Police have three people in custody in philadelphias old city neighborhood. Jesse gary is live at the scene. Reporter just within the past couple of minutes, Philadelphia Police reopened the intersection of second and chestnut. As a matter of fact, a couple of blocks on chestnut were shut down. Theyve now been reopen. This all started at a parking lot near black horse alley and second, which is close to second and chestnut here in old city. Apparently three men in a cadillac opened fire at one victim and then they speed off out of that parking lot to come down here to chestnut and go the wrong way on chestnut which is westbound on chestnut even though chestnut is one way headed eastbound. They go the wrong way down the block, swerve on to a sidewalk nearly running over a Philadelphia Police officer. Two officers opened fire at that vehicle. They ultimately arrest the three people inside three men, they have been taken into custody. The one victim those men were shooting at that person has been taken to the hospital. He was hit in the leg. Were getting late word of a possible second victim at sixth and mifflin. Im digging into that. Ill have that for you in 30 minutes. Jesse gary, nbc 10 news. Philadelphia is react the to shooting death of Police Officer Robert Wilson iii. People continue to build a makeshift memorial at the Video Game Store where officer wilson was killed. Police Officials Say two men walked into the store on thursday and announced a robbery, unaware the officer was already inside buying a gift for his son. Gunfire broke out. Police say Surveillance Video shows officer wilson acted quickly, moving away from customers before firing and then getting shot. Officials and mourners agree, his actions, likely saved patrons and employees. I got the news that he had passed, i mean my heart im still grieving shaking. When you look at the actions of the officer, he redefined what a hero is all about. Police arrested Ramon Williams and his brother, carlton hipps. Williams was arraigned last night. Hipps was injured in a shootout. Hipps is in the hospital wearing officer williams handcuffs. The Philadelphia Police cadet unit honored officer williams, presenting colors during a National Anthem before last nights sixers game. St. Martin de Porres Church will remember him. Happening today, a vigil will be held for the victim of a deadly hit and run in the holmesburg section of philadelphia. Teresa posey was killed crossing state road two days before christmas. Investigators say she was hit by a tow truck and the driver never stopped. Surveillance video captured the truck speeding down the road. The police have yet to make an arrest. The victims family tells nbc 10 teresa would have turned 34 this weekend and they still have hope her killer will be brought to justice. New jersey senator bob menendez maintains his innocence. The allegations stem from a federal investigation into the senators ties. The florida eye doctor and political donor solomon melgen. Last night a defiant menendez denied any wrongdoing. Let me be very clear. Very clear. I have always conducted myself appropriately and in accordance with the law. The department of justice is expected to bring criminal charges against menendez in the next few weeks. Happening today in Delaware Police and Civic Leaders will host a discussion on reducing violence in wilmington. Its scheduled for the Hanover Presbyterian Church this morning at 9 00. Police beat demonstrators who were marching from selma to montgomery alabama. Several weeks later, some 30,000 protesters completed their march to montgomery county. It was a journey thats been described as the last revolution of the Civil Rights Movement a final step towards equality including the right to vote. We were determined to get the rights for all people regardless of the color of their skin. To determine their own destiny. President lyndon b. Johnson signed the Voting Rights act a few months later which gave africanamericans the right to vote. South jersey congressman Donald Norcross will be in selma today. He believes its important to commemorate the famous Civil Rights Movement. In many ways we have come so far, being there with the president to celebrate the 50th anniversary of how much weve changed but quite frankly how far we still need to go. Norcross says he hopes the unity inspired by selma translates to the u. S. Congress. In madison, wisconsin, protesters are calling the shooting death of a 19yearold man by police unjustified. Last night, officers responded to the report of a man walking in traffic and hitting pedestrians. An officer followed him to a house. According to the police chief, the officer went inside the home and was attacked by the man. There was a struggle before the officer pulled out his gun and shot him. President obama says this weeks Justice Department report on the police in ferguson missouri exposes a system in need of an overall. The Justice Departments investigation followed the deadly shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown by a white Police Officer. Attorney general eric holder said his department would use its full authority to reform the Ferguson Police which could even more dismantling the force. So far, two Ferguson Police officials have resigned in the wake of the report while a third was fired. Yesterday, the president told a college audience in South Carolina about the choice fergusons police force now faces. Are they going to enter into some sort of agreement with the Justice Department to fix what is clearly a broken and racially biased system or if they dont, then the Justice Department has the capacity to sue the city. The doj report said police in ferguson consistently violated citizens civil rights. Beer distributors in pennsylvania now have the goahead to sell beer by the 12 pack. Yesterday the states liquor control board announced the ruling. Until now, distributors have only sold beer by the case or keg. Supporters of the decision say it will make pricey specialty beers more affordable for consumers since they could be available in 12 packs instead of a whole case.
