Speech and so far no one has been fired. So meanwhile, trump is doing everything he can to try to put this behind the campaign and move forward, and barring something unexpected, tonight is the night delegates will officially place his name into nomination and then the fight begins, the fight for november against Hillary Clinton, and pennsylvania shaping up to be a key battleground state in this upcoming election and my colleague is down on the floor and shes been spending time with our pennsylvania delegation and talking to them about what trump needs to do to win the keystone state. Lauren . Yeah, jim. You know, as you know, this is a pretty good place to get scoop on the campaign, and today i learned that the Trump Campaign will be opening offices in pennsylvania starting next month. But this week the delegates who are watching all of this unfold here at the convention in person, theyre going to be a key part of really carrying this message back to their states on the ground, and that is why pennsylvania is getting some attention. Senator Jeff Sessions sending this message to pennsylvania delegates. The alabama lawmaker was the first senator to endorse trump, but missing from this room and the rnc, pennsylvanias own senator pat toomey. I caught up with senator sessions to ask about it. Hes not here. Some of your other colleagues are not here. Are you disappointed about that . Theres a lot to be done in the states. Youre running in a big state like pennsylvania, so hell have to make his choices. I didnt go to the Convention Last time when i was running. He wants toomey back in the senate and trump in the white house with pennsylvanias help. Not only just enthusiasm, but a confidence that he was going to carry pennsylvania, and a state like pennsylvania that was not gone republican for a long time. Next to senator sessions thats david irvin, a senior trump adviser focusing on the state other republicans have thought they could flip. It hasnt happened. Why is donald trump different . He appeals to a wide base of individuals, independents, democrats, republicans, cuts a wide swath. He defies party in pennsylvania. Its a movement in pennsylvania. But recent polls show trump struggling with africanamericans, behind with women in pennsylvania. How do you attack those numbers . Whats your strategy . So number one, i think polls right now are extremely early. Its way too early to be polling. Polls probably arent super reliable right now. That being said, mr. Trump is dead even in pennsylvania with tons of ads being up for Hillary Clinton, tons. And we havent gone on the air yet. And here is another sign of the attention pennsylvania is getting. Im told that pennsylvania delegates also got a surprise visit from donald trump, jr. Now, interestingly, tomorrow theyre going to be hearing from someone who is not involved in this convention, not planning to attend. That is Ohio Governor john kasich who lost out to trump in the primaries. Live in cleveland, im lauren make, nbc 10 news. Jim, back to you. All right, lauren. Down below me here and on day two of this convention, only the main players are really making headlines. Want to talk a little bit about how security is going so far. Pretty much so good. The word on security there this morning, police did arrest three people for climbing flagpoles outside the rock and roll hall of fame to hang an antitrump banner. The banner calls for a ban on fracking and for knocking down the proposed wall with mexico. An estimated 300 Police Officers on bikes are in downtown cleveland during this rnc. And speaking of security, we learned today its already impacting the first president ial debate. Wright State University in dayton, ohio, they were supposed to host it. It canceled today citing rising security costs. But late this afternoon Hofstra University in new york agreed to hoths t host the debate that will happen on september 23rd. So a big night coming up right here at the q. This is the night, as we mentioned, that Donald Trumps name is officially placed into nomination. That roll call happens. All the states will send their support to trump following a convention tradition. Trumps home state of new york will officially put him over the top for the nomination. Again, the theme for tonight is make america work again. Its going to focus on the economy and also job creation. Two of trumps children will be speaking, donald trump, jr. And Tiffany Trump as well. Also former president ial hopefuls ben carson, he has a spot tonight, and close confidant new Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has been a big supporter of donald trump. He is heading up his transition team, and we already heard from him as well today. Listen, i think what you will see tonight is somebody who has experience in the courtroom and who knows how to make a case. What is the case to make . I will wait to make the case, but im going to make a case tonight that trump is ready to be president of the United States and that perhaps his opponent is not. But christie not without controversy today. Coming up at 4 30, were going to explain how his words about trump arent sitting well with Hurricane Sandy victims along the jersey shore.
