Tim yes. Al this shouldnt take long. You wonder how many of the women will be shocked by what they hear. Tim Mykayla Skinner could be shocked and Maggie Nichols will be devastated. A year ago she was definitely on the team. Was the only athlete in the usa that competed all four events in the gold medal runs. Ragan smith with a tremendous future. It will be hard for her, for all of them. But you know what . I think the rationale is strong. Al you know, these young women have been hearing the word rio for four years now. In your world, nastia, the World Championships are great. The nationals are great. You are constantly surrounded by Olympic Rings every day. Nastia absolutely. You live your life to compete at the Olympic Games. No matter how many World Championship medals you have. Like simone biles. To complete the entire thing. She wants multiple gold medals at the Olympic Games. Al are you surprised it took this long . Tim i am a little bit. Al you had it wrapped up. Tim you know, think they also want to show the girls that, you know, this was a hard decision. You know, you cant overstate it. They have worked their entire lives, given everything to the process. It shouldnt be quick. If it is a Selection Committee they should get everything they need. Nastia they had a lot to discuss. Especially with the mistakes going on. There is a lot. You look at the results. Gabby douglas was in 7th place. Shes behind a few of the athletes that probably wont make the team. There is a lot to explain. That goes back to the team. Gabby douglas took it on the team finals and thats where they need her. Al when you heard gabby and aly would try to do this again how much did you do to get to this point . Tim i wasnt certainly wishing them not to do it. I know how hard it is. Its incredibly difficult. I just thought it was going to be too much for them. After all the time off they had. Al parents, waiting. They thought it would be 12 minutes. I wasnt prepared for a half hour talk show here. Tim this is agonizing for all parties. No question about it. I remember my mom talking to me about that process. Going to the olympic trials. It was decided by score back then. She said it was excruciating. Al has anything changed in the process as far as what we are going to see in rio . Taking us to the medals. Starting with qualification. Tim absolutely. You have a fiveperson team. On each individual event the usa will put up four different gymnasts across the four different events. From there they will qualify, most likely in first place into the team finals. That team gets shifted to three up, three count. Al you have been the parent of a gymnast. Your son pete put you in many situations. What dooupg wh you think when y parent and your kid is doing this . Tim i cant even tell you how painful it is. The indecision. Aly raisman said she hes had a stomach ache for a month. Her mom has, too. Al well, the biles are good. Their daughter is going. One last break and we think when we come back, the much anticipated announcement of team usa. Well, gabby said after night one, dont give up on me. They didnt. How emotional is this for you to be able to overcome the struggles to make the team . Its very emotional now. I had a couple of mistakes on day two but they still trusted and believed in me. Im grateful and honored. Im willing to work so hard, put my all into it. You had the guaranteed spot. You won trials. What was it like to be in the room . So emotional. So nerve wracking. Everyone has worked hard. You really dont know. This is very emotional. The less you think the better you compete. When you came out of the room, a lot going on. What do you think . Obviously words cant describe how much it means to me to make a second olympic team. We are trying it on. I was like, gabby, i cant believe we did it. This was our goal. Hopefully we can bring team usa another gold medal together. Were so excited. Congratulations. See you in rio. Al . Al those two get to taste the olympics again. The other three experience the olympics for the very first time. And if youre takie ining septa youll need to double check your schedule. Starting tomorrow the Transit Agency is implementing changes after it had to take 120 trains out of service. Were joined live from the glenside station with more on how the agency is trying to improve your ride to work. Aundrea . Reporter last week we saw the platforms here at the glenside station packed. Inside the train was not much better. While all of these changes does not improve all of the issues, septa hopes it makes your commute to work tomorrow better. Septa has modified its schedule starting first thing monday morning and hopes making your commute much smoother. I get up really early. Were out before 7 00. Reporter the Transit Agency has leased cars from amtrak, the new Jersey Transit and marc to add about 1700 seats spread across the various routes, especially on the high traffic lines. Nbc 10 was at the cornwell heights station, one of three where they were extending the platform to accommodate more train cars. And the schedules are slightly shifted to better estimate ontime arrivals and departures. Riders say theyre welcome changes. This is hard coming home. Reporter especially after last weeks delays. Its crowded. Its hot. People are irritated. You want to go home. Reporter Matthew Mitchell worked to bring those concerns to septa and now has this advice to riders. If you were driving or finding alternate, some kind of other alternate transportation, this may be the time to come back to the train. Reporter the optimism still comes with a warning. Its going to be crowded. But the train will be there. And its better than driving. Reporter septa is encouraging all of its riders to download this app to get realtime information about delays. Paramedics rushed two children to the hospital after they were struck by a car in perkiomen township, montgomery township. Sky 10 on the scene. You can see crews towing away an suv with front end damage. Both children were badly injured in that crash. Police are still investigating what led to that accident. Also new at 11 00, a man has surrendered to police after he allegedly shot and killed a man and then stole the victims car with his baby still inside. 