I can say as a Public Health official that i would urge the leaders, the local, political, and other leaders, in states and cities and towns to be as forceful as possible in getting your citizenry to wear masks. Masks are important. Notice he was urging local leaders. He said specifically local leaders because we are not hearing anything like that from our national leaders. And what im about to report, it is really hard to fathom. In georgia, Governor Kemp, a trump ally, suing to block atlantas mask mandate is going to fight something that saves lives, as we well know. The citys mayor hammering back at him today. I think that it is very clear that he is putting politics over people. Weve had over 3,100 georgiians to die from covid19. Our infection rate is the fifth highest in the nation. It is an absolute waste of resources and really a distraction from what the real enemy is here. Idaho, nevada, south carolina, louisiana, missouri, texas, florida, mississippi, alabama and georgia. They are in this red zone as this document is calling it. How dangerous is this . You know, the bottom line is we have spiking cases of coronavirus across the United States. And these particular states, of course, with the Positivity Rate of more than 10 is concerning. But delve deeper than that. We have places like florida with 19 . Places like arizona that are off the charts here. We have cherry picking data is not going to be the way forward here. We need to just understand, is that the whole United States right now is at risk of going into a spiral of disease that every single state around those red states is going to have to deal with. We do not have closed borders here. This is like, weve made this analogy before. This is like a plane with a smoking section. It doesnt matter. The bottom line is here, Everybody Needs to be doing their part. We are going into a place where the genie is so far out of the bottle, we are going to have trouble getting any traction here. So thats my personal thought on just this first piece of it. What are americans doing when they hear mixed messaging. They hear if everybody in this country wears a mask, we could battle this in the next six weeks. We could reduce cases in the next six weeks. If that doesnt happen, hundreds of thousands of lives could be lost. Even more so. Theres so much mixed messaging coming out of washington right now. When you hear a statistic like that, something as easy as wearing a mask, and a mask being so politicized in this country, what are americans to do . Americans are to listen to the science. Because by the way, there is no debate between scientists as to whether or not masks work, whether or not social distancing works, whether or not hand hygiene works. The science tells us very clearly, wear a mask. Social distance. We want our way out of having our economy closed, we want our kids back in school. There is one way forward. And the way forward is for everybody to do their part. I dont care what politicians tell you. I dont care what celebrities and game show hosts tell you. I want to tell you what scientists are telling you. People who have been studying this virus and studying other viruses and making Public Health recommendations from the beginning. And that is, if every american does their part, wear a mask, hand hygiene. The bottom line is you have to eat your vegetables before you eat your dessert. We have to do the right thing, the hard working of tamping this down and stop being distracted by all this noise around us. The noise is just noise. We know what the basic science is that will get us out of this. Its interesting. You say you know the drill. A lot of us dont seem topping the drill. We are seeing these cases skyrocket across this country and were not doing enough to stop the spread of the virus. I want to talk about the governor of georgia suing the mayor of atlanta. Astounding. The most populated city in the state of georgia. Queng that it affects africanamericans in general. Across the board, across this country. This governor is turning around and suing the mayor of atlanta. This is a political game. This isnt about people and their lives. This is politics. Were making it political. It shouldnt be. The coronavirus isnt santa claus. It isnt something, if you decide you dont believe in it, it cant get you. Thats not how science works. Thats not how medicine works. Thats not how a virus works. There is no amount of sticking your head in the sands and pretending the issues are not there that it will protect you. It is offensive and maddening that this is kemps response. Many citizens are at high risk for this disease. Now, i realize for the trump administration, this is very much a hear no coronavirus, see no coronavirus, speak no coronavirus situation. But sticking our head in the sand and pretending its not there doesnt solve this problem unless the goal is for this to be a diseaseriddled nation, i dont see what the ends game is here. Its interesting though, danielle. When you think of texas and you think of governor greg an, from the getgo, he was against wearing mask wearing. He came out and. You could wear a mask, it might be helpful, he didnt want to be a big brother and mandate it across the board. He tried to defy local,who had maitd masks in quote unquote liberal cities in austin and that kind of thing. So you would expect this from a governor like greg abbott. Its