Joyce mitchell provided contraband to the escaped killers but did not provide them with power tools to break through their prison cell. This comes as a Community Remains on enj. The manhunt is on its seventh day for the killer whose escaped a maximum security prison in new york. The new search area just miles from the prison. More than 500 Police Officers joined by search dogs and helicopters are combing through dense forests and going door to door. Bloodhound picked up the scent of one or both of the inmates, and that that prompted Law Enforcement to zero in on a roughly 30 acre section of rugged terrain in dannemora, three miles from theclipten correctional facility. Its crazy. Its scary. So close to home. Family in the area has been pulling together. We have been close in contact, making sure we know where everybody is and theyre okay. John yang joins us live from a police road block in morrisonville, new york. Good morning. Good morning, jose. Lets start with what the District Attorneys been telling us about Joyce Mitchell. He was here at the checkpoint a little bit ago to say that to confirm information that Joyce Mitchell had been under investigation within the past year based on a complaint from a guard about her apparent closeness with inmate david sweat, one of those who escaped, was discovered to have escaped on saturday. In addition the District Attorney cleared up one of the Big Questions a lot of people have been wondering about. Im not going to get into the details of exactly what she brought into the facility. I have been consistent with that in this investigation. Im going to continue to be consistent with that in this investigation. But to confirm she has not brought power tools into the facility based on our investigation. He would not get into how they think those power tools did get in. But only to say that Joyce Mitchell was not the source of those. He said Joyce Mitchell was reluctant to give information or gave only minimal information at the beginning of her questioning, but has really become a lot more talkative as days have gone on. Meanwhile, the search has resumed. Its focusing on a 30acre area about three miles or so southeast of the prison. Theyre using dogs. Theyre using helicopters in the search, and its under way again this morning. Jose. John yang thank you very much. I want to bring in contributor and former fbi agent cliff van zand. Good morning. Lets start out with the development. He said Joyce Mitchell brought contraband to the escaped inmates but did not provide power tools. What would that be . Contraband theres at least one report jose that suggestion of contraband is drill bits and hack saw blades. Something that she easily could have smuggled in in her purse and on her person as well as perhaps allowing them to use her cell phone. And the possibility that maybe she has given them either that or other cell phones so they could use once theyre outside or to communicate from the inside out. Let me ask you something. If she didnt give them the actual power tools and the power tools that were being used in the prison are all accounted for, what does that tell you . Where did they come from . If all of the power tools are accounted for, and knowing most prisons, when you look at where the tools are, theres a black outline on a board where you hang that tool up. So the guards can just look on that board and say, hey, theres a drill missing. Theres a saw missing. They lockdown the whole prison until they find that. So if in fact thats not the case, then it has to suggest the tools came in otherwise. We know workers have been in and out of that prison from the outside, did they accidentally louvre a tool and it disappeared . Did they provide the tools willingly . Thats part of the internal investigation while authorities are handling the fugitive investigation outside. And mrs. Mitchell has yet to be charge said with anything. Let me ask you about the 30acre search area. You know early on last week we were talking about the possibility that they were anywhere from canada to mexico to philadelphia. What tells you about this 30acre area and why do you they think theyre concentrating there right now . Jose theyve got nothing to indicate these guys got out of the area. No stolen cars stolen trucks. They cant put them on a train. They cant put them on a bus. Theres no transportation that theyve been able to identify whatsoever, and as you know, theyve had recent findings of candy bar wrappers on the ground where they may have slept for the night. There was a sighting at a gas station. That gas station has a subway restaurant. They could well be doing remember eric rudolph, the socalled olympic park bomber. He was going behind restaurants at night doing dumpster diving going in pulling out food and using that to eat. These guys could very well be feeding themselves that way. More breaking news on the president s trade push. I want to bring in Kristen Welker at the white house. Good morning. The president heading over to capitol hill. Thats right. Breaking news jose. We just learned moments ago, according to a democratic aide on capitol hill president obama is going to be attending a meeting this morning with House Democrats ahead of a really important vote later on today. In fact democrats, republicans, are going to vote on two pieces of legislation that could ultimately give president Obama Fast Track Authority to secure a broader trade deal a landmark trade agreement, which is really one of his signature pieces and key goals of his second term. Now, heres whats at stake, jose. In this case you have democrats who a lot of them are opposed to this. They have expressed concern this will cost jobs. President obama, the white house, pushing back saying that the trade deal has protections against any job losses any Environmental Impact that we might see. But again, a lot of democrats are skeptical about this trade deal. Now, again, just to be clear, jose, whats at stake today are two pieces of legislation that would ultimately give president Obama Fast Track Authority to secure a broader trade deal. And in order to get it he needs democrats onboard. So that is why youre seeing this fullcourt press from president obama himself. This is not something we have typically seen from this white house, so this morning, hes meeting with House Democrats. Last night, he went to a congressional softball game to try to secure those lastminute key votes. One of the things that well be watching for today, jose is what Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi does. She could be key to making sure that these two pieces of legislation in fact pass. White house officials tell me they have been working very closely with Nancy Pelosis team trying to get her onboard with these two pieces of legislation. I am told that this is going to be a nail biter, still a lot of people are cautiously optimistic that these two pieces of legislation will pass ultimately giving president Obama Fast Track Authority to secure that landmark trade deal that hes hoping to get. The fbi has arrested a second man in connection to that