Tariff their cars at 25 coming into the United States. This will supersede usmca. We make money as opposed to lose money. We probably bring those cars back into the United States. Im also looking at an economic penalty for all of the drugs that are coming in through the southern border and killing our people. Congress has to act. They have to get rid of catch and release, chain migration, visa lottery. They have to get rid of the whole asylum system because it doesnt work. The economic numbers just came out, theyre very, very good, our country is doing unbelievably well. Economically, a lot of companies will be announcing theyre moving back into the United States. Theyre all coming back. They want to be where the action is. I personally think the fed should drop rates. I think they really slowed us down. Theres no inflation. I would say in terms of quantitative tightening, it should be quantitative easing. Very little, if any, inflation, and i think they should drop rates and they should get rid of quantitative tightening. You would see a rocket ship. Right now quantitative easing. Thats what he called for. Thats the Federal Reserve putting money into the economy with the effect of lowering Interest Rates which has the you take the economy out of a recession which is what we did in 2009 because we were coming out of a disastrous financial crisis. Its not usually something that follows somebody saying were in the best economy ever. 30 seconds later, at 10 08, he said greatest economy ever. He said we need quantitative easing. It makes zero sense. Were going to talk about that a little later. The president is on his way to the southern border of california. Is a part of the area that he threatened to shut down. The president is walking that threat back giving mexico, quote, a one year warning to deal with the drug crisis there. During his visit, hell tour 2 miles of fencing that have been reinforced. The fencing the president will see, wait for it, predates his shut down fight with congress. In fact it was even identified under the Obama Administration as in need of repair. All right. Joining us from that border town is nbc hans nickels. The president is taking credit for this piece of wall that existed before he took office. The department of Homeland Security has asked the department of defense funding for 15 additional miles of fencing. What are we talking about here . Its not unusual. Its not unusual. The question is what part of the wall is the pentagon going to build and what part of the wall is the president going to take credit for. If he takes credit of the portions that well see, steel slatting, however you want to talk about that fencing, thats something that was initiated under the Obama Administration. That gives you an indication that more border security, theres actually a bipartisan consensus on that. If he acknowledges that, that could be an attempt by the president to bring more democrats along. But if he claims credit for something that clearly was done or at least initiated under a previous administration, its an indication that he wants to talk to his own base and escalate the rhetoric on this. What will happen here, hell get a briefing here. Were about a mile and a half away from the border. All morning long, weve been seeing vehicles leave here. They go down to the border and patrol because this part has fencing. Some of it, the president does want to replace or reinforce, but theres pretty secure fencing. He wants to do more in both directions, towards the pacific and also towards texas. Guys . Talk about the nomination of border official ron vidello. He was supposed to travel to california with the president. But now hes not. Walk us through whats going on here. Reporter i cant because its a puzzler. They with drew the nomination. This is something the president talked about. It looked like his nomination was going to get approved and before the president gone onto the plane today, he said they want to go in a tougher direction, they want someone thats harsher. This is what happens inside of the country, trying to round up people who arent allowed to be here. Its a bit of a mystery. I think the question today is what sort of rhetoric we hear from the president , is he going to blame mexico, congress, and whats he going to take credit for. Thanks for your coverage from there. Well check in later with you there. Im going to go with all the good stuff, credit, all the bad stuff, democrats, just a guess. We have breaking news. Joe biden, he spoke publicly for the first time to a crowd since the accusations of some unwanted touching were released and i would say he sounded very, very much like a candidate. What do you think . Yeah. And then he stopped to talk to reporters who were asking him some questions about these accusations of uncomfortable contact by women about when hes going to declare how hes going to stand out and increasingly Progressive Democratic field. Lets listen to what he said. My intent to make light of anyones discomfort i realize my responsibility is not to invade the space of anyone whos uncomfortable in that regard. And i hope it wasnt taken that way. But there was you know, i literally think its incumbent upon me and everybody else to make sure that if you embrace someone, if you touch someone, its with their consent regardless of your intentions. Even if youre trying to bring solace, trying to welcome them. Its my responsibility to do that. Whats your reaction to President Trump taunting you on twitter . What do you have to say to him . He doesnt surprise me. He doesnt have time to do his job. Look, its Everybody Knows who