Force for frankly a complete failure at every level to contain the coronavirus thats punished not only the 211,000 americans who have lost their lives but the millions of folks who are their family members, the millions of folks who have lost their jobs and seen their hours cut back. I think she will speak directly to those sorts of anxieties and worries that the
American People are feeling right now. And just outline the leadership that she and joe biden could bring to the many crises that are facing this country. We have two people running for president who are over the age of 70. Theres a lot of focus from voters on these vp picks. And tomorrow night. Youve been talking to voters in one of the most important swing states, florida. What do they want to see tomorrow . Well, certainly i think theyre looking for a major departure from that embarrassment which was the first debate caused solely really by
President Trump who put on an ugly display for american democracy around the world. I actually think you will see a more reserved
Vice President pence. Youll certainly see
Kamala Harris with all of her strengths as a former prosecutor. Those that weve also seen in the
Senate Committee hearings on display. And by contrast, i think in some respects, that will even undermine more the president s disastrous first appearance. But just like in the debate, that contrast which was also on display for older voters last night, stephanie, a stark and disturbing contrast. We saw in former
Vice President biden a wouldbe president who is bound by the rule of law talking about the importance of taking the virus seriously. The protocols,
Wearing Masks. By contrast, we saw in
President Trump someone who looked like a wouldbe dictator acting as a superspreader of the virus that has caused the unnecessary, premature deaths of 212,000 americans from the peoples house, in the white house. So i think the stage is set for an epic and historic
Vice President ial debate tomorrow night. Lily, who is the
Kamala Harris voter . Who does she bring in to the ticket to support her and joe biden . Well, i think thats such a broad group now. In particular because i think one of the issues that will be at the front and center at this debate, youll see the plexiglas there that will be a reminder. Is this administrations failure on coronavirus. So she will not only be speaking to families and seniors who are worried about the safety and health of their loved ones but also to communities of color who are concerned about the high rate at which those communities are contracting this virus and being killed by this virus. But i also think its a really good behinder that what i expect well see from
Vice President pence is what was being talked, about a more reserved tone but no fewer lies than what weve seen from donald trump. But lily im not asking you about
Vice President pence or drawing a stark contrast. Im asking who is
Kamala Harris base . Who is her voter . We saw in the primary that she performs well among suburban women which youve seen as key to this ticket to seeing some of the margins weve seen in recent polls. She speaks directly, obviously, her life story to many communities of color and immigrants who see themselves in her. She has the potential to completely broaden the base and speak to a wide swath of americans on the debate stage tomorrow night. A lot of americans who are sick of what theyve seen. I want to ask you about new polling you have out of miami where joe biden is leading
President Trump among hispanic voters but losing among cuban americans, despite the fact that he does not have communist or socialist policies. He does not have a socialist track record and the president continues to hammer that all day long and yesterday. How ironic that the president who says he is in love with a communist dictator of north korea dares to impugn joe biden. He is always guilty of projecting out what he himself does on a frequent basis. Its not surprising. But back to the polling numbers. I think one of the things we see here in miamidade county, joe biden is still a little bit off of
Hillary Clintons pace here in dade county from four years ago. Hillary won it by almost 30 points and still came up short in florida with those 29 crucial electoral votes. But the salvation for
Vice President biden, a trend were seeing in the other counties of the state. Hes doing much better with older white anglo voters. Especially those 65 plus which would make sense given that they are the most vulnerable to the horrific mismanagement of this pandemic by the
Trump Administration. So if joe biden continues to overperform with those older white voters, he may win florida and if he wins florida its going to make it very hard on
Election Night for donald trump to try and play the illegitimate election card. A decisive win on
Election Night will make it really hard to contest this election. Fernand, lily, thank you very much. All our eyes will be on tomorrow night. The only
Vice President ial debate. Our colleagues rachel maddow, nicolle wallace, joy reid and

Economic Relief package. House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi expected to speak with treasury secretary
Steve Mnuchin again today after the pair was not able to reach an agreement during an hourlong phone call on monday. Negotiations continue while millions of americans are still out of work. Several financial lifelines from the first stimulus package expired weeks ago. And economists are worrying that a lack of new stimulus will stunt a slowing economic recovery. At the very same time, wall street, look at the markets, warming to the idea of a socalled blue wave under a biden administration. Goldman sachs chief economists now saying it would likely result in substantially easier u. S. Fiscal policy, a reduced risk of a renewed trade escalation and a firmer
