This morning we are following breaking news out of bucks county where police shot a man they say was driving a stolen car when he tried to run down an officer. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live along route 1 in falls township. Reporter it ended over my left shoulder. This is the entrance ramp to southbound route 1 in falls township. The vehicle is off to the righthand side of the road. We have video of it. Well take a look at that. This is where the suspect actually crashed his car after being shot once in his chest. It began at 5 30 this morning, outside a 7eleven in morrisville about a mile and a half north of where i am on bridge street. That was at the intersection of pennsylvania and bridge. A Morrisville Police officer drives through and sees the vehicle idling in the parking lot of this 7eleven with no one doesnt see anybody inside the car. He thinks its suspicious runs the plate, the plates pick up a hit that the vehicle is stolen. The Police Officer blocks that car in gets out, orders whomever is inside out of the vehicle. At that point the suspect puts the car in reverse, rams the officers car and knocks the officer down to the ground and takes off, speeds off, heading south on bridge street. At a certain point, right here at the bend in the road he loses control, hits the concrete median and shoots back across the roadway up into the woods. The suspects have been taken to st. Marys hospital in critical but stable condition, hit once in the chest. The hospital was taken to a hospital here in bucks. The police chief says all of this could have been prevent. What really deters me is this is a stolen car from bristol that was left running in the morning time so somebody could warm their car up. This is so dangerous to my officers. Ive been trying to tell everybody for months now, please dont leave your vehicles running. You. Know, its so cold out, thats why people are doing this, they want to try and get warmth in the vehicle, get the engine going before they come back outside. The chief says its been a problem this winter. So cold but it only takes a couple of seconds for somebody to jump in the car and take off with it. The officer had injuries to his arm. Hes at a local hospital here in bucks. Coming up in the next 30 minutes ill tell you more about this officer and how after being knocked to the ground literally run over he was still able to pursue the suspect. Septa tells us that a car hit a route 15 trolley around 3 00 this morning at west girard avenue and North Lawrence street. The car also hit several parked vehicles. According to septa, the driver of that car fled from the scene nobody was hurt. Also new from overnight philadelphia water crews are fixing a broken main in feltonville. Nbc 10 was on rising sun avenue where water started pouring out of the pipe around 4 00 this afternoon. A lot of the water that didnt drain away turned to ice. Thats a problem in that neighborhood. We are working to find out if anybody is without service right now. I do have a message out to the Water Department. As soon as i hear anything ill keep you posted. This morning we are hearing from a witness about a house fire we first brought to you as breaking news last night. A man died in the blaze that broke out at 53rd and kingsessing streets around 11 00. Got the gate door open i kicked the door in. So once i kicked the door in i rushed in there but the fire was it was crazy. The victims name has not been released. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Today Funeral Services will be held in Chester County for murdered College Freshman karlie hall. 18yearold hall who was from chadds ford attended Millersville University near lancaster. Police say her boyfriend killed her last weekend. Millersville students wore purple yesterday to raise awareness about dating violence. Hall and her boyfriend had been dating for about a year. Police have charged 19yearold Gregorio Orrostieta with first degree murder. Investigators say he beat and strangled karlie hall in her dorm room last sunday. Roselyn kornegay whos from Kennett Square is not a student at millersville. He will be back in court this week for a preliminary hearing. District attorneys all across pennsylvania say theyre planning to challenge governor tom wolfs decision to suspend the states death penalty. Governor wolf called the States CapitalPunishment Program flawed experiencive and unjust. Now he says hes waiting for a review of the system before he signs death warrants. Supporters of the governors policy point to high reversal rates, insufficient defense for the accused and high costs for the reasons for the review. If thats not evidence that our system really is not working and needs to be more carefully looked at i dont know what could be. What he did was thoughtful, prudent and appropriate. Since the 1970s only three people have been executed in pennsylvania. While dozens of other death sentences are on appeal. New this morning, overseas police in egypt say they stopped a suicide car bomb attack on a Police Station in sinai. Police fired at two cars involved which then exploded just before reaching the Police Station. Islamic militants are believed to be behind these attacks. In canada authorities there say they put a stop to plans of a valentines day massacre. According to police, the two suspects, a 23yearold woman and 19yearold man were planning to go to a mall in halifax and kill as many people as they could before committing suicide. The woman connected to the plot is from illinois. Police arrested her yesterday. The 19yearold man killed himself after officers surrounded his house. The time right now is 9 10. Keep that in mind over the weekend. An 8yearold california girl is in stable condition this morning after being shot by her 10yearold sister with their fathers gun. The girls father is a lieutenant with the fresno sheriffs department. Police say the shooting was an accident. The girls father had removed the magazine from his gun while getting ready for work but there was a bullet in the chamber. This morning were learning more about craig hicks, the man accused of killing three college students. All the victims in this case were muslim and hicks has criticized all religions on social media. Calls are growing for the fbi to launch a hate Crime Investigation into the shooting. Oregons longtime governor has announced his resignation amid a scandal. Democrat John Kitzhaber says his resignation will be effective wednesday. This all comes among suspicion that his fiance used her relationship to land contracts for her business.