plot. Officials say necklace ruvinsky of rhode island was aware of plans by usama rahim to carry out attacks with knives. Rahim was shot to death last week by police and fbi agents seeking to question him. Police and the fbi searched the home for several days last week and took him in for questioning. He was arrested last week and we expect charges to be announced any minute. Pete williams will join me with more on this story as soon as the charges are unveiled. Now to whats shaping up to be an important weekend in president ial politics. Hillary clinton is gearing up for her campaigns ceremonial kickoff. Reports say shell evoke franklin roosevelt, but her speech not expected to focus on policy but her personal story. Half a dozen republicans are heading west in hopes of a gold rush. Mitt romney is hosting prominent members of his own party. Some already in the 2016 race. Those republicans are hoping to woo the 2012 nominee and his friends with deep pockets. One guy who hasnt even said if hes running is already talking about forming a ticket with marco rubio. I have had quite a few people, grassroots supporters donors and others make that suggestion. Marco is a formidable candidate. Well see where things happen. Marco and i joke about it that people mention it. We would probably have to arm wrestle over who would be top on the ticket. Its fair to say theyre going to be getting probably most of the attention out there. Whos going to be the star this weekend . I dont know about you, but i think whoever can win the arm wrestling contest is obviously the star out here in park city. No, im kidding, obviously. But marco rubio is somebody who has impressed many of the donors here over time. Partly because during romneys campaign in 2012 he was viewed as somebody who was very helpful, who was willing to go wherever the campaign wanted him to willing to work whatever hours. Its also important to keep an eye on john kasich. Hes starting to put his toes further and further into the water, and hes doing that because as he said pretty candidly, he doesnt feel like jeb bush has taken the air out of the room. Jeb bush of course not here. Still on his european tour. One of his sons is here potentially representing him. Theres been tension between jeb bush and mitt romney. It will be interesting to get a feel for how some of the donors here feel about where bushs campaign has gone so far. And were learning a bit of what we can expect to hear from Hillary Clinton this weekend. One is a story about her mom, which is a substantial shift from 2008 when she was fiercely protective of her mother. Campaign aides tell me this speech will be very personal, which is a marked contrast from 20008, and also the Hillary Clinton we have seen so far this year. Shell focus on the story of her mother, who was abandoned as a child, sent to live with really cruel relatives and ran away from home at 14. Kind of made her own way in the world. And Hillary Clinton will say that story, her mothers experience and trauma made her want to get into public life to be an advocate for women and children and people who cant fight for themselves. Thats the entire purpose shes running for president. Shell also lay out policy and get into economic tones, but this is the first time well hear Hillary Clinton talk about her personal motivation for running for president and lay out of the rationale. This is pretty unusual to see the president of the United States last night at the congressional softball game taking selfies with everybody, Walking Around the field, and look at these pictures. I mean, this could be a campaign stop, but its actually where republicans and democrats house members are playing softball and today heading to capitol hill. Whats going on . I tell you, jose the fact that this that a president ial visit to the hill is so is considered rare in year seven of a presidency is a reminder, i this happen, of how much this administration in particular has struggled managing congressional relationships on either side of the aisle. Weve always been focused lately on the rough relations between this white house and congressional republicans. But its not as if this white house has had great relationships with congressional democrats. And by the way, if this thing goes down thats where the roots of this going down came from. Thats where they sort of grew out from what has been just terrible tending to of even allies on capitol hill by this president. Has he been working for a while now on the democrats . Because it seems as though if you just take this as a cold analysis and youre saying now, three hours before the vote he goes to capitol hill . Or has he been behind the scenes working with democrats . They have been working behind the scenes. This isnt a case he hasnt been doing that. Thats been done. Look, i tell you, it is amazish watching House Democrats. Theyre shooting at each other in ways we havent seen this Democratic Party in the house of representatives do in a long time. Frankly, they look like the way senate they look like the way the conservatives in the house caucus fight with each other normally and make John Boehners life miserable. Youre seeing the same effort playing out here. We know a majority of House Democrats are against this deal and i think part of it is while labor has less influence today in american politics than they have had since the creation of the movement as a political force, among the House Democrats, they still have influence because of gerrymandering. So many House Democrats represent strong democratic districts that labors threat of primaries and primaries have deeth because they can do that. Its similar to say a club for growth on the right. Who really cant have an impact in a general election but can in a primary. Lets talk about isis, the paulolicy of 450 additional troops sent to iraq to train folks to fight isis. Is this you know is this something were going to be dealing with through 2016 . Obviously, well be dealing with it through then. Look theres clearly a divide between the military leaders and the civilian leaders on what to do in iraq. I think the military people have said to the president and his team that you know this strategy isnt going to work. Additional trainers probably arent going to be the answer here to actually getting, you know, finishing the goal of destroying isis. It probably means more troops. This president is determined not to hand his successor a quagmire of any sort and i think that the problem they have is any time they war game a scenario. Lets say, they say okay, fine, well send 20,000 stroops in destroy isis in iraq. Then what do you do about them in syria . Thats another problem. I think theres no nobody has been able to give the president a plan that says heres how you defeat them and then be able to get out. Because nobody believes defeating them means being able to get out after you defeat them or Something Else will rise up in its place. Chuck, iraq then syria, then libya, then this place, then that place, and wherever they come up. What can we expect to see on meet the press which i watch every sunday .
