The San Francisco Unified School District will offer free meals in the school year regardless of family indm and continue efforts to ensure all children receive healthy meal in San Francisco. I want to encourage you and reminds families to fill out the Family Income form that is not needed to qualify for free meal its is a driver for funding and allow families to qualify for additional benefits like reduced price. Make sure to fill that out. And lastly, you hopefully seen it on a billboards and on twitter posts and the San Francisco hiring, we are working hard to expand our efforts to hire throughout the 2223 school year. Come lineup and as always for give me if i mispronounce your name. Madison williams. Chris claus. Philip i cant read the last name. Aaron bullock. And natalie. Go ahead. Good. Okay. Im Madison Williams i was an educator this summer with the Credit Recovery program. I was not paid 2400 dollars pretax in Summer School wages on our july 29th paycheck. I became severely ill with covid in june and paid upon 16 cents an hour for my leave rart than my contracted hourly wage. When i reported the errors my hope to get was the deleted out of the system several days later. No one knows where the original Health Ticket went and payroll is figuring out how to pay me and other Summer School teachers who contracted covid. Im treated from the affects of the virus it is hurt my ability to breathe. I suffer from post comp i haved syndrome. I would like to focus on my recovery instead of here for the millionth time this year asking you to pay correctly. I would li recovery instead of here for the millionth time this year asking you to pay correctly. Syndrome. I would like to focus on my recovery instead of here for the millionth time this year asking you to pay correctly. Im chris. Teacher at washington high school. I personally experienced and heard photographer too many pay issues from colleagues at washington and the district. You just heard from one of my colleagues. The issues are harming our educators, communities and students. With more than 100 vacancies and as we move toward the start of the school year, sfusd is failing students by failing to pay those of us serving them. Health tickets unanswerd and impossible to reach a human being who takes the time to help us. Sfusd cannot hope to attract educator when is they fail to pay what we are worth and fail to pay us correctly or at all on top of that. Im in my sixth year but if this continues i will follow those who have left. Thank you. Im philip i work at sherman elementary the leadership and class is in session put out your phones and look at banking apps and look under credits. Is your paycheck missing what would happen if half of your payment was not deposited. Imagine if all of your check was not deposited would you move to a shelter. Car repoed. Hundreds of educators are not getting paid. Fully staff the Payroll Department and pay everyone in full. Thank you. Good evening im ann, this is my 18th year from San Francisco a parent of a graduate. Im here to speak on my experience. I had to pay a sick thousand dollars tax fee. Half sick days were cut in half and a grievance not finished. I dont have my Life Insurance it has been deducted but not deposited. Im asking where is the money i know im not alone we need to you fix this problem the payroll and have fully staffed payroll that is available for us when we call in and not wait for ticket to being answered. Wee need our pay educators to be paid especially Summer School teachers and early ed educator to be paid. We need the b and Health Benefits issues fixed. Thank you. Good evening im natalie im the Vice President of substitutes united educators of San Francisco. 15 year teacher and librarian and parent of 2 public School Students. This is the leadership of San Francisco unified district. And we need to see that you are stepping up to do a number of things so we ensure our students have the schools they deserve. The back of our tshirt say we are fighting for the schools. The first step is to immediately fix empower. We have put out a plan to do that and we expect it to be followed so no person come back in september and share the stories that educators shared with us today. That is the first step. There are 15 Million Dollars on on going fundses and 70 Million Dollars of one time fund this is need to be used creatively to address the very real problems we face for educators. I want to speak to subsidiary. We need to be creative about how substitutes are placed at thank you. Next 5 speakers. Kristin. Terence. Rafael. Aaron young. And jackson. Im a teacher from local high school. I have been teaching in this district for over 27 years i had the opportunity and past to lead this district but im committed to leaving and staying here and working at the district and working with the community in which i live. However under empower this past year has been changing for meant teachers i work with. And we have also a special Ed Department that is under staffed. Making it challenging for those teachers there and making it dangerous for the kid that are not getting the help they need. [applause] im terence teaching for 15 years [inaudible]. And i want to ejo the passion and experience of my fellow educators and add i have been a youth baseball coach. We had 8 players when we have 8 players no matter how much heart we bring to the game we will not be as good as if we had 9 players. My team were not a made for hollywood movie. Schools are not either. We need a school board and leadership that can take care of payroll issue, keep our schools funded. Thank you. Im a little short. Im rafael. Im 1021 School District chapter president. You will hear from our members front line members with true stories what they are suffering they are not getting paid properly. We people want to retire. District is 6 to 8 months behind in contribute to retirement our members lose interest. The 403 bs the money taken out of paychecks but not given to the institutions that we ask they be begin to. So we are losing interest there. We have hardship. People are not able to pay rent. Not able to pay bills this is ridiculous. And empower was a loser from the beginning and a loser now. Why are we still that work on the program that is not working for the district. Obviously, when they release today in early january, major problems. Cost the district more money than the program cost the district. Get rid of empower and bring back the old system it was not broke it should not have been fixed. Thank you. Good eviling im a graduate and 6 year teacher at mlk middle school. Im okay with 7 staff short. We head to the next school year next week. There is an addition to positions consolidated due to budget am cuts. Increased the class size. We serve the highest percentage of student in thes district. And the vast majority of students are students of color. Short staff is an equity issue how can we improve student out come in over crowded classrooms with over worked teachers or no teachers at all if you pay teachers on time we can focus on our students rather than how we pay rent and buy groceries if you keep them low and fully starch our schools we focus education rather than management. Instead of blaming families and increasing teacher work loads fix empower. Pay to match the cost of living and staff our schools to focus. Thank you. Superintendent, commissioners im aaron young and im a history teacher at local high school. Would you work if your employer neglected pay you for a month. 2, how about 7. It is the 7th month. Why are you asking us to return to wednesday . Some of us are not being paid and some of our teachers are on Maternity Leave lost Health Insurance what do they need to do to get paid go on strike . Light [inaudible] on fire. Now we have lost teachers because you failed to pay us. Of we cannot hire new teachers because you are failing to pay us. If you want to put students first you put the Teachers First i want to [inaudible] [inaudible] [inaudible] and [inaudible] thank you. [applause] next 5 speakers. Alex. Tianna hillary. [inaudible]. Amber