donald trump is. So theres i dont have to say anything more, i dont think. Do you think you should felt say again. Do you expect a lot more people to come forward . I wouldnt be surprised. But ive had hundreds and hundreds of people contact me who i dont know and say the exact opposite. Look, it is it is important that i and everyone else is aware that any woman or man who feels uncomfortable should have the right to say, hey, i was uncomfortable with that. Or hopefully get to the point even before anything happens, say, im uncomfortable with that. No matter what. And i i really do understand it. And so but its you know, one of the things that like, for example, what made me say it, i wasnt joking. The president of the union put his arms around me. Thats how its been here ive been here a long time. Thats how people react. And do you think you owe these women a direct apology who have come forward so far . The fact of the matter is, i made it clear, if i made anyone feel uncomfortable, i feel badly about that. That was never my intention. Some want to hear a sorry. Are you sorry for the way you made im sorry i didnt understand more. Im not sorry for any of my intentions. Im not sorry for anything i have ever done. I have never been disrespectful intentionally, to a man or a woman. Its that thats not the reputation ive had since i was in high school. You always said youre not changing your brand. Is this whole episode of the past week, is this going to change how you campaign . I think its going to have to change how i campaign. Its like the new thing is selfies. Everybody wonders why i take the selfie, so they dont put it on instagram. If i had the camera, at least i make sure its a photo and im not doing Something Else because you have to wonder what its being used for. Its all changed. And its its changed even with you guys, come on. Each of you are aware of it in your personal relationships of changes and its not a bad thing. Its a new thing. Its important. And im sure its going to take a while for it to settle out. It settled out for me. When will you be entering the 2020 race . Im told by the lawyers that ive got to be careful what i say so that i dont start a clock ticking and change my status. But it is i am very close to making the decision to stand before you all relatively soon. I think days . Weeks . Whats the hold up . Whats the hold up . Putting everything together, man. Putting everything together. Even if i knew for certain that i was going to run for president back in thanksgiving, my intention was if i were to run, i would be the last person to announce. And so give everybody else their day, and i get a shot and off to the races. The lack of a formal operation this week make your response trickier . No. Do you think herman cain is qualified to be on the Federal Reserve . I would pick someone else. You said two weeks ago you were the most progressive person in the democrat no, i said liberal. You said progressive. Heres the point. Thats changing too. For my whole career, i wish i had been labeled in delaware as a moderate. If you look at my record with the aclu, all of the traditional liberal organizations, i have never walked away from, im not sure when everybody else came out and said theyre for gay marriage im not sure when everybody came out and talked about a lot of the things ive talked about. But my point is, the definition of progressive now seems to be changes. It is are you a socialist . Thats a real progressive. Are you do you believe in whatever. So i was talking about up until this last time around, the traditional judgments of whether or not you were, quote, a liberal was whether or not what your positions on race were, women, what your position on lgbt community, what your positions on civil liberties, ill stack my record on those things against everybody whos ever run, whos running now or who will run. Are you suggesting the party is moving too far to the left. Well find out whether we can win in a primary. Heres the deal. I think you guys, if you look at all the polling data and look at the actual results, the party has not moved how i dont want to characterize it, whatever characterization you just made. The fact of the matter is, the vast majority of the members of the Democratic Party are still basically liberal to moderate democrats in the traditional sense. If you look at those i went into 65, 66, 67 races on the ground. I campaigned i think for virtually every one of the 41 people who won. Show me the really left, left, left, left wingers to beat a republican. A republican. The idea of the Democratic Party has stood on its head, i dont get. We should welcome the party should welcome this i dont know how you want to characterize it. The progressive left. It should be welcomed. We should have a debate about these things. Thats not a bad thing. But the idea, all of a sudden, the Democratic Party woke up and everybody asked what kind of democrat, im an obamabiden democrat, and im proud of it. I want to talk about this for a minute, joe biden saying he doesnt regret his intentions, and heres what i think is really important. Because you could say someones behavior is out of touch or its not modern, lets take this opportunity to change things and evolve. But i worry very much about conflating that with the very serious me too issues that are out there. When people are harassed or when theyre assaulted, i assure you, the intention is something that you should regret. I spent 15 years of my life working in investment banks before this. I know the difference between an old fashion guy in business who i might not want to have my shoulders