not someone you would speck from a governor like brian kemp, although he was one of the first governors to reopen a state ahead of the cdc guidelines. You even had the president coming out saying, i dont think kemp should be opening up the way in which he wants to. I just feel like this is all about politics for kemp. Sure in the past, he may have listened to one or two things. He is suing a mayor who wants to protect people. Thats the bottom line. Hes played politics for peoples lives. He is not taking it as seriously as he should. Despite that hundreds of thousands of americans are impacted by this. This peace from Jennifer Rubin, conservative columnist, really stood out to me. She said this. Republicans are willing to endanger lives, especially thinking about heading into the 2020 election. They need to start to speak out. What do you make of this message . Especially thinking about what we just heard from danielle in which she believes and she says with someone like Governor Kemp is playing with peoples lives. Playing politics with peoples lives. Do you think folks get the message . I think they get the message when they end up in the icu, right . I think you see these stories again and again. It is almost a sub genre. These people who didnt take it seriously and then have these tragic death bed conversions when they realize too late. I would go beyond what general i ruben said. The Republican Party is acting like death cult. It is astonishing. The response to which the people of this country have been utterly abandoned to just widespread disease and death. And look around. This is not happening other places. There are a few hundred cases a day in canada. There are a few hundred a day in most countries in europe. There is no other developed country in which the government has simply decide that had they are going to put the sort of protection of the president s fantasy world above the lives of the people. So i think weve seen since the beginning of the Trump Presidency a president and people around him willing to construct an alternative reality. It is really now when that alternative reality is so at odds with the dangers that are facing this country. I think in the past, people have compared this to chernobyl. This will end up being more devastating than chernobyl. And it is going to have a similar effect on the american empire, right . Chernobyl was this moment when the soviet union sort of, when the hollowness of the regime was revealed to the people. And i do not understand how america comes back from a disaster, particularly avoidable disaster, on this scale. You know, its interesting that you bring that up. I was talking to an adviser to the Coronavirus Task force when all of this was beginning. Back in early march. And he said to me, that the effect this would have on this country would be more so tenfold than the if he can that world war ii had on this country. And i was shocked by that. I couldnt believe it at the time. This was in early march when cases first began to emerge in this country. And we look now, in july, the hundreds of thousands of lives that have been lost in this country. 120,000 plus. And i think wow, personally, he was right. And i quickly want to play a sound bite from dr. Anthony fauci talking about the possible second wave and how we need to combat first whats happening right now. Take a listen. What does the fall look like . Well, first, it is very difficult to predict right now because one of the things about this virus, in some respects, in certain areas, unpredictable. We are really essentially still in the first wave when youre having up to 70,000 new infections in certain areas of the country. That is something you need to focus on right now. Your reaction . Well, i think dr. Fauci is right. Number one. We can only guess what is going to happen next in terms of a second wave or not a second wave. We are still in the throws of the first wave right now. Other places have been able to beat this back and to have very few cases where a second wave might be possible. But we are in wave one right now. And this has been totally avoidable. This is, this was a totally avoidable situation. And the history is going to judge the people who have made this possible. Governors like Governor Kemp, with this insane lawsuit with a mayor of atlanta about trying to keep people safe. There will be blood on these peoples hands and history will judge them as such. I think it is very important for everybody to remember here, everybody has a way to be able to stop the virus from spreading right now. Wear a mask. Social distance. Hand hygiene. We have to stop looking at the politicians like theyll be able to tell us how to be able to manage Public Health. To look Public Health professionals. People who know what theyre doing. And it wouldnt have been surprising to me if he did. I guess i would have to say he did but i cant say i specifically remember it in any one instance. Antisemitic remarks, i think the scenarios that he told, things like that, it was clear to me that he was antisemitic. Two things that you said to me, one, up there were a lot of racist incidents happening at the time. I would understand if you can tell us which incidents youre referring to. And secondly, you said there was a lot of the use of the n word. Was there a lot of use of the n word within the Trump Organization when you were working there .
