We had 26 million before the recession. We have 46 million today. Those additional 20 million are people who were working in this country, who are great citizens and still are, but they lost their jobs and need this help. As congressman says, its a very solvable problem. Less than 1 of snap funds go to ineligible households. 99 nonfraudulent. Democrats have seated a lot of ground in establishing a narrative. When we talk about a war against the poor, it feels the democrats side of the battle have laid down the battle axes in a way, i wonder if you think democrats should give voice to nethese voiceless americans, in tune of 37 milli 47 million to rely on this to make ends meet. Congress cut snap by billions of dollars, everyone on the program received a cut, and food prices continue to rise. I think the democrats need to take more leadership on this issue. Ive been asking the white house to do a white house conference on food, nutrition and hunger to come up with a road map to end hunger in america. Not just about if wic or snap or School Feeding programs, theres a lolt of other things we need to do like insist people who work dont have to live in poverty. We need to take greater leadership on this and my hope is that the white house will help us lead the way by doing a white house conference on food, nutrition and hunger. There are many who go to food banks who work, full time, they earn so little that they cant ford to put food on the table, so the narrative that some of my republican colleagues have put out there is just fiction.
