You support economic sanctions which includes the resumption of joint interkorean Industrial Complex and perhaps even the at the right time i would have great support. This isnt the right time. At the right time i would have great support with north korea. Great support. I think south korea and i think japan and i think that the u. S. , i think a lot of countries will be helping. China, i really believe will help. Russia will help. A lot of countries will help. When the right deal is made and when the Nuclear Weapons are gone, i just think that north korea has potential as great as anything ive ever seen in terms of potential. They have an unbelievable location surrounded by sea on two sides and on the other side russia, china and over here south korea. You just cant do better than that and they have magnificent land. It has tremendous potential. [ speaking Foreign Language ] so the question was if north korea actually submit as road map regarding complete denuclearization will the two president s, will you be discussing this issue at the summit meeting today yes, we will. We will be discussing it. Certainly thats a very prime topic for our meeting today. Is your position still that sanctions should stay in place on north korea until there is denuclearization or are you willing to consider easing sanctions to keep the talks going . No, we want sanctions to remain in place and frankly i had the option of significantly increasing them. I didnt want to do that because of my relationship with kim jongun. I did not want to do that. I didnt think it was necessary. As you know a couple of weeks ago i held it back but i think sanctions are great now at a level thats a fair level and i really believe something significant will happen. We can always increase them but i didnt want to do them at this time. Mr. President would you accept a smaller the deal to keep the process going . I have to see what the deal is. There are various smaller deals. Things can happen. You can work out step by step pieces. At this moment were talking about the big deal. The big deal is we have to get rid of the Nuclear Weapons. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you. Thank you. You know there are 15 players capable of winning and i guess you could say there are a lot more than that. I dont think a field for the masters has ever been this deep. I was watching late last night and they were going over the different players. I think the field has never been so deep. But always phil and tiger and dustin, we have so many great players. But they were just saying they are younger, they are stronger, they never hit the ball this long, they never hit the ball this accurately. Never putted better. The whole thing is pretty incredible. The field is very, very deep. I think its going to be a great masters. I hope so. Thank you very much, everybody. President trump auditioning there for his next career as a golf commentator. Touching on the arrest of Julian Assange as well as attorney general bill barr and the mueller report. Joining me now is Robert Sylvester kelly. There was a lot discussed the there. But i got stuck at one point about seven minutes ago when the president said i dont know anything about wikileaks. Its not my think. I heard more from wikileaks from donald trump than any other source at all in life. Reporter it was a remarkable comment, ali. Lets go back to the campaign. Lets rewind. President trump, according to a quick fact check mentioned wikileaks more than 100 times. I love wikileaks he would say after those hacked emails of the Clinton Campaign and the dnc and so it was quite stunning to hear him say its not my thing. He also notably said look its up to the attorney general to determine what happens with Julian Assange. But weve been reaching out to the white house about this development with Julian Assange since the very early hours this morning. Havent got an official response yet. That was the official response and the First Response from President Trump and, again, notable because of that fact check. Also headline making, the president s comments about William Barrs testimony yesterday when he said that he believes there was spying of the trump campaign. President trump saying he believes the attorney general is accurate in saying that, that there was unprecedented spying on his campaign. Not new here. The president saying that. What was new was to hear the attorney general essentially echo what weve heard from this president. Of course, that has been met with a very sharp backlash from democrats, some who are calling on the attorney general to withdraw those statements. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also had some very strong criticism of the attorney general. So, look, this was an important meeting for President Trump. Hes there with the president of south korea, obviously talking about the attempts to get north korea to denuclearize. Those talks have largely stalled. But, again, the headlines coming out of it at this hour have to do with those remarkable comments about wikileaks and fact the attorney general wants to look into whether this was spying of the trump campaign. Thank you very much. You led us into the next conversation i want to have. Julian assange charged in a computer hacking conspiracy by the u. S. Justice department and found guilty of skipping bail by a london court. Julian assange was literally carried out by british authorities this morning after spending nearly seven years in londons Ecuadorian Embassy. His arrest paving the way for his possible extradition to the United States where he face s count of conspiracy related to the leaking of 470,000 classified military documents back in 2010 provided to him by army whistle blower chess see manning. To give you and idea of the scope of this, according to prosecutors the material that manning gave wikileaks included reports from the afghanistan war, iraq war and 250,000 state department cables. This led to the conviction of Chelsea Manning who was sentenced to 35 years in prison and now Julian Assange could be next. There are a lot of moving parts in this story. Lets highlight how we got here. The Ecuadorian Embassy in london took Julian Assange in when he was facing rape charges in sweden. Today the Ecuadorian Embassy wi withdrew its asylum for what they call aggressive behavior and violation of protocols. Its his role in the 2016 president ial election that made him a quite popular figure. Thats when Julian Assange found himself at the center of a number of investigation, leaking classified information, espionage and collusion with the russians. U. S. Intelligence officials concluded the hacks were, in fact, conducted by the russian government. The russians hacked the information, somehow Julian Assange got it and released it. It wasnt long after that news broke when President Trump showered praise on wikileaks multiple times and did so many other Times Leading up to the election. Wikileaks. I love wikileaks. The Hillary Clinton documents released today by wikileaks. Make more clear than ever just how much is at stake in this election. So much corruption. This wikileaks stuff is unbelievable. It tells you the inner heart. You got to read it. The wikileaks document show how the media conspiers and collaborates with Clinton Campaign including giving the questions and answers to Hillary Clinton before a debate. I dont get them. I want them. We love wikileaks. Boy, wikileaks. Hillary has good instincts. We knew that. In a newly released email john podesta has been caught saying we have to dump all of those emails. You can believe this . Thats wikileaks. Wikileaks, wikileaks, wikileaks, wikileaks, wikileaks. Now from wikileaks. Did you see what came out over wikileaks . Oh, we love wikileaks. We learned so much from wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Just came out with lots of really unbelievable things. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Wikileaks. Again nobody is covering wikileaks. Quite a different tune from President Trump a few minutes ago who said i know nothing about wikileaks. Its not my thing. Joining me now nbc news investigation reporter and keir simmons. Tom most people got to know Julian Assange because of the email leaks associating him now with the 2016 election. This is about stuff that happened in 2010. This was the Chelsea Manning information that was about in many cases military moments and things like that. This is why people are two minds of Julian Assange. Some think hes a hero for being able to get information that governments keep from you and others said he imperilled men and women who are at war. Exactly. Two clear distinctions. Wikileaks rose to prominence in the 20102011 time frame when Chelsea Manning stole several thousands, tens of thousands of documents. They were provide the wikileaks and published. Some of those documents were classified. Some were confidential. They included a significant amount of documents having to do with depth cables, basically information embassies around the world transmit them here. All that information became public. Then youve already high liked in everything the president said and when you were explaining before everything thats happened more recently. The key thing here today is charges dont have anything to do related to actually publishing that information because this News Organization and many News Organizations publish classified material something thats protected by the First Amendment. So we are allowed to publish that information. What we are not allowed to do and this is where Julian Assange got into trouble today if the allegations to be believed that was brought by the Justice Department, which is that you are not allowed to help instruct, youre not allowed to help somebody defeat security systems. Thats really the key thing here today. Hes charged with a conspiracy, a computer intrusion charge here today. Essentially saying, look, were charging Julian Assange with trying to help Chelsea Manning defeat a password so chelsea can then go through the systems and log in as an administrator, or log in as a different user to help shield her efforts to get these documents. So thats what hes been charged with today. Not publishing the documents. The documents have already been either published or had already been transmitted from Chelsea Manning to Julian Assange. This was for future document efforts. Important distinction because as you read through these editorials and news reports about this today, First Amendment and freedom of speech and journalism freedom conversation will come to the fore. Well have that more fully tomorrow. Today theres a lot of news to get through that. Keir simmons i want to go back to this weird optics. This guy was wanted on an arrest warrant, was given asylum by a country and normally when we think of asylum we think of him going to that country. Never left london. He walked into the Ecuadorian Embassy. What were going to see in the days ahead are two trials. Theres going to the legal courts that judges will pass through and then the court of Public Opinion. What you rightly set out is that actually people have gone through a journey in terms of whether they support him or dont. Depending on what hes leaked. In fact he was in that embassy because he skipped bail over allegations that he was involved in raping in sweden. Those charges got dropped. Thats why hes still there. Wikileaks and Julian Assange always said is the big story here is they want to extradite me to america. He said that year in and year out. Now you heard outside the court in london what they are saying told you so. See this was always about americans trying to get ahold of me. What he says now and this goes back to Public Opinion and legal comes together. It doesnt matter what the doj says. It doesnt matter. Actually this is about america trying to get me to america and then they will throw a bunch of other charges against me. This is about journalism and u. S. Security establishment trying to punish me for embarrassing them. Why did the ecuadorians decide this was over. There was a change in government from ecuador. Theyve been under pressure from the white house to take this kind of action. Also when you invite somebody to your house to help them and they stay for eight hours to the extent that Julian Assange and his supporters continue to say he is a journalist. From a legal perspective that doesnt protect him any more. It just gets him into a conversation about whether these are these things should be protect and whether government should be prosecuting people for leaking information. Thats the correct question. No difference between Julian Assange and any other journalist. If somebody came to me and said i have classified documents about a secret war program that the United States is involved with but i need help breaking the password or tom i need you to push me in the window to go into file cabinet to steal it. Thats essentially what were talking about here. Thats wrong for me to do. Illegal. Illegal. It would be illegal for me to do. At that point im coercing or helping to assist. Im involved in illegal act of obtaining those documents. What isnt illegal tom i got these classified documents, here you go, thats it. I havent told that person to do anything. I havent aided them. At that point its clean and clear. Why no journalist was charged with the snowden documents, for instance. There were joufrmists from a number of organizations that did a lot of great work on the snowden documents. No reporter was charged with that. Nbc news hasnt been charged. We were given the documents. We didnt say we want document 75. At that point thats where ethicality, illegality question comes in. Thanks for making this clear. A lot of time and a lot of moving parts. So its useful to look at it here and go back. As tom said theres a much larger conversation to be had on this. People are on different sides of this issue. Is Julian Assange a hero or is he a very dangerous person. Tomorrow National Security attorney bradley moss will be here to implicate the outcome of this story. It is incumbent upon even those of us who disspies him to stand against any effort that might seek to differentiate one outlet of the press from another. Police arrested the suspect in connection with the burnings of three black churches in louisiana and their connection to Law Enforcement is shocking.
