On the republican side, Party Officials this week calling for unity as they begin to come to terms with the reality of a trump nomination. Did the Trumps Campaign work. An autopsy now complete. There are many Unanswered Questions remaining. Well take you live to princes home, paisley park, as tributes to the rock legend continue to pour in. We begin this hour with donald trump who is hoping to rack up big wins on tuesday. If the margins are big enough, the path to the 1,237 delegates needed to lock down the nomination could be in sight. Nbcs Hallie Jackson is in bridgeport, connecticut where trump will hold a rally this morning. Can we expect to see more of this disciplined donald . Reporter its interesting, francis. We saw that on tuesday night when he delivered that victory speech in new york. What were seeing on the campaign trail is the same speech, hitting ted cruz, calling him the lying ted. We expect to see much more of the same. Trump recently has started calling on his rivals, both ted cruz and john kasich to drop out. Hes been arguing they have no path to the nomination in his words and he wants them to get out of the race. Obviously the Cruise Campaign and Kasich Campaign have no intentions of doing so. Both buckled in, ready to go for a possible contested convention in cleveland in july. For trump, theres a lot at stake in these northeast and mid atlantic primaries coming up on tuesday. If you look at polling, hes fairly strong, leading in many by double digits when you look at pennsylvania and maryland. If he wins more than half the delegates available on tuesday, his math gets easier. He grows from needing 57 of the remaining delegates in coming contests to lock up the nomination to 52 . For trump, it will be obviously a big boost to him coming out of next week after tuesday into wednesday. Thats also when this race turns west, to indiana, nebraska and california. The Cruz Campaign believes indiana is a place where cruz will be strong and california is going to be a battleground. The stop trump movements also looking at those two states as places where they plan to invest money, places where they plan to invest time as well to try to slow trump down. While were looking at tuesday, here in connecticut, in places like pennsylvania and rhode island, delaware, too, the real battleground coming up may 3rd. Nbcs Hallie Jackson in bridgeport, connecticut, as always, thank you very much. Now to the democrats, Bernie Sanders uphill battle begins at a noon rally in baltimore, maryland. Hell then continue on to a rally in wilmington, delaware. Nbcs Kelly Odonnell who is live in central falls, rhode island. What is the Clinton Campaign focusing on in the final days as the New York Times is reporting shes cautiously optimistic, looking ahead to even possible vps . Its always prudent to do some planning, francis, for a vp choice. That takes some time. It would make sense for his campaign to begin thinking about it. Hes trying to walk the delegate line of being respectful of senator sanders and his supporters because it will be critical for her to bring the Democratic Party together if she is, in fact, the nominee. This group of states coming up do lood gook for her in the places where public polling has been done. She is up on sanders in many cases by double digits. Thats a strong potential for her. Here in rhode island this may be the one state where sanders has a better shot, in part because of how rhode island handles its voting. It allows unaffiliated voters who have not chosen a party to do so on primary day. The majority of the voters in rhode island actually consider themselves unaffiliated. If they want to participate in the democratic race, they can do that. Those who want to play on the republican side will have that option. And only 39 of the voters are actually registered as democrats. All four other states that are voting tuesday are whats known as closed primaries, meaning only democrats can participate. For sanders, thats an issue because he often is able to draw support from independent voters. One of the issues that is a dividing line between clinton and sanders, and there are a handful of them, has to do with guns. On the campaign trail in pennsylvania, a place where in parts of that state gun rights are very important to gun owners, Hillary Clinton walked a careful line again, making the case against one of the votes sanders took to try to protect gun makers from lawsuits. She talks about this at many of her events. Here is how she treated it on friday night. Ending the special protection that the congress voted for for gun makers and sellers, i voted against it. My opponent voted for it. It has given a really free hand to gun makers and sellers. Reporter many of their positions on a range of issues are fairly close. So in both cases you find senator sanders and secretary clinton outlining some of the difference. I do think there has been especially from her side, an attempt to not be too critical, again trying to appeal to his supporters who she will eventually try to bring into fold if she wins the nomination. On tuesday she could rack up enough delegates to make that lead even more difficult for him to catch. His campaign acknowledges it will be tough, but they think there is still a path and theyre going to fight on. Francis . Well see that fight continue in the days to come. Nbcs Kelly Odonnell in central