The snow showers are going to be here to start with but not be around all day. And theres cape may, which is showing things are pretty quiet. The radar, it is inland that were seeing the snow showers from new castle into philadelphia and farther north and west. Well see the snow showers to begin with and then well clear out this afternoon. Light, scattered dustings of snow this morning. Right now the temperature is 26 degrees in philadelphia. Though its colder for millville and allentown. Atlantic city is 10 degrees right now. Well be in the 30s this afternoon. Thats where well see some sunshine. Back with the future weather, well go through it hour by hour when im back in ten. Starting things off in center city a live look at the vine street expressway quiet in both directions. This is the vine near 95. Typically during the rush hour well see volume northbound heading to 76 but right now no delays in either direction. The pennsylvania turnpike you can see the lines of green. No accidents or delays. We have a little bit of yellow here through the construction zone, but no big delays to report. 22 to 24 minutes is what were seeing. As far as your drive times go both ways between ben salem and valley forge. Thanks. To the deep freeze that continues across the delaware valley, its making it hard to melt the ice covering rivers and streams. Just ask the men and women who work on the water every day. Breaking up the huge chunks of ice is no easy task. Matt delucia is live in camden along the Delaware River. Matt, how often are these folks trying to get through the ice and what effect does this have on the rest of us . Reporter pretty frequently. Several big boats and ships commercial ships that come through the delaware each and every day, so when you get ice out there, it can cause a lot of problems. Certain ily theres a lot of money out here. Theres still ice in parts of this area despite this. Take a look yesterday the coast guard was out here on the delaware with 65foot icebreaking tugboats. This is what the operation looks like from one of the large cutters. Now for you and me it may not be a commercial ship but maybe the cape may louis ferry we take every day. This time of the year many depend on the service between new jersey and delaware. The Delaware River and Bay Authority tells me they have had to cancel a dozen trips in the past ten days. And its beenr. More than a decade since that has happened. But if you think this is bad, consider that in the winter of 1977 the ferry had to cancel trips for 45 consecutive days because of ice. This year its not as bad, but a rough winter indeed. As we take a live look out here on the delaware the coast guard says this ice breaking will continue for as long as the ice stays out here. Lawmakers have hours left to prevent a partial shut down of the department of Homeland Security. The funding runs out at midnight, less than 19 hours away. House republicans agreed to push for a shortterm deal to fund the Homeland Security for three weeks without repealing president obamas immigration policy. The question is whether democrats go along with the shortterm deal. And theres a senate deal to only fund dhs. And this morning a judge says theres a civil lawsuit against penn state and former coach Jerry Sandusky rules that although the State College is 200 miles from philadelphia, it does not appear to be a burden to the school. They believe the university would not have been affected if the school reacted to this case against sandusky. And many will gather in bridgeton, Cumberland County to protest the Deadly Police shooting. Show me your hands show me your [ bleep ] hands. Dont move this dash cam shows the moment leading up to the shooting of jermaine reid. He was riding in a car pulled over by two Police Officers in december. The video shows a Tense Exchange after the officers spotted a gun in the car and the officer tells him to stay in the car. Reid was then shot and killed when he got out of the car. The Cumberland County Prosecutors Office is handling the information. But some believe they are dragging their feet. The group called the National Awareness alliance is organizing the protest. They will have four buses bringing protesters from newark and philadelphia to bridgeton. And new this morning, we have learned that the officer involved in that deadly shooting may be facing even more trouble. A woman has come forward accusing the officer of extorting her for sex in exchange for keeping her out of jail last year. She just filed a 25 million lawsuit. The city of bridgeton and its Police Department are also named in defendants for allegedly failing to take action. After she reported the harassment. We have calls for comment into the Police Department and have not heard back. Well, your drivers license may not work the next time you try to use it. The image is only visible with a black light. Penndot says its vendors didnt include the image so some places might not accept your i. D. The defective licenses will still work at the airport, though. Penndot says the problem started with licenses issued in november. The department doesnt know how many drivers are affected but it will mail them free replacement licenses. Several workers at philadelphias sugar house casino accuse management of spying on them according to our partners at the Philadelphia Business journal. The workers are starting a union at sugar house and may file a document saying the casino is using surveillance cameras to spy on them. The casino denies the charge. Yesterday cpac heard from the texas senator Ted Cruz Scott Walker and sarah palin along with new jersey governor chris christie. He told the interviewer not to count him out as a possible candidate for president. He has drawn low polling numbers in the United States so far and has not raised as much money as other potential candidates. But christie told the audience at the conference while some of those other candidates may be more popular in washington he has the unique appeal to the voters. And a newspaper article is stirring controversial at the university of delaware that has the schools president and professors squaring off. Earlier this month president Patrick Harper wrote an oped to say, smart students are going online to find innovative less expensive degree paths. Then he went on to say it is too teachercentric. Now unions that represent the professors are pushing back. In a statement to the news journal, they accuse hartger of being dismissive and call his views the front of the mission for education. Board members chose the order for saturdays parade that kicks off at 10 00 in the morning along main street in mantioch. And how about this a huge announcement, Paul Mccartney will headline this years firefly Music Festival in dover, delaware. The event is expected to draw a bigger crowd than ever before. Organizers tell nbc 10 they expect at least 90,000 people to attend. Thats 10,000 more than they had last year. The fourday concert will host more than 100 acts. Tickets go on sale monday. Look at millville, 18 degrees. With no wind Atlantic City is down to 10 degrees this morning. In Delaware County its the low 20s. It is 22 right now in saint davids. A cold start. And yes, very light snow. This is over a large area but it is very light as we saw this live picture in center city. Cumberland county seeing light snowfall. Moving through philadelphia, chester, montgomery and bucks county. Again, it wont last all day as we see the clouds break this afternoon. As more of a northwesterly wind kicks in that is going to bring in colder air for tonight. Its not exactly going to be warm during the day either. Even with sunshine this afternoon, high temperatures today will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Then frigid starts tomorrow morning. Down to 12 degrees in center city. The suburbs will be in the Single Digits to start with. Very light winds, so well see lots of sunshine. The temperature will climb on saturday. And near 40 degrees on sunday afternoon. Looks like sunday evening, a round of wet weather snow and rain listen continue into monday morning. Not all day monday well clear out and warm up to 44 on monday afternoon. Tuesday, later in the afternoon, some snow and rain that changes to all rain. Dont get too excited about that 55 degrees on wednesday. Its going the to be a rainy, chilly 55 degrees. And it will get colder into thursday morning. We could see a combination of the snow and rain to start off thursday. Once again, i will say, focus on the weekend. That includes 76 the vine street expressway and 95. Even looking at the route 35 bypass, we are quiet right now. 95 looks really clear. Route 1 looks great this morning. Yesterday morning route 1 was a mess especially through southern delaware because of all the snow. It was covered for hours yesterday. That is certainly not the case today.