Global Growth outlook and strategists over at jpmorgan say a biden win could be a positive for the stock market. Neither firm warning of big tax increases. I want to bring in dom chu. Yesterday the markets shot higher after a very rough friday but there are two very different narratives as to why. The white house says the markets are happy because
President Trump is getting better. Others say the exact opposite. Because what started markets on a skittish path last week was the debate. And chaos about a potential contested election. With former vp biden taking a larger lead in the polls, a decisive victory whomever wins mean less chance for a contested election. Thats what markets are looking for. Transparency and a calm democracy, right . Yes, i mean, its a little of all of those things you mentioned. We saw markets react to
President Trumps diagnosis or proclamation that he had covid19. We also saw it respond to more positive developments on that front. Whats more interesting right now is the thing thats driving markets the most at this particular moment ahead of the election is the idea that
Congress Might be able to actually get a coronavirus stimulus package, another version of it, out and approved with money to americans who really need it the most. When you do see prospects for that, any kind of a relief package coming out of congress, thats when markets respond positively to the upside. You brought up this notion here that theres uncertainty thats brewing right now. Yes, there is. At the same time theres a notion theres a belief out there that if you do not have as much of a contested election that markets can go higher. The polls right now are indicating that you could see a little more certainty with regard to
Vice President joe biden securing that particular election. Thats not to say that it will happen. Polls have been wrong in the past. I harken back to 2016. But the certainty element is what markets are looking more for. Thats the main reason youre seeing a little bit of positivity. Remember, stephanie, this isnt like were seeing a 2,000point rally in the dow but a lot of people are waiting to see what happens in the couple of weeks ahead of the election. Thats the reason youre seeing, again, stable markets, not rocketing higher or falling like a stone to the down side. Not yet. Then who or what is standing in the way of the stimulus package . If democrats are trying to pass this robust package that will help cities, states, schools and the millions of americans struggling and we know the president is laser beam focused on big business and markets, why wouldnt they just get a package done. Last i checked having big debts and deficits is something republicans used to care about. Yeah, and thats been a big narrative so far right now. This idea that were expanding our deficits on the budget side of things. This is far the conversations moved far away from the trade deficit side of things over the course of the last several months. The budget deficits at this point here are in play right now because of a huge concerted effort to battle the covid19 pandemic. The biggest threat to the u. S. Right now from that pandemic, aside from the obvious health factors, is the notion that the u. S. Economy could again go into that very, very deep depressionlike recessionlike element we saw in march, april and may. Now that weve recovered slightly from it if you can get the notion of more stimulus out there, the economy could be set for a higher path forward. If it does not happen, then you risk that element going into a very tough season when the flu could strike at everything else. So lawmakers at this stage really need to come together and figure out whether or not the economy can withstand another shock like that. Right now theres not a lot of at least
Market Sentiment that says that lawmakers will not come to an agreement but they feel as though that fiscal stimulus, that government aid will happen more possibly with the
Democratic Administration and much more so in a possible blue wave quote unquote scenario like you pointed out. The pressure is on for both parties. President trump yesterday urging secretary mnuchin and leader mcconnell to get something done. Dom, thank you. Get your flu shot safely from our pharmacy experts at walgreens this morning, less than one month until the election, were turning to a state that has already been dubbed the epicenter of election chaos. The state of pennsylvania. Just in the last week alone, the website where voters can register or request mailin ballots was down for over 36 hours. Republican lawmakers in the state took the first step to create a committee that could investigate the election while votes are still being counted. Think about that. And then theres a fight playing out over whats known as poll watchers. After
President Trump falsely accused the state of turning away his supporters. Officials there responding that the campaign has no poll watchers approved to work there yet. All of this, of course, happening in one of the most crucial battleground states that could tip this election. Dasha burns is in one of the mustwin counties. I was there earlier this year. Beaver county, pennsylvania. Dasha, what are you hearing from
Election Officials there . Hey, stephanie. Good morning. Later today, county officials including county commissioners, workers at the
Elections Bureau and the county sheriff will be meeting here at the
Beaver County courthouse to try and tackle a plan for how to assure safety at the polls. This is the meeting that will likely be the first of many. And it came about from questions from voters around safety and security and officials here want to ensure everyone feels comfortable exercising their right to vote on election day. Now 2020 has created some unique conditions that could pose some challenges at the 129 polling places across