falls, maryland. Joining me in baltimore is nbcs chris jansing. Whoa, that umbrella the wind is getting the best of that umbrella. Reporter i give up. Interesting when you see the biggest prize. Where is the campaign focusing their money and attention on in the days ahead . The hood is much better. A lot going to pennsylvania. Bernie sanders is making a stand, saying hes going to be in all five states, thats why hes in maryland in spite of the fact that Hillary Clinton is double digits ahead. Look at this line. People lined up four or five hours before this event, even earlier. What youre seeing is a lot of the young voters attracted to Bernie Sanders. Its something Andrea Mitchell asked him about when she spoke with him just a couple days ago. Take a listen. Will you helper suede your young followers, if she wins the nomination, to follow her the way she campaigned for barack obama . First of all, ive got to find out what her platform is, what the views are that shes going to be bringing forth, to what degree she will adopt many of the ideas that are extremely popular and i think very sensible. But it is again a twoway street. The fact that this conversation is even being had tells you this is a campaign at a critical crossroads. They had to win new york, they did not. What they havent lost is enthusiasm. Not only does this line go all the way down the block, as you can see, its turning around. We can look around and see just how far the line goes, all the way down here. Hes been continuing to draw thousands of people wherever he goes. Its really sbreresting to me, francis, that theyre very savvy about whats going on in this campaign. They can talk about the superdelegates. They know what an uphill climb it is for them. For them its not just about Bernie Sanders getting the nomination. Its about a movement, and thats where the conversation has been moving itself. Having said that, talked to a senior aide, talked to Bernie Sanders. They still are believers. They think something could happen and pull this thing out. If he did, frankly, it would be one of the greatest political comebacks in american history. They havent stopped. Extraordinary to see that long line, but typical of Bernie Sanders supporters. Chris jansing, a very windy baltimore where we certainly owe you an umbrella there. Here to talk about this, phillips former Campaign Manager of bobby jindal. Katy click and jason johnson, politics editor. Good saturday morning. With that, phillip, ill start with you. In reading what came out of the Spring Meeting with the rnc in florida with Reince Priebus saying whoever the no, maam see is, weave got to unite, got to support him. Its interestion when you see the infighting between them. The republican leaders, first denial and then anger. Are they at this point we talked about this before, full acceptance that donald trump will be the nominee . No. Theres a good chance he wont be the nominee. He still needs 58 of the votes. Ted cruz what nobody sees in the press is ted cruz is in each of these states recruiting delegates, having oneonone meetings and winning them over. Hes had this plan for two years now. Trump has been doing it for two weeks. I think the cruz people feel very confident if they can create the momentum out of indiana which will really be the critical state for him. That will tell how it goes from this point forward. Especially with the stop trump movements there as well. We heard from Andrea Mitchell about how far hell take his fight for the nomination. This is what he told her. If after june 7th, after california, if you dont have a majority, if she has a majority and more of the popular vote, would you then concede, endorse her the way she did of barack obama . If we do not have a majority, i think its going to be very hard for us to win. The only fact that i think remains uncertain is, if we continue to be running significantly stronger than she is against donald trump or whoever the republican nominee will be, i think thats a factor. So the read between the lines there could be, okay, hes not going to take this fight to the convention. Is that Bernie Sanders coming to accept the fact that he isnt going to be the democratic nominee . I think sanders has known that all along. Look, outside of some early contests in iowa and new hampshire, Bernie Sanders has always been behind. In many respects he stayed in this race because, number one, he has a message to deliver, number two, very strong supporters and hes not going to quit on the people who spent time, money and effort to get him there. The math just isnt there. I think hes accepted that. He knows full well even if hes polling better than donald trump, those arent the rules. The rules of the game are winning the primary, not winning a general election. It looks like Hillary Clinton right now is winning the primary. Also interesting, katy, when you had the weekend, New York Times asking Hillary Clinton if she could feel the bern. The fine line showing the contrast between her and Bernie Sanders, but also not alienating those potential supporters especially the ones when it comes to general elections shell need them to rally behind her. How tough is that going to be . That could certainly be one of her biggest qualities. That question of how do you mobilize all these supporters who are so passionate and are so passion nate about Bernie Sanders, some of them getting involved in toll ticks for the first time. How do you make sure they remain involved, but come out for the candidate theyve been working against this whole time. At the same time theres a sense in clinton world depending on who the republican nominee is, especially if its donald trump, thats going to be a motivating factor in and of itself when it comes to democratic turnout. Phillip, you look ahead to cleveland and the polls show the people want the person who gets the majority to be the nominee. When it comes to kasich and cruz, contested convention. Have they lost it . Cruz spending hours on end trying to sway these delegates, especially the unbound. How do they go about doing that . I think the critical number 1200. 