A teenager saved him from his burning cruiser. Now the search is on for the driver who collided with the officers car and took off at the scene at 28th and tasker streets in south philadelphia last night. Matt delucia is live at Police Headquarters this morning, and investigators do have some leads in this case. Reporter yeah, two people were rushed to the hospital last night, including the Police Officer, and he is still recovering this morning, thanks in large part to the Good Samaritans who ran to help. I saw that it was a cop car, and right then i just started sprinting. Reporter it was just before 5 30 last night at 28th and tasker, joe chambers says instinct kicked in. Right when we pulled them out, the fire started to reach the interior of the car and it caught fire like a minute after we pulled him out. Reporter this 17yearold is a volunteer firefighter. He trained for a situation just like this. The door he says was stuck. The window shattered. As cell phone cameras rolled, other bystanders jumped in as well. If it was me in the situation, somebody would try to pull me out, so i feel like i did my good deed for the night. Ror poli we were just trying to preserve life. We helped the cop out and it was a guy slumped over. We pulled him out, tried to get him as far away as possible before that thing blow up. Reporter both that passenger he was hurt pretty bad. Reporter and the officer were rushed to the hospital as the cruiser burned. Joe visited the officer late last night, realizing that his good timing may have made all the difference. Within a few minutes, the whole car was in flames. Reporter police say the driver was running down the 2800 block of tasker street. This was about 5 30, 6 00 last night. After being freed from captivity in north korea. 25yearold Matthew Miller seen here hugged his parents as he walked off a plane in Washington State right around midnight. Miller was arrested last spring for reportedly ripping up his visa when he traveled to north korea. He was sentenced to six years of hard labor. Kenneth bae, the other american held captive, was all smiles when he got off the plane. He greeted his family on the tarmac. Bae had been in north korea for two years. He spoke after being reunited with his loved ones. I learned a lot. I grew a lot. Lost a lot of weight. In a good way. But i am standing strong because of you. He secured their release through a secret mission to north korea. Back in our area, a woman in her 30s was shot in the head and killed in the hunting park section of philadelphia overnight. Nbc 10 was on this scene along rowan street. Police have not made any arrests in the shooting death, and they have not released the womans identity. Philadelphia police are also investigating another deadly shooting this morning. This one happened in north philadelphia as well. Police tell us that a 25yearold man was shot in the leg and the back at 18th street in west gerard avenue. There are no arrests in this case either. Drivers of a recently launched Ride Sharing Service in philadelphia could soon find themselves under arrest if they continue to drop off and pick people up. Thats according to the philadelphia parking authority. The ppa tells us that uber x drivers already face 1,000 fines and the risk of having their vehicles impounded. Now they could be arrested by the cops. Uber x is different from the regular uber service because the uber x drivers are personal citizens using their own cars. Since it launched late last night, the ppa has impounded 14 vehicles. The Ride Sharing Program has been controversial in cities all across the country, not just in philly. Its even happening in europe because it competes with regulated taxi services. This morning, police are look for a trio of thieves who broke into a Philadelphia Charter School and stole four computers. You can see the destruction they left behind. Police are looking for the three young men from these surveillance photos. School officials said they do not recognize the men in the pictures, thats why they need your help. He stole the cell phone of a woman who was struck by a train and killed. He stole the phone just moments after it happened. According to investigators, the man saw the phone land on the platform. Police claim he faked a worried look about the tragedy, then covered the phone with his foot and then grabbed it. He then just walked away. 24 hours after releasing this surveillance video, the man turned himself into police. He is now facing larceny charges.
