Eyewitness News Reporter rob nelson is live in midtown with tonights reaction. Has been strong and its been swift. Its also reignited a debate that we as a country have had had time and time again since 9 11. The need for security versus the right to privacy. Reporter the judges order basically directs apple to create new software that would allow the federal government to bust through encryption and unlock the cell phone of San Bernardino shooter syed farook. That information could provide critical information about the case but there are also strong concerns about whether this unprecedented step jeopardizes all americans privacy. We have apple and the companies that are out there to protect our privacy and they say once the dam is broken, once weve opened the door for that barn, all the horses get out. In regards to national security, the security of our nation comes priority to our own. Reporter apple is vowing to fight this, calling the judges order a chilling overreach. Ceo tim cook wrote, quote, the u. S. Government has asked us for something we do not have and something too dangerous to create. Theyve asked us to create a backdoor to the iphone. Going forward were increasingly blind for terrorism purposes and for general Law Enforcement purposes with the new devices. Its absolutely a moral argument. Nothing would be more devastating to this country than a successful attack on its biggest city. I hope a middle ground is found and there is a very specific, very protective mechanism and all the appropriate guards created to open cases like this. The major concern according to apple is once this new software would get created theres no guarantee it would be one cell phone, that it could basically impact millions of americans. Some believe this case could wind up in the hands of the Supreme Court. This remains such a volatile issue in this age of cyber crimes and identity theft. Rob nelson, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Simply wait for the temperatures to come up. Thursday theres more sunshine in the afternoon. But friday we see the winds settle down and a few clouds roll in for the afternoon hours so i think thursday maybe looks better but you put up with the winds. Then youve got clouds on friday but at least no wind. A little bit of a trade off there. Teens in the suburbs. 27 for the city. Well go up to 37 tomorrow afternoon. It will feel chilly at times. Be wear of that. Heres the accuweather 7day forecast. A couple things stick out here. Breezy and mild over the weekend for saturday. We lose the wind on sunday. Temperatures in the low 50s. We hold on to the stretch of really nice weather over the weekend. All in all this nice mild pattern that takes our temperatures in the upper 50s are going to continue. Were going to continue with that feel until early in the week. Then well be tracking a coastal storm. Monday still looks decent but that we actually see the chance for things to really get a little more interesting around here. It is a sunny start to the week but by tuesday youll want all the tracking gear in place because that will be the place for change. The coastal storm has to tap in to much colder air for the north in order for this to turn in to storm. Well call it a winter storm threat. We may get a winter snow mix. That will do it for now. Ill have another update on what potentially is going to be the difference between friday and saturday just temperatures coming up in a few minutes.