1237 is the delegate number officials. I think 1200 is more of the perception number. If trump can get more than 1200, some of these unbound delegates i have this wild theory that kasich and cruz form an alliance at the convention and kasich puts his delegates with cruz and theyre the ticket. That may be one of the ways they do this. Interesting. We look ahead, when it comes to donald trump, katie, steps outside the new trump, disciplined trump, softer trump and Hillary Clinton vowing to not respond to insults trump throws her way. Here she is on the campaign trail. Im not going to respond to what he says about me. Ill respond on behalf of all the people who have been the target of his halt red and demagoguery. You can disagree with someone. Thats fair game. But to launch personal attacks to try to intimidate and degrade somebody else is off limits. She says its off limits and not going to respond. Is that realistic in the months to come knowing what we know of donald trump . Its only a fine line for sure. Shes saying shes going to want to respond on behalf of the group that she suggests hes perhaps insulted and at the same time not necessarily get into this sort of day today back and forth with donald trump. Certainly on the republican side, thats proved to be a challenge for a lot of current and former president ial candidates. A lot of them started off saying they would never engage in the back and forth daytoday with donald trump. That was something they were not able to sustain throughout the primary. Jason, i really want to get this in. New york times reporting Hillary Clinton is looking ahead at possible running mates. A whole handful, a dozen, two dozen names out there. Elizabeth warren, could that be a reality . Not a chance. I think when hillary met with Elizabeth Warren in 2015, she mind tricked her, convinced her not to join the race. Hillary clinton would never run the risk of having two women on the ticket and giving the white house to donald trump. Appreciate your time. Thanks for being with me. Phillip stutz, katie gluk, jason johnson, appreciate you being with us on saturday. Pennsylvania democrats will be deciding between more than just Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders on tuesday. Next, a look at the states Democratic State primary. A race turning out to be a knockdown, dagout fight. Well be joined by one of the candidates running for the nomination. The biggest race for the democrats tuesday night will be in pennsylvania where 210 delegates are available. Hillary clinton leads Bernie Sanders by 13 points. Thats not the only race there to watch. A clintonsanders proxy battle is playing out in the democratic primary rate between joe sestak and katie mcginnity, former chief of staff to governor tom wolf. In this state the stakes are high, the senate seat is a mustwin for democrats to regain the majority. The democrats have gone all in for mcginnity, spending millions an even getting an endorsement from obama and Vice President biden. Sestak blasted Party Leaders for the amount of money theyre spending to beat him, accusing them of corrupting the Democratic Party and its mission. Joining me is former democratic congressman from pennsylvania joe sestak. Congressman, i appreciate you being with me this morning. Lets talk about this. You have critics who say, you know what, youre one who doesnt play team ball and you havent been shy about saying youre just not going to be a yes guy. Is that essentially the basis of the divide . I think theres two. One is, im certainly not just a yes guy. When a u. S. Senator says, hey, sestak, when i tell you anything, the only answer is to be yes this is pennsylvania. A senator from another state cant dictate that. Second, as far as team ball, as you probably know i was called the most productive congressman by steny hoyer with 20 pieces of Bipartisan Legislation passed. I represented a republican district, the Second Democratic congressman since the civil war, i won the second race by 20 points in this republican district. I didnt spend a penny on ads. I put out yard signs. We kept our office open seven days a week until 9 00 during the recession to help people. The purpose of the Democratic Party is supposed to be people. I did a walk across the state, 422 miles, to earn the trust of the people again. When you have a Democratic Party that has sought out seven candidates to run against someone who has a 100 voting record on choice, lgbt, environment and labor, when they say give us millions to run against republicans, then they pivot because i didnt just say yes to put millions of it in without telling their donors to use it against a very prog
