At one minute after 6 00, some people are trying to get home for the holidays after yesterdays storm. Officials cancelled flights. About 100 cancelled at Philadelphia International. Some passengers were forced to leave today. Others planned it that way. Nbc10s Monique Braxton joins us live at Philadelphia International. So, monique, what are travelers saying this morning . Reporter hi, chris. What a difference a day makes. We ha we have half a dozen flights cancelled going to places like newark, rhode island, maine. Were kind of in a quiet spot right now. When we arrived here about 3 30 this morning dozens of people most told us they were ed hadding to mexico, california, texas, alabama. Warmer places than what they expected to experience here during the thanksgiving holiday. Going to be 68 to 75. I wont know how to act. Im about ready to go to somewhere hot. Where are you going . Jamaica. Reporter and most of the people weve talked to tell us they had actually planned it this way. They knew of the mad rush on the wednesday before thanksgiving which is one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. They decided rather n to deal wh the mad rush, they would book a flight for early thursday morning. Not knowing a noreaster would cause them to have much more company on board than they had expected. Were going to stay here and continue to talk to people throughout the morning about their thanksgiving plans. And also try to find some folks who actually spent the night here. So far, we havent run into anyone who had positive spend the night on some of the hard chairs here at the airport. Live for now at the Philadelphia International airport, Monique Braxton, nbc10 news. 6 03. New from overnight, a Home Invasion has Philadelphia Police looking for a group of robbers. It happened around midnight on Parker Street in roxborough. Police tell us four to five men stormed the house with guns and took 800 and some cell phones. No one was hurt. In the Lehigh Valley, police say a man murdered his stepdaughter who was missing for days. His motive, they say, sexual assault. Authorities say gregory graf confessed to shooting Jessica Padgett at his home and burying the young mother of three. Her car was found about a mile away at dollar general. Police have a theory on how it got there. Graf committed a crime, drove the victims car there then got in his own truck which he had dropped there early in the morning and drove back. In spite of that planning, police are not calling the murder premeditated. But they did say the motive was sexual assault. Ferguson, missouri, is coming off a night of calm in the wake of reaction in the Michael Brown case. Cold rain and snow held down the number of protesters. The few demonstrations that did take place in front of police were peaceful. Violence broke out monday night after that decision not to indict Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown who was unarmed. The philadelphia black clergy is calling for action in the investigation. It wants the federal government to speed up its investigation into possible civil Rights Violations by Ferguson Police by Michael Brown. The clergy also wants december 8th to be a citywide day of conversation regarding police and practices in the africanamerican community. Its also calling for future action against what it calls a natural trend of Police Shooting black men and black on black crime. Meantime, heres this story. Theyre going to put it over here with the others and hopefully make the way into the famous cacia oven. 25 feet deep and can took over 100 turkeys at a time. I asked whats the secret. We got it down to a science. We got the brick oven and the resolving oven. We arrange them according to size. The ones in the roasting pans will stay here. The smaller ones in the aluminum pans will go in the smaller oven. It makes the turkey better, it cooks from the inside out and keeps the turkey moist. Reporter it takes about six hours. But the other thing were concerned about a few slick spots. Leftover moisture. Cold temperatures settle in once again today, staying well below average. State senator Richard Codey is now presenting a bill that would prevent stores from opening before 8 00 p. M. On thanksgiving day.