31yearold Hakim Williams is charged with murder, kidnapping and other related weapons offenses. Williams allegedly shot and killed a 24yearold man in penns grove, salem county yesterday and then abandoned the car with the 1yearold inside here at fifth and wood streets in center city. The baby was not hurt. Happening now, the fifth straight night of protests against Police Brutality wrapping up here in philadelphia. Tonights demonstrators shut down center city streets, but now theres a new debate over how to move forward after a week of violence which divided the entire nation. Nbc 10s drew smith is following tonights local protest. Drew, you asked why they chose to keep it going. Reporter yeah, denise, this was a smaller, less tense protest than what we saw last night. Those demonstrators say they wont be silent until they see a change. In west philly, protest leaders made new signs preparing to take to the streets again. They dont get that our lives matter. Reporter they began what would be an hourslong march on market street. We need to keep causing a commotion and yelling and just demanding justice be done. Reporter their persistence angered some people caught in the traffic. Why dont you protest the police that got shot in the face. The five in dallas. That would be nice. Respect our police. Reporter but former Philadelphia Police commissioner Charles Ramsey said on meet the press today, both sides need to back off the extreme rhetoric. We have to keep pushing forward if we want to see the kind of change we need to bring these two sides together. Cant believe how many people showed up here. Reporter from young to old in marion township, people from a variety of backgrounds marched with black live matter signs hoping this indeed can be a better way to understand each other. Its important to have rallies so that the disconnect can end. Reporter and this all may just be a small preview of whats to come when the dnc arrives in a couple of weeks. Former commissioner ramsey expects that to be a challenge, both conventions, and hed be surprised if there wouldnt be an incident during them. But tonight there were no incidents. Authorities say Micah Johnson had been practicing explosive detonations and talked of using ieds during the Police Standoff that polled the shooting. The police chief revealed he scrolled the letters rb in his own blood on the walls of the parking garage where s. W. A. T. Teams corner and later killed him. Investigators are looking through his belongings to figure out what he may have meant by that. In the midst of so much loss today, a story of survival has emerged. A woman and her four sons found themselves caught in the middle of the violence, and they lived to share their story, thanks to heroic actions of police. He said he has a gun, run. And my kids started running. And i started i wanted to make sure that they were all in front of me, so they started running up the block, and i was running behind them, and i felt the bullet. That bullet shattered her leg. All of her sons escaped without injury. President obama will travel to dallas tuesday and deliver remarks at an interfaith memorial service. The president will be joined by Vice President biden, along with former president and mrs. George w. Bush. Today he spoke again about the violence and the confrontations in this country defending the black lives Matter Movement and the police and imploring them to listen to one another. Maintaining a truth fful and serious, respectful tone is going to help mobile iize ameri society to bring about real change. The president said any violence against police is a reprehensible crime. New tonight from our delaware bureau, an arrest in connection to a pair of recent attempted kidnappings in newark, new castle county. Police picked up joseph rudge today. Investigators say ruddge tried to kidnap a 28yearold woman and force her into a car last sunday. And then they say he tried again the next day with a woman in her 60s. Both victims were able to fight him off. Neither was hurt. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf says hell let a roughly 31 billion spending bill become law without his signature, even though lawmakers are struggling to figure out how to pay for some of it. Senate democratic leader jay costa said the move keeps dollars flowing to schools and other important programs. The republican majority leaders have pledged to assemble a 1. 3 billion revenue package to help shore up the states deficient riddled finances. And Governor Wolf said he takes them at their word that that will happen soon. We should all be clear about what that means. Paying for what has been appropriated must be done with sustainable, recurring and sufficient revenues.