Beaver County and the many more across the state of pennsylvania. Theres, of course, covid19. How do you ensure folks are following safety protocols, including social distancing and mask wearing especially as covid itself has become a political issue. But there are also questions around voter intimidation and conflict as the tensions are high around this election. I spoke to the sheriff here, sheriff tony guy. Hes seen fights between families, fights between friends, and he doesnt want that spilling over into the voting area. Take a listen to some of what he told me. We are increasing our numbers. Well have more manpower out there to deal with any potential situations. Are you concerned about voter intimidation . Its a great question. And thats part of this. I know in past elections, in different places, there has been legitimate voter intimidation. We wont tolerate that here. And those are things well respond to quickly and adequately. Stephanie, there are a lot of questions that will be addressed in this building today. One change thats been made. When you walk into a polling place, those people that stand outside will have to be an extra ten feet away from the voting area to create that extra space, give extra comfort to voters as they go into that voting booth. Stephanie . Dasha, thank you. Joining me to discuss, democratic member of the
Pennsylvania House of representatives, malcolm kenyatta. Help us understand this. Republicans are creating a committee that could investigate novembers vote, and the election hasnt even happened yet. What is going on . Thank you so much, stephanie. Whats going on is donald trump is afraid of having to run on his record and so instead of litigating this election in the public square, he is trying to litigate this election in the courts. There have been multiple lawsuits he has filed to try to distract and dissuade voters from coming out and exercising their right to vote. And this commission on
Election Integrity is another example of the
Republican Party really being sycophants and imbracing any crazy idea that comes out of the president s month and on his twitter feed, even if its going to come at the cost of our democracy. Is there anything you can do about it . They control the state legislature. I think that what folks need to recognize, and i think what folks need to do is vote. They need to vote like theyve never voted before. And as i said before, we can stop this. Our term in the state
Legislature Begins on december 1st. If we win back the state house, we can stop a lot of these plans that they have been laying out to try to screw with the election. So people need to vote by mail. They need to vote early. They need to vote safely in person if they choose to. What i think voters do understand, and i think were seeing it in a lot of the polls that donald trump and the
Republican Party, they want to take away your health care. They want to take away social security. They even want to take away your vote. But the thing that donald trump refuses to do is to take responsibility for his record of failure. Help us understand poll watchers because poll watchers have been part of the election process for quite some time. But in this case, it is different. Can you explain it to us . Absolutely. So we do have poll watchers. If you want to be a poll watcher, theres a process by which you apply through the local republican or democratic parties to get a poll watching certificate. And everybody wants a fair election. But what we do know is that theres been a history of voter intimidation. The
Republican Party here in pennsylvania was under a dissent decree for a long time because of the type of voter intimidation that the president has consistently encouraged. But just like in that hearing, were not going to be intimidated by donald trump. And i know, you know, the president likes to watch tv, stephanie. So if hes watching, i would say, mr. President , you have made the last four years hard enough. Dont make it hard for people to vote. Lastly, are any of these headlines valid, these voting issues in your state beyond what republicans are trying to do at the core of it, does that is there are there any real problems . So whats so frustrating for me, stephanie is that there are things that we could do to make this process fair. We could deal with the issues around naked ballots that would ensure that every vote counts. County commissioners have been imploring the state legislature to do around allowing them to precanvas ballots so were not waiting weeks and weeks for the results of the election. We could do things like making sure theres a cure if folks have issues with their signature or issues as i mentioned before, with the ballot. They didnt put their ballot inside the separate envelope. We could do things like that. But instead of sitting dun and getting serious about areas of bipartisan concern, you have republicans just pushing forward and trying to ram through
Donald Trumps wish list of
Voter Suppression and intimidation. People got to get out there and theyve got to vote. Thank you so much for joining us. I appreciate it. Thank you for covering this. Texas Governor limited the number of absentee dropoff locations to one per county. In
Harris County im talking about where houston is, we already saw massive lines like these stretching into the night on super tuesday. You

Third Largest in the nation, home to 4. 7 million people. How far do people have to travel to drop off their ballots and the rationale the governor has for having just one . Reporter well, stephanie, this is a county of nearly 1800 square miles. It means for folks who dont live in this area, maybe live in the outskirts of the county, theyre coming a pretty long way to be here and drop off these p ballots. They drive up to this location, the only one in the county, and drop off these ballots and show their i. D. And sign verify that signature before they head out. But it is a very big concern, as you mentioned, among
Voting Rights groups and advocates. Harris county has sent out more than 200,000 absentee ballots and right now theyve only gotten in around 1500. Theres a lot more to be brought in and right now thats going to be happening at this location and only this location in
