Taking those extra couple minutes to drive in today, because you dont want to have that slipup and have the weather change like that and your life is gone. Just when neighbors thought city inspectors shut it down that motel is up and running again. The Liberty Motel is on germantown avenue near broad and westmoreland streets. Reporter jim the motel is right across the street from bethune elementary school. Drugs and prostitution is documented in these documents ive obtained from the city. I feel like a hostage. Reporter a north Philadelphia Motel is making neighbors feel like captives in their own homes. I dont feel safe. My kids cant even go out and play. Its dangerous and unsafe. Reporter for at least two decades, neighbors, police and lawmakers clashed with the owners of Liberty Motel on germantown avenue with drugs and crime around the property. They come right back. Reporter licenses and inspections shut it down in early december. Only for the motel to reopen just last friday after the owner made repairs and paid the necessary fees. Vernon jackson is the head of mantd nance at the motel. He said hes been on the job for only three months. We cant stop when someone does things. They have their privacy and we have to respect their privacy. When they pay their money. Reporter heard loud and clear from neighbors. Statistics for the motel, in 11 years Police Responded to more than 1,800 calls at the motel, or within a block of it. 46 arrests for various crimes, 116 arrests for prostitution. And responded to 20 deaths mostly drug related. I went to the motels front desk where the manager told me the owner from north jersey was not available to talk to me. He also did not return my calls. Lawmakers say theyre working to shut down the motel to give neighbors independence from liberty. Prostitution and crime, and, you know drug activity. That is unacceptable. In Burlington County tonight, an emotional gathering for a newborn whose death shocked the community. Nbc 10 mourners gathered to remember an infant girl they named angel baby. They lit candles outside the church. Investigators say the baby was burned to death by her own mother. She is charged with murder. She is accused of dousing her newborn with an accelerant and setting her on fire last friday. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court will hear arguments in march in the Kathleen Kane investigation. Today the Supreme Court unsealed records showing the grand jury found there are grounds to charge the Pennsylvania Attorney general with perjury, obstruction, and more. Kane argues there was no legal basis for the appointment of a special prosecutor. That prosecutor led the grand jury investigation. Kane says she asked the normally secret grand jury records to be released to show what she calls problems in the process. They start looking for a grand jury they cant find a grand jury leak. And jurors agreed convicting him on all counts today. The victims lost around 340,000. The judge says tof elllefson will be sentenced in 30 days. The turnpike crash seriously injured tracy morgan settled a wrongful death claim with walmart. James was riding with morgan last june when a walmart tractortrailer slammed into their limo. Mcnair died. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury. Authorities say the trucks driver hadnt slept more than 24 hours. Details of the settlement are unknown. Take a look at the spreading flames here at the avalon in edge water. The fire started around 4 30 this afternoon. Crews thought they had it under control and then it flared up in the back portion of the complex. And at this hour there are still hot spots. 400 people were evacuated. This is ground video as the fire tore through the roof of one unit. Firefighters carried residents out of this burning building. The same apartment complex burned to the ground when it was built in 2000. It was redesigned to appeal to new york city commuters. Tonight, we learned the mans family hired a law firm to do an independent investigation. The move follows the release of dash cam video of last months incident. Two officers pulled a car over for running a stop sign. Reed was the passenger. The officers found a gun in the car and removed it from the vehicle. They washed reed not to move. When he got out of the car with his hands raised, the officers shot him. Now activists are calling on the prosecutor to transfer the case to the state attorney general. Jerome reed complied to the officers demands. Got out of the car. And he received a hail of bullets. The Cumberland County prosecutors would not take questions about the case today. The two officers involved are suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. This video just in from philadelphias East Germantown section. A robbery and shooting at a grocery store, happening at 9 00 tonight. One person was shot. Its not clear who that person is, or how seriously they were hurt. Were working to find out more. A scammer targeted people staying at a mount laurel hotel. Someone called the rooms of about 15 guests at a hotel on fellowship road. They claimed to work at the front desk and need their credit card number to verify the Security Code on the card. Police tell us most of the people last night realized it was a scam. But several did not, and the thief quickly ran up charges. Police call it the Hotel Front Desk scam. A surprise turn in the race for philadelphia mayor tonight. Ken trujillo announced today he is dropping out of the race. The former City Solicitor and former prosecutor said Family Matters need his full attention. There are now five candidates running. The major roadways like the dupont highway here were pretty good throughout the evening. From the snowcovered tops of mailboxes, to the sloshing sound of a passing truck, northern and central delaware truly looked the season tonight. It was heavy for a while. Reporter worried this might become a more troublesome storm. Nbc 10 drove more than 50 miles through delaware tonight. We found major roadways in good condition. Even when the snow was falling more heavily. But we also saw side roads, like this one, clearly untouched by plows and salting. Just drove slow and it was fine. Reporter did it like you were supposed to. Exactly. Reporter this driver was smart on that front. The commute was slushy as cars rolled to a stop. We could see their wheels skidding just slightly. And with temperatures just below freezing overnight, this mother daughter pair had very different thoughts about tomorrow morning. I like building a snowman. Is this enough for a snowman .