rubbed or hugged, lets change that. But to conflate that and say thats an assault and compare that to me too, i hope we dont go there because me too is serious and it has to be addressed. Im going to say good on joe biden for saying i dont regret my intentions. Lets change how were behaving. Nobody who has made any allegations against joe biden has said it was sexual or assault. They said it made them feel uncomfortable. That is valid. And he seems to be addressing the idea that you shouldnt be making people uncomfortable. What has happened is that media conflates it and both issues need to be addressed. But theyre very different issues. Talking about running, he says hes not in a position because of his lawyers to say anything that would start a clock ticking, but it sounded like he walked right up to the red line. Mike, we heard him talk about running. When asked whether he can win primaries, he said, well see. What did you take away from that . Reporter ali, this was a preview of the next year, perhaps year and a half of a joe biden candidacy. We start out, obviously, in the air with the questions about whether the former Vice President would address the allegations about him in the past week, whether he would attempt to reconcile with the me too movement and his own past behavior. We were told by his advisors that he was not going to address that in his remarks, they wanted the focus to be on infrastructure. What happened . Joe biden, an off the cuff remark. He says, i got permission to hug the head of the union that he was speaking at today. That gaggle that you just played, that was not planned. They said he was not going to be addressing reporters. But they got the sense that perhaps those remarks he made when he was speaking to the union there could have been seen about him being too glib. He came out and wanted to address that, but naturally what happens when youre surrounded with reporters, youre going to get a lot of questions about his plans. You heard him all be declare that hes running for president , basically saying the only thing at this Point Holding him back is the legal timeline. I will tell you that having spent the past week speaking with a number members of the Vice President s inner circle, they feel they have weathered this storm very well. They believe able to deal with the situation and keep their focus on building out, making those final calls for the campaign. Of course lets not forget just yesterday he was spotted in his hometown of scranton filming a campaign video, very much something that might be part of a launch. You heard him engaging with President Trump, asked if he would respond to the fact that the president saying hes not a threat or him mocking him in that parody video, saying we all know who the president is, he needs to focus on his job. And trying to reconcile his place in the party. I asked him that question about whether he is progressive enough. He says im an obamabiden democrat. He also noted that when he campaigned for candidates in the midterm elections last year, a lot of those candidates that won were candidates who could appeal to the middle who were not he used the word socialist. An interesting preview of what we might be seeing from the Vice President over the next year. Thank you for your reporting. Next up, someone who is running, who is officially running. Boost® high protein. Be up for life. Welcome back to velshi ruhle. Its the first friday of every month which means its jobs day. We got the job report for the month prior. Lets see what we got. This is the main number, this is the one i think we have to pay the most attention to 196,000 net new jobs were created. Net new jobs, mean all the jobs were created minus the jobs that were lost, comes out to 196,000. The estimate was 175,000. Anything above 150 tends to be good in a hot economy. The Unemployment Rate, 3. 8 . Thats steady. Its low by historical standards. This shouldnt be the most important number. Its one that gets a lot of attention. It changes every month. I tend to prefer this number to this number. If you need to talk about the Unemployment Rate its 3. 7 . This is more reflective of the percentage of people who were working for better work, full time work, work with benefits, so they would normally be considered employed under this number. But if everybody wanted the job they wanted, you would be looking at 7. 3 . This covers for people. This is historically low. If that got down to 5 , you would be doing particularly well. Wage growth, this is where the rubber hits the road, you are are on average earning 3. 2 more than you were a year ago. 3. 2 is not bad. Inflation is loweren that. As long as youre making more than inflation, its good. We have not seen this for many years. People who got stuck in the recession are now just starting to feel that. By the way, a lot of this wage growth is coming from the lower end of the wage spectrum because youre seeing those hourly wages increase a little more. Thats a good thing. Thats a good thing. People at the low like target yesterday, increases target employees will have seen this. All the way through the recession, there wasnt a single we saw 49,000 jobs created in health care, 34,000 in professional and Technical Services and 27,000 in Food Services and drinking places. Thats a picture of what jobs look like more march. Despite those strong numbers, theres still questions the president had this morning about the economy. Indeed there are, and theres questions about whos going to be the next president. Right now there are 17 declared Democratic Candidates running for 2020. And one of them is fo
